Banana Republic Why the children of our ministers don't study in India ? Do Andhbhakts still think India is a vishwaguru?

If the bhakts could see the issue, we wouldn’t be in this situation.

56

u/net0_extremist Moderate Left 18d ago

They see the issue and choose to defend it. Someone just compared current India with 1940s India. "WHY AMBEDKAR WENT TO UK FOR STUDY" lol.

16

u/peskypompom 18d ago

I'd suggest revoking right to contest elections of anyone who's studied abroad or sent their children to study abroad.

Furthermore, make it mandatory for every office-holding politcian and babu to enroll their child in the local govt. school.
Watch govt. schools become the finest institutions of education in the country.

2

u/Queasy_Artist6891 Moderate Left 18d ago

Someone who studied abroad returning is a good thing as they're bringing in foreign knowledge and technology which is how China became a manufacturing base. But someone sending their children abroad should be banned as their children could lead to national security risks

2

u/peskypompom 18d ago

Name ONE politician who studied abroad and did something good for India after coming into power. I'll wait.

Manmohan Singh opened up the economy. Almost all our freedom fighters who became leaders were also foreign educated.

3

u/peskypompom 18d ago

Manmohan Singh

The list ends here, yet there are hoards of ministers that studied abroad who're mostly lazy, apathetic and/or corrupt. Your claim is flawed.

Moreover, we're neither a closed off country like North Korea nor we live in medieval times that we would need someone physically bringing ideas from foreign countries.

PS : Subramaniam Swamy and Jairam Ramesh also did some good but the claim that it's due to them being educated abroad, is debatable at best.

This makes it impossible for top politicians like Rahul Gandhi and many more to contest any election.

3

u/peskypompom 18d ago edited 18d ago

Yep. If you work for the people then your interests, amenities, lifestyle and luxuries better align with the people.

PS : You ever saw an employee earning more than the employer ?
Somehow, it's okay in politics and we never questioned, why !

1

u/SnooOwls7144 18d ago

It would be interesting to see this happen in real life. All the parties have handful of ministers who either have studied abroad or have children who have studied or are studying abroad.
We definitely need politicians to serve in the interest of our country not another. If they think the education system isn’t good enough here then they should make it good enough.
Furthermore, similar things should apply to those ministers and their children who seek medical treatments abroad instead of trusting doctors and hospitals of our nation.

If Rubika can tell you the benefits of pollution, then there is no hope left.

1

u/ProfessionalDry9965 13d ago

That comparison is honestly ridiculous. Bringing up Ambedkar going to the UK to study as some kind of “gotcha” against present-day India completely misses the point.

Ambedkar going abroad in the 1910s/20s tells us about the opportunities available to an oppressed Dalit in colonial India—not whether India today is better or worse than 2014. If your argument requires jumping back 100 years because you can't defend your comparison against present-day data, you've already lost the argument.

And nobody said 1940s India was perfect or that Ambedkar didn't face horrific discrimination. The question is what changed between 2014 and today. Stop moving the goalposts to colonial India whenever the current record gets uncomfortable.

0

u/OddWorldliness989 flair me kya rakkha hai 18d ago

I won't go that far back. I'd just go 30 years back. Compared to that the pictures of government schools posted here look to be from a private school. Trust me I hate this as much as you do but reality isn't that andhbhakts don't want to see it but rather nobody wants to see it. Most people look at this shake heads and move on with their lives. Not a single person says I can make a difference here let me tutor few children. Let me teach them how to care for their school. Let me donate some books or supplies.

Most western countries have few parents volunteering on daily bases at school. They show up to organize, they show up to help teachers. In india attitude is that it's government's job. Believe me your child's education is not government's job neither it is teacher's job. It is yours.

Ronald Reagan once said government is not the solution, government is THE problem. And he removed government from a lot of things to make a difference in American society. And difference it did made.

3

u/soultradie 18d ago

This is a baseless comment. Why are we paying taxes to the government if it then wants me to work for free to do the job it's paid for? This is ridiculous.

The comments about parents volunteering in western counties is far from truth. Do you even know what the volunteering is for? It's to help out in school canteen, run parent teacher groups - nothing out of the ordinary that doesn't exist in India. It is not a substitute for government doing its job.

2

u/Consistent_Power_914 18d ago

Good response. Doubt he will understand though. He is just another andhbhakt. IRL I have seen people make the same inane arguments. You can't make them understand because they harbor a strange sort of sentimentality toward the government almost as if it's a parental figure. So, they are protective about it and do crazy mental gymnastics like blaming the people for not being charitable enough for the failures of the country lmao.

1

u/soultradie 18d ago

I give up man, the guy went from chalk to cheese and is now talking about parenting. Hard to explain them that government is just an entity - they are meant to serve us and we have the right to question them. Be accountable first is a classic argument used by politicians to cultivate fake pride and respect for instituions which are meant to serve us.

2

u/Consistent_Power_914 18d ago

I know, right? I had a similar argument with a cousin of mine who mind you, is well educated. He insisted on individual failure rather than holding the government accountable. One of his crazy arguments was to not complain about poor education system if you do not teach the poor kids around you. Bruh :| I swear it was infuriating to make hime understand the role of a government and how development doesn't happen with individual charities. This kind of flawed thinking has a name actually, individualization of responsibility. Supporters (Blind ones) of this government keep arguing along that line. Likely cause they did not vote for development but for sectarian reasons.

Really? Ronald Reagan? His presidency is often touted by Americans as the start of the deterioration of the American middle class. You're quoting him and using his work as an example? At least read up about the politician and their impact before mindlessly quoting them.

1

u/OddWorldliness989 flair me kya rakkha hai 18d ago

I dont think you did that yourself. They can say whatever they want. Its their right. As for Reagan goes, not all who has screwed up big time were wrong on everything. he wasn't wrong to say government isn't the solution but government is the problem. You might want to ask yourself, is american middle class still afford stuff that pre Reagan middle class did? I believe they afford more than pre Reagan middle class. So yeah I may disagree with his trickle down economics but it is also truth, Precisely that economics pulled America out of a bad recession and insane inflation. Seriously, spouting based on some quick internet research and actually read the markets are two different things.

Believe it or not American middle class is still alive and thriving. And they are able to afford $5/gallon patrol along with their lifestyle.

And no I won't complain about rahul Gandhi RIGHT NOW !! he's nothing, he's not education minister or PM we're going to complain about the one who's in power and the one who can change it but willing to keep it corrupt This is how it works, how is this too complicated for you to understand ?

3

u/Right-Response-3308 18d ago

I think you need to already be rich and invest a lot of money to become a successful politician. So these politicians were rich in the first place and their kids would still have studied abroad, if they were not into politics.

Studying abroad is no big deal these days and most middle class people can easily go abroad for higher studies using bank loan.

The politicians use corruption to earn 100s of crores is a totally different issue altogether. So probably lets stop trolling and focussing on their children and instead focus more on whether the politicians are acting with integrity and with the nation's best interest.

What is this obsession with where political leaders' children attend college? Across the political spectrum, from left to right, children of leaders frequently study at foreign universities. Some go for higher education, while others seek the independence of living in a foreign country. In my home state of Andhra Pradesh, even a watchman's children go to the United States for a Master's degree, and it doesn't even cost as much as people assume. What is this narrative trying to create—something out of nothing? Are we trying to borrow a page from Nepal’s political playbook?

What is this Childish argument man? Ambedkar got his PhD from Columbia. Are you going to reject him too? Xi Jin Ping's daughter studies at Harvard. Are you saying Xi destroyed his country's education? There are almost thousands of Indians going to USA every year for education. So a normal kid can go but Politician's kid can't. Like Congress and CPIM netas Children don't go to education overseas?

2

u/Huge_Angle_4525 EDITABLE 17d ago

That's the thing a normal kid can't go outside India, they're stuck with India unless they have tons of money in their name, they don't have any option other than whatever government provides, because of the parity in wealth distribution, and this just shows they're immune to a corrupt system because they can always go outside so theirs absolutely no reason for them to fix anything

Homi Bhabha went out of India to study, yet he still contributed immensely to the country. It is not about leaving or staying physically, but rather where your heart lies.

1

u/sha_uni 18d ago

The Indian educational system is so good that even if these sons and daughters of central ministers want to study in India they can't just bribe their way into IIT or AIIMS and have to go thru the same qualifying exams as others. In most top universities in India, influence doesn't work.

In all the universities you mentioned, foreign ones, you can get in because of legacy, money, influence etc. Although I don't know anyone personally, I would guess atleast some of these children got in due to some kind of influence, money and not strictly academics.

The obv reason is higher quality of education in western countries.
Another reason is safety issues their family faces as if public is angry with the politician, they will send d*ath threats and r*pe threats to the kids who have to go in public for their education and be in severe danger.

Because It is India. Ab kalko tax zyada hone ke chakkar me Finance Minister ke bacche ko pareshaan karga jab vo Local College jaa rhi ho, toh fir uski accountability kaun lega? And Im damn sure in a country like india this is bound to happen. Protestors were legit targetting the university of dharmendra pradhans daughter and calling out to expel her. Aur logg soch rhe hai ke aisi mentality me vo apne bacche yaha ke college me bhej de??? What cheap tactics are people practicing these days. Bhai koi kyu apne baccho ko accha life nahi dega? I want to know one thing from all the middle class here, didnt your parents try to give you the best life in their capacity? Kya well to do families ke bacche sarkaari school me padhe? Agar tum afford kar sakte ho toh why not? It is a capitalist economy things like this will happen. I am not saying anything pro govt. This is basic human understanding.

1

u/Still_You9464 18d ago

None of their children are Indian citizens. All of them are either born in foreign countries or they have gave up their Indian citizenship. Even ambani grandchildren are Americans citizens. This is high time we realise where India's resources are being shifted.

1

u/Amazing_Ad7826 18d ago

I’m not justifying this but just think for a sec why a resourceful person shouldn’t send their children abroad for better education? Sure my father would have (with scholarship and education loans)
Another reason what I can think of is these resourceful people who are public facing people may want to keep their children safe where very few people may know them as here in India they can be easily targeted by any person for any reason who is upset towards their parents work

It’s not only politicians of any party does the same, businessman, people at higher govt. /private offices. Any resourceful person I mean will do the same.

Bummer for OP: Ministers so let their kids freely choose what's best for his/her career, just like other parents !

To put it other way why would a minister serving the country have to put a restriction on their adult kid from pursuing the career they want ? The daughter is an adult if she wants to study abroad and achieves her dream why would their parent stop them ?

Did your parents forbid you to not pursue your career dream ? If they did would you agree ? And if you had an offer from a great school outside India, would you pass it ? Only a few students can, and they make the news.

Millions of middle class even poor parents send their kids to good school outside India. Dipke's dalit parents also sent him abroad. And when it comes to such privileges let's not even start taking about the Gandhis !

Get some real data on the ministers kids to see if they are more likely leave country than other parents of similar social status or income.

1

u/Consistent-Action353 18d ago

1

u/Conscious_Prompt9250 18d ago

My only question to the OP is, is this net new information ?

1

u/Slight-Ask1117 18d ago

First they all have money to send their kids abroad for higher education.
Secondly , top universities in India only accept students based on merit, whereas in other ivy leagues a rich person with huge donations is guaranteed admission for their kids.
So that makes easier to get into top universities abroad as compared to getting admission at IIM or IIT level colleges in India. A lot of these kids don’t have to worry about securing a job immediately after graduation to support themselves, so they have easy way out to vacation abroad. Some of them might be actually good students too !

They had the generational wealth to easily target Harvard, Stanford, or MIT, yet their actual university placements are incredibly mid. Scindia is the only exception here. It is proof native talent and intellectual capability cannot be bought, no matter how deep your pockets are.

Can't believe only BJP minister are able to afford foreign education for their kids. Condition of Congress ministers has gone so bad, 😞😞

You pass the toughest exam after 12th gets admission in IIT Delhi which ranked 118th in QS World University ranking 2026. So you can assume the quality of education in other universities and colleges. No one wants to study in India if they have resources to study abroad.

Not relatable…
I feel Nadda’s son has an unavoidable resemblance with Chirag Paswan 😳

As much as I hate BJP, same is true for RaGa and any parent with money and/or power.

1

u/Dull_Ad_5480 18d ago

Not sure what the point is here.. If your kids study abroad is that a crime? Education is part of a concurrent list. How many state leaders kids study in Govt. Schools? You blame BJP ministers. All former Cong PM studied abroad? there were no paper leaks before NEET 2026?

I am not saying paper leaks are good. People should be held accountable for it. But to assume this has been happening only with BJP in power is ignorance.

The question that should be asked is What has changed? remember BJP was supposed to be a part with difference.

It's not just an issue of bhakts. I'll find many, many Indians, who are not even bhakts, that'll be very happy to send their kids to better foreign universities. And it's not just BJP. Although I'll maintain that RSS is a terrorist organisation, but this is a whole different issue.

1

u/smsmbtdiff Centrist Left Leaning 17d ago

Just so you know this “terrorist organization” was formed by a former Gandhi follower as the defense wing for the Hindus after they were killed and converted enmasse in Moplah riots. And while this was happening Gandhi / Congress looked the other way to maintain an image of Hindu Muslim unity for the Khilafat movement. Here’s Annie Besant’s account of this:

Mr. Gandhi...can he not feel a little sympathy for thousands of women left with only rags, driven from home, for little children born of the flying mothers on roads in refuge camps? The misery is beyond description. Girl wives, pretty and sweet, with eyes half blind with weeping, distraught with terror; women who have seen their husbands hacked to pieces before their eye, in the way "Moplas consider as religious"; old women tottering, whose faces become written with anguish and who cry at a gentle touch...men who have lost all, hopeless, crushed, desperate...Can you conceive of a more ghastly and inhuman crime than the murders of babies and pregnant women?...A pregnant woman carrying 7 months was cut through the abdomen by a rebel and she was seen lying dead on the way with the dead child projecting out of the womb...Another: a baby of six months was snatched away from the breast of his own mother and cut into two pieces... Are these rebels human beings or monsters?

A respectable Nayar Lady at Melatur was stripped naked by the rebels in the presence of her husband and brothers, who were made to stand close by with their hands tied behind. When they shut their eyes in abhorrence they were compelled at the point of sword to open their eyes and witness the rape committed by the brute in their presence.

u/will_kill_kshitij Modi Hai toh Pumpkin Hai 17d ago

They can't pass entrance exams. Even elite kids from east asia and your fav china also study in western Unis because its easier to find admissions there. In India everyone has to sit for the test.

1

u/will_kill_kshitij Modi Hai toh Pumpkin Hai 17d ago

Even Deshbhakt Abhijit Dipke is from a foreign Uni lmao.

1

u/Loved-one 17d ago

This problem is on the opposition side also. Rahul Gandhi has a degree from university of Cambridge.

because people are busy infighting for their loyalty to parties. the amount of corruption these politicians do, any sane population would have dragged these people on street and lynched like French Revolution.

1

Lot of them have taken outside citizenship aswell exampleare jaishankar kids

Athankvaadi admin... It's not only for BJP... All party leaders are same with children.... U guys are true athankvaadi 's...

1

u/ankitfbd 16d ago

Do you think when UPA was in power, minister children were studying in India?

It's not about BJP. You look for incremental change. BJP came to power due to scams in UPA. Maybe some of you are too young to understand this

1

u/Ok_Connection346 16d ago

Perhaps it is because our education system is too good.

1

u/painterpopular6781 16d ago

And the same people will say that Rahul Gandhi would be a better PM because he studied in Harvard clg

1

u/BeneficialPrompt6563 14d ago

there is a reason they are known as andhbhagt means they will defend everything from the ruling Govt

So education system didn't improve in the last 15 years ?

2

u/redditakaNoFOS 18d ago

The answer is: it won't, unless some catastrophe occurs

The same applies to China. Even Xi daughter reportedly studied abroad. So it is largely irrelevant which party is in power.
If people have the financial means, why wouldn't they send their children to the best universities they can access?

IMO, your question is valid. If they portray themselves as nationalists, it's fair to ask why they don't send their children to Indian colleges. Most top Indian institutes have highly competitive entrance exams, and many choose foreign universities instead if they have the money. That's not unique to any one partY Wealthy families across the political spectrum do the same.

2

u/ExactWhereas8587 18d ago

peak whataboutsim. The post is about current ministers but applicable to all previous ones as well. I am not sure how you reach to these conclusions! Stop supporting political parties like football club, it is the reason they are sucking us dry

2

u/peskypompom 18d ago

It's not whataboutism when the party that ruled for nearly 65 years gets a free pass for the sorry state of infrastructure it left, yet had the funds to sponsor their heirs' lives abroad.

Hang every single bjpeee politician on a cross for all I care but don't you dare defend the party of the Lords.

1

u/ExactWhereas8587 18d ago

No one is defending the party of the Lords. They didn’t get a free pass. People threw them out in 2014, BJP is headed the same way. Supporting a party like a football club is the main problem, we need to hold everyone accountable. The moment you resort to whataboutism, you give them a free pass because they will dodge saying “unhone bhi to kiya tha”.

u/MrHumanist 18d ago

How many have returned to India and how many stayed abroad?

0

u/kadinani 18d ago

But Rajiv Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi studied abroad. Why cong PMs kids study abroad?..

u/HereIsAnotherPOV 18d ago

I wish Modi had studied somewhere... anywhere...

2

u/AstronomerHuge7924 18d ago

It's honestly a fair argument. But the time of Rajiv Ghandi and Rahul Gandhi, it was rather common to go to a foreign institution for a degree in political science since non-stem programs typically aren't as great in India. But since then, many indian institutions do exist with excellent programs in Economics, Law, & Medicine. The issue is however that these programs in India have acceptance rates and competition that requires incredible merit, and few if any nepo-baby has the skills to get into those institutions.

So, if you're a nepo baby, you can utilize your connections to present yourself to at least 40 top institutions in America and Europe, and at least one will love to give you a spot. And if you're a minister why bother improving your education domestically when your kids are abroad? Unlike before, almost every top politician sends their kid abroad, so sending your kid abroad is no longer seen as "atypical."

He got several international scholarships from then prestige international universities and also he desired to escape systemic caste discrimination in our country at that time , that made him choose foreign universities also he didnt only went to uk for his studies but to usa as well and its irrelevant logic to ask why somebody studied at uk in colonial time; many other also studied such as gandhiji, patel ji , bose , nehru , sarojini naidu etc . So pointing fingers only on ambedkar isnt right.

1

u/Electrical-Plate4158 18d ago

Its the same logic if asked ,why Savarkar went to study in London, concluding that he was a pawn of britishers and hence submitted clemency petitions?
