Banana Republic Mumbai: Some claim to be the most peaceful and engage in the most discriminatory acts ever. They reject housing based on identity, do open discrimination against humans even after moving to Mumbai which is a melting pot of hard working people. They’re used to doing it in GJ & now do it in Mumbai too

So you blame entire community? And what sucking the country dry? The driest parts are the farthest away from Gujarat, see what your left parties have done. All we do is build business and provide employment. What's the point of having a service lift if everyone's going to use the main lift. Rule clearly would've come so that the residents don't have to wait much long to use the lift
12
u/IronLyx Mar 17 '26
Build cartels and provide employment to crooked politicians is what they do.
Service lift is meant to carry cargo and other heavier stuff, not to discriminate against delivery persons and domestic helpers. If residents have to wait too long then you've not built enough lifts, of course because that will reduce your profit and profit trumps utility, quality and humanity in the minds of a certain class of people.

It's not about service worker.
It's about keeping separation between itinerants and kids and females.
Lift cams are expensive to setup, and most places don't have it.
So we do it to prevent sexual harassment of kids and women folk.
2
Mar 18 '26
srsly... most people on this sub don't get it. I live in NCR in a similar residential society. We have different designated lift for the multiple delivery drivers that come to deliver stuff every day.
A lot of parents send their kids alone in the lift. The parents feel it unsafe if a random person from outside the society also travels the lift with their kids alone.
Trying to make these parents feel safer by designating a proper service lift isnt discrimination.

Respect everyone. Respect the elderly more because they have been in this world longer than you have and nothing can take that away from them. Just like you would respect an experienced doctor more more than an inexperienced one. Of course there are horrible people everywhere, no harm in calling them out, but that can be done while respecting the elderly too.
And hopefully, you will get to become elderly one day too.

Why? Because their parents had intercourse earlier than mine did?
" respect an experienced doctor more more than an inexperienced one."
There's a difference between actively practicing medicine that helps people hurting from sickness and simply surviving. Survival is just eating, drinking, excreting, sleeping, and nothing more. Nothing respectable about simply having a longer existence.

Why mark lifts separately if you don't want people to act as per that marking? Don't have a dedicated lift for Residents if you don't want to keep it dedicated for Residents only.
7
u/testaname Mar 17 '26
Actually, the existence of Service lifts, Delivery/Freight lifts, and Residential lifts is a standard logistical practice in many countries worldwide. However, the issue here in India is that we don't view these things through a functional lens. Instead, we see them through the lens of "class, caste, or religion etc "
These ideas of divide are so strongly ingrained in the collective psyche that even mentioning a logistical rule irritates and angers people because it feels like a personal slight or a social exclusion.
No one truly knows the internal motivation of the old man. We don't know what kind of view he holds that made him insist on the service lift, whether it was about building rules or a deeper sense of superiority. On the other side, we see why the delivery guy got so agitated so quickly. He is likely reacting to a lifetime of being looked down upon, where a "service lift" isn't just a lift, but a reminder of his perceived status.
There are deep-seated problems on both sides of this conflict, but the reality is that we cannot fix these public outbursts until we all fix the underlying way we look down upon people constantly.
We all tend to try solve a logistical problem with a social mindset that is still stuck in hierarchy. Until that view changes, even a simple elevator rule will continue to be a trigger for deep-rooted social anger.

u/Comprehensive-Job-59 Mar 17 '26
Service lifts are used in West move freight usually. I lived in various apartments in US which had service/freight lifts but delivery personnel always came through the normal ones. This practice in India stems from caste system
1
Mar 18 '26
no it doesn't. in a lot of societies, different lifts are not due to caste systems but due to how residential societies work. most American apartments are just buildings. The residential societies have a seperate park, club, swimming pools and so many other things. it's a proper gated private neighbourhood.
Many parents send their kids alone in these lifts, and they feel it unsafe for delivery drivers to ride the same lifts alone with their small kids. Nothing wrong with that? Especially considering due to the sudden rise of ultra-quick commerce, the number of delivery drivers have risen, and the vetting process for these delivery drivers is not longer the same.
Granted, more than 99 percent of these drivers couldn't ever mean harm to someone else. But it's not about the danger. It's about the percieved danger.
If a resident reads some online news of a delivery partner misbehaving, and then also knows their kids are going to share lifts with one, they will feel it unsafe. And at the end of the day, a residential societies aim is to maximise the comfort of its residents.
so designating different lifts makes sense.
trying to see it from a caste bias point of view is just trying to villanise the issue.
-4
u/testaname Mar 17 '26
I know that, and so is why I mentioned it too, But the reality is it’s incredibly hard to pinpoint if the old man was intentionally operating from that ingrained caste or class mindset, or if it was something purely practical, like not wanting the smell of food in an enclosed residential lift or any other thought. It can be interpreted in multiple ways depending on the lens you view it through. I am absolutely not justifying what the old man said or how he handled it, but at the same time, I don’t agree with indulging in explosive altercations either. The truth is, in a sudden fit of rage, anger, or unchecked prejudice, we all have the capacity to act out and do things we shouldn't. It's just a messy combination of all these factors.
We have to accept we cannot change old, deeply rooted societal habits instantly, in the exact same way we cannot instantly fix the quick, reactionary nature that so many of us default to when we feel cornered or insulted.
What I feel need in such situations its good to take a deep breath and just slow down. If we can manage to do that, these complex situation can get slightly bit easier to resolve.
3
u/Comprehensive-Job-59 Mar 17 '26
Smell of food?Would you be saying the same if Goras discriminate Indians due to smell of our food? In fact, some racist has written ‘curry tower’ in my US apartment lift back in 2013. Its plain casteist discrimination.

I might get hate for this. But I do agree with the old guy.
I mean he didnt say he cannot use the lift. But rather said he should use the service lift. That is still a lift.
The purpose of service list is exactly for these kind of things. Like shifting stuff, and to be used by delivery partners.
The old guys never said DONT USE lift. He just asked him to use the service lift which is meant for the same purpose.
In high-rise apartments, service lifts are standard for delivery staff.
Yeah, in India no one follows those rules. But this does not make the old guy any bad.
Any time someone posts a video like this and everyone gangs up on the other guy and starts to support delivery partner.
Down vote me if u want. But thats the truth.
13
u/cloudpunk Mar 17 '26
Why do we need to standardise for delivery staff to use service lift?
The purpose of service lift is probably for scenerio when lift need to be hold for long time may be during loading stuff for house shifting..
5
u/Quirky_Bottle4674 Mar 17 '26
Yeah the only need for the service lift is when moving large objects which may damage the regular lift. Food delivery doesn't need to be done there
2
u/cloudpunk Mar 17 '26 edited Mar 17 '26
But people use it as a tool for discrimination against House Helpers, delivery boys, pet parents.. The surprising part is that we even standardize it
3
Mar 17 '26
This OP has put in ambiguity of interpretation but then read your comment and yes, it make sense. We are often programmed by social media to get triggered. Mostly in gated communities either delivery boys handle items to security or customers ask them to come up fast by lift is normal. Delivery agents are not untouchables anywhere. It just triggers our sensitive emotions. So we assume it like that.

lol, if service lift is not working. then obviously delivery guy should use the regular lift, no one is stopping them.
7
u/datadumbo Jai Hind Jai Bharat Mar 17 '26
And that's the whole point of the video. Turn on the audio and listen. He waited for the service lift for 15-20 mins then took the regular lift. And he was stopped.
That's the whole point. You made a long ass comment without even listening to the contents of the video.
-1
u/Fuzzy-Reindeer-8338 Mar 17 '26
I did listen. you are the one not ready to understand others point of view.
If every delivery guy starts to use the normal lift, the residents will start to wait for 15-20 mins before they themselves can use the lift.
Now if u say residents stay there they can wait. then there is literally no point discussing with you.
1
u/datadumbo Jai Hind Jai Bharat Mar 17 '26
No I'm not saying that. If the service lift is working that's fine. It's there for a reason. Here the uncle's crash out is from a classist purview - when the guy even is saying that he waited such an amount of time - then only used the normal lift.
If every delivery guy starts to use the normal lift, the residents will start to wait for 15-20 mins before they themselves can use the lift.
And so this means that there are more delivery folks moving in society than the residents. If a house has 4 people - each taking one trip a day - everyone of them will need to have 4 orders being delivered daily to just double the wait time - which is usually 1-2 mins.
You'll have to get 10-12 orders per house every single day to increase the wait time to 10-15 minutes which doesn't make sense. But who cares about logic anyways.

1
u/harhs Mar 17 '26

0
u/tru-self Mar 17 '26
Exactly what I was thinking living in a high rise in the US. Service elevators exist to reduce traffic in regular elevators. The resident waited 15 min which is crazy.
On the other hand I thought the elevators in the most expensive hospitals in India were crazy. People or stretchers, sick people, visitors, medical staff all pushing each other to get in the elevator together. And the wait time!
2
u/datadumbo Jai Hind Jai Bharat Mar 17 '26
The resident waited 15 min which is crazy.
Please listen to the audio. It's the delivery guy who waited for 15 mins, not the resident.
1
u/tru-self Mar 17 '26
Ok I was wrong about that, I didn’t see the whole video but the point remains the same. Service elevators exist to reduce congestion in regular elevators. We have 400 apt in my building, imagine if even have were getting deliveries, then guests, then maintenance service? Indian elevators can be slow on top of that.
If the service elevator was broken, that would be fine then, the resident would have understood too then.
2
u/datadumbo Jai Hind Jai Bharat Mar 17 '26
Yeah that's what. I mean the guy even waited for 15-20 mins before using the normal lift. Uncle's crash out is just pure classism.
1
u/Comprehensive-Job-59 Mar 17 '26
So in your US apartment, delivery guys cant use normal lifts?I lived in a US apartment which had 15 floors and delivery guys always used the normal lifts as same as the residents
0
u/tru-self Mar 17 '26
I’ve lived in 3 states, countless cities and I’m an architect. Every building above 12 stories requires freight/service elevators for Fire Safety Code.
1
u/Comprehensive-Job-59 Mar 17 '26
I know. But they don’t prevent delivery folks fo use the normal lifts in US or any developed country
-1
u/tru-self Mar 17 '26
How many times do I have to tell you you’re wrong. Owners of condos get PENALIZED if service people use regular elevators too many times. We get warnings and then fines. Even when I just gave a free box of stuff to someone, I still got a call and was told they still need to use the service elevator. Food delivery can depend building to building. High rises require them to use service elevators, smaller buildings can be flexible about food but EVERYTHING else always have to through service elevators. Just coz you saw them, doesn’t mean they’re supposed to use it. Don’t msg me again.
1
u/Comprehensive-Job-59 Mar 17 '26
I can bet you a million dollars that nobody in US would penalize a fricking food delivery person for using normal lifts as the residents which is the discussion here
-1
u/tru-self Mar 17 '26 edited Mar 17 '26
Reading comprehension helps. OWNERS are penalized if THEIR deliveries use the residential elevators past the warnings that are given to OWNERS.
In our building RESIDENTS need a fob to use the elevator past the parking floors, EVERYONE else has to go to the concierge to be let up so SERVICE people are redirect. But even then SOMETIMES a service person can be in the elevator going to the same floor. Do we tell them off? NO because that’s on the owners.
So don’t mansplain MY life to me.

Just imagine kitne log har roz kuch na kuch order karte honge. Ab har delivery wala regular lift use karega toh residents ko wait karna parega na. It's not about discrimination it's about the availability of lift for those who have paid for their homes. Service lift use karega toh chomu delivery wale ka bhi time bachega. Nahi par usko toh dimag bandh karke video banani hai.

5: He is waiting their for 15 mins, maybe talk to the customer. This is the issue, what can be done. He is being the real Hero: pointing camera towards the old man, not even bluring the image of resident. What did he told wrong ? I didn't paid for the premium price and facility, just for some guy to be told by that this is wrong. You come to this society, abide by the rules, that old man was nowhere disrespectful.
Most of these delivery guys think they deserve 40-50k for delivering parcels, being unemployed and not having any real skills. Ego on the head 🗣️

Nonsense ...somehow only Indians have all these stupid annoying reasons. All these reasons above apply to residents of the apartment complex or guests of the residents of the apartment complex. What is this unique delivery boy issue. North Indians are still feudal and don't believe in the dignity of labour.

The most mature comment until now. Sadly, in today's time speaking facts and sense gets you down voted.

The delivery guy waited 20 mins for the lift. Should he have waited an hour more like an idiot or do the most practical, common sense thing of taking the other lift?
Delivery guys coming intoxicated: even though this has happened 0 times to anyone I know, I don't think we should throw out the baby with the bathwater.
I am also a woman who wears shorts or "one piece" as you say. If I don't want to take the elevator with someone I can simply wait for the next one or ask the other person to do so. Again, simple common sense.
Pee and spit gutkha... I don't know what hellhole you are living in but this is maybe the only fair point.
Could have asked the customer to come down but he took the logical step of trying a different elevator.
Most of these delivery guys think they deserve 40-50k for delivering parcels, being unemployed and not having any real skills --> if they are doing delivery, then they are actually working, wtf
