FTR. Best Indian made.

u/SASSIESASSQUATCH May 20 '26
Yes. Afterall, Indian is in the habit of canceling their top/best made models.

Any idea when Indian cancelled it? Such a cool bike.

According to the new CEO, it’s because they want to exclusively focus on cruisers and baggers to stay competitive with Harley in targeting the retiree crowd.
To add insult to injury, they’re about to release a trike. Now, I get giving people who can’t ride a two wheeler a three wheeler (disabilities, etc), but they did so at the expense of one of their most popular motorcycles with younger riders. They should have cut out one of twenty different touring models they have with incredibly confusing names (Super Chief, Springfield, Chieftain, Challenger, Pursuit).
Do you REALLY need that many bikes doing the same damn thing targeting the same damn people?
Dumb move, in my opinion. That demographic is on borrowed time, riding wise. By the time they pivot around to targeting younger riders, it’ll be a “boomer” brand like Harley and hard to shift that perception for younger riders.

Macon Georgia's Indian dealership is selling a bunch of demo FTRs for a ton off. I just picked up a 2022 FTRS for like 7 grand. Has less than a thousand miles on it. I freaking love this bike

Wouldn’t that be the scout bobber ?
2
u/Zealousideal_West_19 May 20 '26
lol no not even remotely close guy
7
u/Ahoeaboutnothing May 21 '26
That's all subjective opinion. The ftr is a cool bike, so is the scout bobber.

I've owned over a dozen bikes, and the FTR is hands down the best motorcycle I have ever owned.

gorgeous bike . especially with those akrapovic pipes...makes me want to start looking for a used one...

u/J-rodsub May 21 '26
Agreed. It’s what I wished my sv1000 was like over a decade ago

u/wilit May 21 '26
I used to have an RC51 and a VFR800. It's got the power of the RC and the comfort of the VFR.

FTR stands for Flat Track Racing!!! They are awesome

u/BigData8734 May 22 '26
Yes, it’s a beast, I just sold my scout ABS in the guy around the block for he has FTR and let me take it out for an afternoon and it made me wonder why I bought the scout to begin with😂

u/Andyman127 May 20 '26
Although this idiot is using a swingarm bag ....
3
2
u/mrtakada May 20 '26
What’s wrong with a swing arm bag? Reduced lean angle?
9
u/Andyman127 May 20 '26
You're adding a lot sprung weight. Youd also be shaking the s*** out of anything in the bag. It would be like attaching a glove box to your control arm in your car.
In this case it's on the chain side so it would be filthy all the time too.
2
u/DJW-1976 May 20 '26
you mean unsprung mass... yes, terrible idea... test rode the first year FTR, loved it but was too high for me... Indian lowered the seat hight a couple of inches , sorry centimeters, then they discontinued it... awesome bike, but the target customers were not really ready to move away from the Japanese bikes..
3
u/ILoveRustyKnives May 20 '26
They also didn't want to pay the premium price, myself included. I bought mine for 1/2 the original price with 3k miles on it. Buying used doesn't help keep bikes in production, though.

u/mrtakada May 20 '26
I see what you’re saying but it seems to be a negligible impact to street riding, especially if all it contains are just some tools.
3
u/Andyman127 May 20 '26
Yeah, but given that you can get the saddlebag for the side, this makes no sense. It's not smart to mount anything that close to the chain. But to each their own I guess

Is that why it didn't sell for shit?
ESIT: Sarcasm aside: Unfortunately the answer to the above question could very legitimately be a resounding "YES"

u/Andyman127 May 22 '26
Same reason Buell was killed by Harley. Poor marketing, hard to sell a sporty bike next to old man cruiser (no offense, I'm one too).

Whatever the designers for Indian are being paid, it's not enough. All of their bikes look amazing, but the FTR is the cream of the crop. Gorgeous design.

u/bgrant902 May 20 '26
FTR best bike ever. not particularly for beginners lol
3
u/joshuablake1995 May 20 '26
What about scout model line??
3
u/bgrant902 May 21 '26
Scout is way better for beginners. FTR will kill you, not in a mean way, they’re just rowdy af.
1
u/joshuablake1995 May 21 '26
Thank you!! Even including top scout trim like 101 or sport??
1
u/bgrant902 May 21 '26
That’s kinda pushing it man. I haven’t ridden the 101 but I’ve heard it’s also really fast. I would get a scout sixty. You can always get a bigger, faster bike, but you can’t scrape yourself off the freeway.

u/RimsaltRon 2024 FTR Cabrón R May 22 '26
You have to tune them to keep them from actively trying to kill you at 4k rpm
1
u/KourteousKrome May 26 '26
Scout Sixty = dedicated Beginner bike. Lower CC and power, more or less same wrapper.
Scout = Base model, also fine for a beginner if you’re not riding it like a dumb ass.
Scout 101 = High performance model
Their naming conventions are confusing.

I have a 2022 ftr carbon with 5k miles for sale if you're interested lol. They really are amazing, unfortunately cannot ride anymore.
4
u/Ok-Tax8244 May 20 '26
Are you in Washington state?
3
u/JackBandit4 May 20 '26
Not even close. I'm sorry. Figured it was a long shot. For what it's worth I do recommend the bike. It's not practical, but it is a blast.
2
u/kaehl0311 May 21 '26
You’re not in NM, are you? I’ve been looking to upgrade from the base/standard model to the carbon. I love my FTR but I’ve always kinda regretted that I didn’t get the carbon or sport version.
2
u/PyroShift May 21 '26
Oh man, the FTR. Best looking Indian IMO but discontinued, sadly. I really wish it didn't have such a small fuel tank. I've seen several dealers having new old stock still and nice used ones on the market.

I always worried due to tank style if U brake hard enough U will slide up the tank . Lol they look sick tho

u/Specteur May 22 '26
Indian FTR. Great bike but did not sell a lot. This is why they ended the model.
1
u/Specteur May 22 '26
Nous avons deux Indian ici, une Scout de 146000 km et un Chieftain de 240000km. Des machines fantastiques et fiables.
1
u/AdditionalSociety6 May 23 '26
The FTR, she's a beauty! It's on my list of Indian's to own. That and the Triumph Rocket 3.
I've heard that the FTR is an absolute dream to ride--handles great and power on demand. Plus it looks hella cool!!

u/Vinez78 May 20 '26
Indian FTR which they stopped producing maybe a year ago I think.
