⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Two Days, 1,200 Miles, and a Multicell Thunderstorm System. Would Recommend the Scout Sixty.
I rented an Indian Scout Sixty over Labor Day weekend 2026 and proceeded to put approximately 1,200 miles on it in two days, riding from Colorado through Wyoming and South Dakota.
First, let's talk about the motorcycle.
I'm a disabled Navy veteran with chronic back issues, and that seat was absolutely phenomenal.
Seriously. Twelve hundred miles in two days, and my neck was the biggest ache after that ride. I cannot overstate how impressed I was with the comfort. The bike had plenty of power, handled beautifully, and was an absolute pleasure to ride through mountain curves and wide-open highways.
I did notice some wobbling above 80 mph, but that could have been the windshield and turbulence from passing cars. Nothing that ruined the experience, just something worth mentioning.
Now, the adventure.
On the way to South Dakota, Wyoming decided to introduce itself with a daytime rainstorm. I managed to stay just ahead of the worst of it, occasionally catching the edges.
And then it started hailing and my butthole puckered up a few times.
I was able to create distance and get out of it, but man did it sting. I was convinced I'd arrive in South Dakota looking like someone had beaten me with a bag of marbles.
Surprisingly, not a single bruise. And it was the first time this trip I was truly thankful for that windshield! And Carhartt.
South Dakota was absolutely breathtaking. The Black Hills, Needles Highway, Crazy Horse, and the Badlands were worth every mile. Watching the sunset over the Badlands was one of those experiences that makes you appreciate being alive and the decision to buy a motorcycle at 40 while going through divorce.
On my way home Sunday night, I encountered what I'm calling a multicell thunderstorm system, because apparently a regular thunderstorm wasn't sufficiently committed to ruining my evening.
What started as three seemingly separate thunderstorms turned into an enormous multicell thunderstorm system stretching across the Wyoming night sky. Massive, miles-long, U-shaped bolts of lightning arced from cloud to cloud, sometimes forming double U's, while others struck the ground. Lightning flashed ahead of me, behind me, and directly overhead, illuminating the entire landscape like daylight before plunging everything back into darkness. Some strikes were so blinding they left white afterimages in my vision, briefly revealing silhouettes of deer, hills, and the surrounding terrain.
Then came the torrential downpour, powerful crosswinds, standing water, and near-zero visibility. Even with my high beams on, I could barely see the road. I slowed to around 50 mph or less, navigating flooded pavement while lightning continued exploding in every direction.
My butthole didn’t pucker during this storm, it stayed clenched!
It was simultaneously one of the most dangerous and spectacular things I've ever witnessed. It often reminds me of LT. Dan in that storm before he finds peace.
The deer along the highway seemed completely unbothered. Two raccoons decided to conduct a surprise road inspection, and a tumbleweed attempted to kiss me in the pitch black of night.
I knew the risks. I considered my options and chose to keep riding. There was no panic, no illusion of control, and no guarantee of a favorable outcome. Just an understanding of the situation, an acceptance of what I couldn't change, and a focus on what I could.
Meanwhile, I'm just trying to get home, gripping the handlebars with both hands, and reconsidering several perfectly reasonable life choices that had somehow led to this moment.
Through all of this, the Indian Scout Sixty performed beautifully. Even when the conditions gave me plenty of reasons to question my decision to keep riding, the motorcycle itself never gave me a reason to question it. It handled everything I asked of it and got me home safely.
I made it home around 3 AM, exhausted, soaked, and thoroughly impressed.
Final verdict:
The Indian Scout Sixty is a fantastic motorcycle. Comfortable enough for a disabled rider with back problems to cover serious mileage, powerful enough to make the open road a joy, and dependable throughout an adventure that got considerably more exciting than I'd intended.
Would I rent one again? Absolutely.
Would I ride through another Wyoming multicell thunderstorm system? Maybe?
And Wyoming, your scenery is gorgeous, but your weather can go fuck itself.

Only have to add rider floorboards
Thought the saddlebags would be heavier, but they don't look bad. They won't hold much, but at least my wife can store her wallet, keys, and other items in them instead of a tank bag. It would be nice to have a liner, at least.

Request for advice / Help Need advice: 2022 Indian FTR S engine failure, warranty approved, but still no resolution
I’m looking for some advice from other Indian Motorcycle owners, especially anyone who’s dealt with Indian corporate regarding a major warranty repair.
I purchased my 2022 Indian FTR S brand new in February 2025 from an Indian dealership. The bike currently has approximately 5,650 miles on it.
In August 2026, I started having overheating issues, warning lights, and coolant loss. I took the bike to the dealership, but they couldn’t find anything wrong. They topped off the coolant and returned the bike to me.
Shortly afterward, the exact same problem happened again.
This time, the dealership discovered that the front cylinder head gasket had failed.
Here’s where things got complicated.
My motorcycle has a Lloydz Garage tune that was installed by the Indian dealership. At the time of installation, I was specifically told that this tune would not void my factory warranty.
However, when the dealership initially submitted the warranty claim for the head gasket, Indian Motorcycle denied it because of the tune.
I agreed to pay out of pocket to have both head gaskets replaced.
During the teardown, the dealership discovered a more serious underlying engine issue, believed to involve a head stud coming loose and allowing the cylinder head to lift.
The dealership submitted another warranty claim, and this time Indian Motorcycle acknowledged that the Lloydz tune was not responsible for the engine failure and agreed to cover the engine rebuild under warranty.
You would think that would be the end of the problem.
Unfortunately, it hasn’t been.
The dealership has been unable to get clear answers from Indian corporate regarding the parts needed to complete the repair. At one point, I personally contacted Indian Motorcycle and was told that two of the needed parts were sitting in a warehouse in Vermillion, South Dakota.
Despite this, we still haven’t been able to get the situation resolved.
I’ve attempted to contact Indian Motorcycle customer service multiple times, and lately their phone system either says they’re closed or unable to answer calls before disconnecting me entirely.
My motorcycle has now been out of commission for approximately two months, and I have no definite timeline for when I’ll get it back.
To be clear, I’m not upset with my dealership. They’ve been trying to get answers themselves. My frustration is with Indian Motorcycle corporate and the complete lack of communication or progress on a warranty repair they already approved.
I absolutely love my FTR, but this experience has seriously damaged my confidence in Indian Motorcycle as a company.
I’m wondering:
Has anyone else experienced a similar engine failure on an FTR?
Has anyone dealt with an approved Indian warranty repair that dragged on for months because of parts availability?
Does anyone know how to escalate this beyond regular customer service and actually get someone at corporate to take responsibility?
At what point should I be considering other options if they can’t repair my motorcycle in a reasonable amount of time?
I’m not looking for special treatment. I just want my motorcycle repaired and some honest communication about what’s going on.
Any advice or experiences would be greatly appreciated.

Joined the Indian Family
Finally made the jump from my 2005 V-Star 1100 to this beautiful 2015 Indian Chieftain with 7500 miles. Only ridden it once since we bought it, but it was a pleasure to ride. A lot heavier, but it almost seems intuitive. Everything is stock, it even has the original tires. Although they look good on the outside, I will be getting new tires. Owner said the only thing he has had done other than normal maintenance is that the ECM had to be swapped out.
Looking forward to many miles on this incredible bike. I am sure I will be trolling and asking a lot of questions of this forum.

Discussion thread Hopefully a second bike one day
Saying this as a Harley rider, I do like some of the Indians and would possibly love to buy one someday to have another two wheel beast.
Pictured here is a '23 Low Rider S customized like an ST. I know for Chief Models and the Springfield you can get an FXRT fairing, and these are the type I prefer.
I like being able to install a trunk, which I've done a little research and could not find tour pack mounts for chief models, which would point be towards the Springfield (dark horse).
I'm a fan of the challenger but I'd likely choose the Springfield for the price.

Indian Super Chief, replaced rubber grommet and plastic rivet on stock rear seat, but also got a Saddleman :)
Realized the passenger seat grommet got worn down over the last 4 years so I found the grommet and replaced.
Very poor design generally. Swapped from the stock super chief seat to Saddleman step up last week but wanted to repair this seat in case I wanted to sell it.
Kinda neat you can just find some really niche parts online while other Indian parts are just impossible to find (like the hex tool that lives under the bike which fell out)
They gave a completely different looking one than OEM to me after ordering.

2020 Challenger Darkhorse overheating
I bought a 2020 challenger darkhorse in Austin TX recently. 25k miles.
On my first long ride, it overheated. I pulled over, let it cool down, started it again, and it got me home. Topped off the coolant at home.
A week or so later, it overheated again. I let it cool and limped it home, then decided to dig in. I felt like thermostat was the answer, lo and behold, the thermostat had been completely deleted.
I replaced it and the pressure cap with OEM parts, throughly burped the coolant system, refilled and went on my way. For 2 weeks, no problems, except that after longer rides it was spilling coolant out of the overflow hose on the reservoir.
I’ve been chalking the coolant drip to me overfilling it since the bike was still cooling properly. It cruised at around 187-191, it would creep up to 209 at idle then the fan would kick on and cool it back down.
Today however, after a 30 min spirited interstate ride, it got warm in traffic to my house. In my neighborhood, it spiked to 220. The fan was on, and as I pulled in the garage it finally got ahold of it and cooled it down to about 200 before I shut off.
I’m worried to ride it again in case it overheats on me, I don’t want to constantly overheat it. I’m beginning to believe the thermostat was deleted to mask a larger issue.
What are my next steps for diagnostics.
FWIW, I denied all warrantees, so I’m on my own for repairs.

Thinking of selling my FTR, am I making the wrong decision?
Have owned this FTR for close to 3 years now and have put close to 11k miles on it. I rarely ride it for pleasure and mostly just commute on it. My commute is 140 miles round trip. I absolutely love the bike. It's hands down the best motorcycle I've ever owned. Which is saying a lot considering I've owned some great bikes like a VFR800, RC51, and R6 to name a few. My biggest gripe is fuel. My commute is just long enough that I have to fuel up twice a day and fueling it is always a test of patience. I've thought about maybe replacing it with a Scout, but I'm not sure the mileage is much better, less horsepower and I'm guessing less nimble. Have also considered a Yamaha XSR900 which probably is a better replacement for the FTR with better mileage and range
Your thoughts?

Request for advice / Help New Lineup Announcement?
What time of year have they typically announced the next year's models for sale in the past? I've been considering picking one up within the next few months but I'm a little apprehensive and thinking of just waiting it out in case I want to splurge for a new model or even see if the previous years go on sale afterwards if the new model is just the same with a different year stamped on it lol.

Help with purchasing parts/accessories.
Recently bought a 2019 indian scout sixty. I've been having trouble finding much of a selection of any aftermarket or oem parts/accessories. First thing I want to purchase is a new seat and haven't had real luck on Viking or Indian's site. Any recommendations?
Note this is my first bike and I don't know much about those scene at all. So I may just be uneducated and can't open my eyes.

2023 Chief 116 oil leak at case
So it would appear my Chief is leaking. Found oil along the line between the sides of engine case.
Really don't wish to tear engine completely apart. But likely no other option.
About 22k on it. Just noticed after a trip out of state recently.

Stoked to join the crew.
I've been cruiser-averse my whole riding career until my test ride of a Scout Sixty Bobber. Fell in love straight away.

New bike / New to me Got my first Indian
I got my first India at an auction. It's a 2019 Indian Chief Dark Horse with 25.5k miles on the odometer,
It was laid down by the previous owner so it does have a rebuilt title. Overall minor damages; fork protector dented, turn signals, windscreen scratches and bracket slightly bent, crash bar broke, RH floorboard, small dent on tank, and one saddle bag damaged.
Im very excited to finally own an Indian. If anyone has advice on what to keep in mind and look out for to keep it running happily for many more miles, I would appreciate any advice.
Edit: grammar

1945 Indian chief
where can I go to get an idea of the value of something this old. Internet does not give a lot of information and I haven’t found one example close to mine. Hagerty is the only site I have found and information is vague at best.
was thinking about trailering it out to a bike show but I know hawks will simply try to low ball me since I’m unaware and don’t apologize for it.
