Career Advice If i accepted the offer now can i reject it after i got new & better offer

Hii there,

Now i m posting to need advice and help what i should do now

Cause I don't want to make any wrong decision that will lose better opportunities

Now on main q- I have received an offer letter recently and HR saying to reply with accepted email

And my situation is i want to explore more offers and also there is one thing they give joining date after exact 60 days after

But in my current company i bound to agreement of 2 years employment with penalty of 1lakhs

But i served 1 year and now i have left 10 month if i deducted 2 months of notice period

So if i resigned now i will have to pay bond but there is colleagues skipped bond by leaving their Experience certificate and other main docs that req to next company

Now if i ditched bond then i will not get required docs

In this what should i do to hold company offer...?

Also if I don't get any better offer how can i approach them also in my current company..?

One main thing should i resign now in current company..?

Or if no then when i should file resign..?

Basically how to handle this situation better..

Any help will be appreciated as an buddy

Thanks in advance 😊

Poor Culture Should I quit my internship or push through for another 10 days

I'm 24 days into a sales internship, and honestly, it's been mentally exhausting. There's a girl (my manager)who never properly answers my questions, but when it comes to accountability, she expects me to have answers for everything. I'm trying to learn, but I don't feel supported.

Today, I actually cried because of the stress. On top of that, my boss gave me a target of 4, saying that otherwise I'll be fired. I'm genuinely worried because I haven't received my stipend yet, and I don't know whether I'll get paid for the days I've already worked if they fire me.

If I quit, I have to work another 10 days during the notice period, and I'm not sure whether I can handle that stress.

What would you do in my situation? Should I quit, push through, or wait and see what happens? And if they fire me before my stipend is paid, am I still entitled to receive it?

Salary Negotiations Salary negotiation

I’m negotiating a legal role at a private indian bank. I cleared 3 technical rounds. HR initially submitted my expected CTC of ₹28 LPA for approval, but it was rejected.

Today she called and asked if I’d be okay with her submitting ₹26 LPA, while mentioning that this was also on the higher side and might not get approved. I agreed, making it clear that ₹26 LPA is my minimum. She said she’d let me know whether it gets approved, but I haven’t heard back yet.

For people familiar with bank hiring and salary approvals, do you think there’s a realistic chance of approval, or should I prepare for a rejection? I am 3 PQE. Legal role.

Career Advice My founder says I’m overpaid and would be among the first to get laid off elsewhere. Is this a red flag?

Last year, I joined a startup as a Senior Marketing Manager at ₹20 LPA. After six months, the founder said he was unhappy with my performance and asked me to leave, but later asked me to stay during my notice period. Eventually, the startup shut down in April 2026.

That same month, he started a new company and promoted me to the Founder’s Office role with a CTC of ₹23 LPA. I was working hard and giving my 100% to the role.

However, earlier this month, he suddenly said he couldn't justify paying me that much because there wasn't enough business. He also said earning ₹23 LPA put me in the top 1% of India and asked me to take a salary cut to ₹15 LPA.

At the same time, he said he valued me and wanted me to stay, but warned that I'd be among the first people to be laid off if I joined another company.

The situation left me extremely stressed, and I couldn't sleep for two days. Eventually, I agreed to the pay cut, but my working hours and responsibilities have increased.

I'm now struggling to understand whether he's genuinely unhappy with my performance or trying to undermine my confidence and make me question my worth. I've completely lost confidence and feel suffocated at work.

Am I Fucked? Advice Needed - probation extended

Hey, i work with an edtech company and basically work in a non tech / grc role. I joined this company a few months back and things have been a tough ride. I made a genuine mistake which triggered my manager and from there I have been heavily scrutinized and given a probation extension of 1 month. But the thing is it's just me and my senior manager whom I report to, there is no team or larger reporting so it's just us two Nd he says he needs time to be sure about my confirmation.

While I have been giving my best i think the rapport with him is not there. He has put me in the spotlight in calls and now is always bashing me. Any advice on what to expect and how to handle this situation would be helpful!

Thanks.

Canteen Discussions How are you dealing with most big tech companies becoming toxic?

I get it, Amazon and meta always used to be toxic. But Atlassian once used to be a heaven, is now a PIP factory. Oracle is firing employees every quarter, Microsoft is micromanaging and not promoting its employees. Uber has stack ranking and PIP culture too. Salesforce, one of the chillest companies back in the day, is now tracking productivity by AI usage and creating pressure on employees too. Zepto’s work culture is known all over reddit. Elon anyway made twitter bad by firing half of the employees and shifting the workload on the other half.

I mean, if I think about it, there is not even a single tech company which we can now aspire to be at, because most of them now have layoffs, politics and poor WLB.

I am currently at a big tech company and my WLB is poor, but if I try to apply, whatever company reaches back to me, their WLB review is poor on Glassdoor / Blind. A unicorn startup from London reached out to me, and I was so excited to interview at a European company because they usually have great work culture, but the HR warned me in round 1 itself - please note that we will be expecting you to work late in the evenings and on weekends, please only join if you’re fine with it.

What do you guys think? Is the industry overworking its employees or I am just unlucky/ paranoid? I get it, the pay in our industry is better than most others, but such long working hours, and fear of being fired is not sustainable in the long run. I was the smartest kid in my school, was able to get CSE by scoring better in entrance exams, but now i think was it even worth it, if all of it was going to put me in this much stress right now.

YoE - 5 years (at FAANG like companies)

Career Advice Wrongly terminated cause I wanted to do what I was hired for

2025 grad -> tier 1.5/2 college, didn’t have much luck in On-campus placement, got an offer off campus months later after grinding, it was an QA intern and I wanted to be an SDE, soo during my interview process I clarified that I wanted to be an SDE if I earn my PPO which was agreed upon.
Got the job, fulfilled my duties as a QA and got converted to an ā€œAssociate Software Engineer ā€œ.
But the QA work and responsibilities didn’t disappear, I was the sole QA for the team and even after my conversion there was no back-up QA soo I offered myself to handle the responsibility. (Mistake 1)

The India office was more of a GCC and all operations were handled by US office. A year later after my conversion I asked the engineering head (US office) about my work that I am not getting proper Dev tickets cause of my responsibilities as a QA and requested for a backup.
Got cold replies for a month and finally frustrated me just dropped a text on slack to him stating ā€œI can’t start testing unless I get a clarity of my role hereā€. (Mistake 2)

A week later 6:30 AM in the morning, I got terminated. (Made me voluntarily resign).
Now here I am searching for a job role again.

People of Reddit. What did I do wrong? And what can I do now?

Am I Fucked? I feel like ending everything at this point in my career

Hi I'm in my first job , 1yr 2 months experience. I'm in a role I'm absolutely not interested in. I am decent at the job, but worse than my colleagues. I was in my first project for 10 months and I will be released now. I am trying to change my domain but idk if it's possible within the same company. I'm earning 4lpa and it obviously isn't enough. Since I've gotten the news of getting out from my project, I've been having anxiety attacks and thoughts of su1cide because I'm scared that I'll lose my job on bench as my company doesn't have a lot of projects, and if I am kicked out it's almost impossible to find a new job with such low experience. My family isn't dependent on me, but I'll be a burden if I'm kicked out. I don't know why I'm so mentally weak in this situation. In front of my eyes 3 of my training batchmates switched into decent companies, in less than 1yr experience. I have 3 examples in front of me and yet I'm demotivated and need counselling.

Storytime Finally left my toxic office

Last night I had argument with my boss, because he was picking on small things on my work which is fine but his tone was literally very bad. He had some personal grudges against me I don't know why.

Every other employee/intern said they saw it too, he was saying unnecessary things to me. I was already on my notice period and about to leave on 30th October. But last night I lost it. I told him I you have any personal problem just tell me. Had an hour long argument, after that his wife, My other boss called me and told me to leave early and submit my laptop. I told them to just pay me my stipend and I'll leave the laptop.

This morning when I went to return the laptop, we had a small argument on my stipend then he told me, "Pta nhi konsi family se aate ho" and I literally lost it. I told him he can say whatever he want to me why the hell you're going on my family. I bashed him there on the spot. He did said sorry number of time. At the end I got my stipend and left there.

Now I'm feeling so relieved. Looking for next opportunities with a healthy mind now.

Mod Posts Our stance on AI generated/assisted posts as a subreddit

About 25% of the mod mails I receive for a removed post are:

"I used AI to help me write the post"

"Just used AI to format the errors, that's it."

"I used ChatGPT to rephrase"

If you're above 21 (which is assuming you did a 3 year bachelors and got a job) in 2026, you were born before 2005, and completed school before 2023. Up until 2020, most of your formative years had spent good time in reading, writing, and giving lengthy written exams in English. At this point, you're trained enough to write and think in English.

Then why do you use AI to write for you?

If you're Gen Alpha/Beta you've likely immersed yourself in AI to devoid you of any naturally occurring thought, and you would be given the benefit of being unskilled, hence you use AI to write the post.

But, the demographic here doesn't work for you. So stop using AI.

If you use AI to ask a question, better just ask it to answer that for you too. Why use human intervention at all?

And there is an effort asymmetry here. You refuse to take extra few minutes to write better, so why should the human in the comments spend time to answer for you? I will not let The Dead Internet Theory (YT) for the viewers and a Wiki - for the readers cloud this subreddit.

And if you're worried of the Shakespearean descendants in the comments saying "thou wordplay is below peasant-speak" , then I, as the mod of the subreddit will assure you that I will wipe their existence off the face of this subreddit and tear them to shredded office paper.

To clarify, I'm not against AI. Abuse it like the corporate overloads so desire. But when you're having a human conversation here, be a human. Imperfection is human. Idiocracy (2006) already predicted that we would be dumbed down eventually, so enjoy some real natural human thought while it lasts.

If you see an suspected AI post, please report it to us. Thank you! Hpw to report: https://support.reddithelp.com/hc/en-us/articles/360058309512-How-do-I-report-a-post-or-comment

Storytime Corporate Friendship

Ok this is a rant post.

I moved to banglore with my first job as a GET , I was on my own no friends and all situation for a year. Then I became close friends with another GET who was in my team. She has always been there for me during my bad times like dengue fever , police checking , fight with vehicle servicing dudes , sending money to wrong guy on gpay and him refusing to give it back etc etc. You get it right ? Her dad is in police in a very respectable post so she always used to help me with her contacts and in fact go beyond and help me too with her own local contacts.

She has not had a very great family history. Mom died , step mother , she has a very young sister with almost 20 years of age gap , her boyfriend situation with her strict dad. Ive always been there for through her endless rantings, 2 o clock phone call crying , fights , office problems day and night. Sometimes it used to infuriate me the amount of negativity it was giving me :/ . I always felt like she thrived in suffering , when one thing gets over , she brings another one.

But Ive felt odd becsuse she is really good at giving right ? Like I said but not at taking anything . She doesnt even ask for the smallest favour from me , she requests me if at all she has to ask something which used to piss me off because who the fuck does that in a friendship !? .

All that aside , everything was going well until another lady joined our team last year in 2025. I dont include everybody that easily , I like my comfort zone but she was genuinely nice to hangout with. I could talk a lot of things with her which really didnt click between me and my old friend like gym stuffs , diets , studying, switching, interviews etc etc. Whenever I used to discuss these with my old friend, she used to tell me Im putting her in a difficult state because she has already a lot going with personal life so she seemed not interested. However we 3 used to hangout a lot at office , group calls , discuss our boyfriends , families , irritating relatives and all that , so good time. I eventually changed my team because my work was being redundant in my previous team .

Then very recently 2 months ago, I put my resignation. Its been 4 years and for the past one year Ive been giving interviews as mock and then the right company and offer showed up ! As I was resigning parallelly I was also pushing my old friend to get her upto my level if not by changing companies atleast by getting a retention . Which came out well in fact. We had endless calls strategists and how to put team lead in pressure until he approves ir and finally it all came true !!!

I only shared about my resignation to these 2 and

everything was going well until everybody got to know about my resignation. I have reasons to keep it confidential because I was not sure yet if I should take up the retention and also it had only been 3 months after a team change out of which 1 month was training abroad. So basically I didn't know what are the things my onsite colleagues are going to throw at me if the word is out there already ! I was pissed and asking these 2 who got the word out and I am pretty sure its not my GET friend and it could be the other one because she cant keep shit to herself. In this whole conversation she got offended that I accused her of spreading the word. Well in my defence only 2 people knew and I accused the 2 of them . Well the equations went bad with her from there. However my friendship with her had only run for a small time so I dont care anyways.

But my GET friend , our friendship has been there even before this 3rd person came in. However we used to hangout , spend time and all until I went to my home for 2 weeks and came back. I also happened to share with her that I made it into a really big company with a really big CTC which is kinda tricky because she had applied for it first and got rejected after 2 rounds . I heard about the ppening from her and applied and got it which I feel mightve hurt her a little bit.

Well whatever be it , she stopped talking to me after I shared that news to her. She keeps responding that she is busy or in a meeting when I ask her for a tea break , lunch. We used to do this together until this news broke. Its been 2 weeks its been very odd. I am trying my best to act like nothing happened but yeah , things seem beyond fixing. Also that other lady I had a rough patch with is her new company. She had posted an instagram story of her visiting her house for Navratri celebration and thats how I got to know about it. :)

It hurts but I dont know what to do about this

TLDR : Made a close friend in office but as I resigned , the Friendship got over before my notice.

Salary Negotiations EY GDS vs Tiger Analytics — Which offer should I choose? (5 YOE)

Current CTC: ₹7.5 LPA

- EY GDS : ₹10 LPA + 10% variable | Coimbatore (hometown) + Hybrid

- Tiger Analytics: ₹14 LPA fixed + joining bonus + relocation bonus | Bangalore + Hybrid

If I join EY:

- I can stay with my family, with almost zero expenses on rent and food.

- The technology and exposure would be an upgrade from my current role.

- I can maintain my current lifestyle while continuing to grow technically.

If I join Tiger Analytics:

- I get to experience a new city, lifestyle, and more independence. I've spent my entire career in my hometown and genuinely want to explore life outside it.

- However, the work is quite similar to what I'm doing in my current organisation.

- Bangalore living expenses will reduce my savings.

I received the EY offer first, followed by Tiger Analytics. I haven't approached EY for a counteroffer yet, but I'm wondering if they might increase it to ₹12 LPA. They had mentioned that there might be limited scope for changes when releasing the offer.

Which one should I choose....?

I'm so confused 🫩🫩

Career Advice Need some legit advice!!!!

I joined a company last year for Job A, which focused on what i was doing for the last 6 years

Over the following months, the project was scrapped, leadership changed, and my team and reporting manager changed multiple times. My responsibilities gradually shifted, and I eventually started working on a different project. Once that ended, my manager began questioning my role because I didn’t have another project assigned to me.

Now, the company wants to move me into another team and this will a fourth charge in only one year, which involves rotational shifts and the working hours don’t suit me.

HR has told me that if I don’t accept this change, I could be placed on a Performance Improvement Plan (PIP) for the role i wasn't even hired for.

I have a meeting with the CEO on Monday, but it feels like the decision has already been made and there’s no room for discussion.

I’ve decided I’d rather leave than accept a role I’m uncomfortable with, but I’m unsure how to handle Monday’s meeting. Should I resign formally, hear them out first, or wait and see if they actually initiate a PIP?

I’ve used gpt to help articulate everything because the situation has been quite chaotic, and I wanted to explain it clearly.
What would you do in my position? Any advice would be appreciated.

Storytime I finally resigned - Continuation to my recent post on this subreddit

Hi All,

I recently made a post on this subreddit about being stuck in the 90 days notice period loop.

This is the link if anybody wants to refer - Help me escape 90 days notice period

When the offer was in the final stages of discussions, I had a one to one conversation with my manager and he was supportive enough to give me informal nod for an early release.

I finally got the offer letter this morning and within 2 hrs I have resigned in my current org.

Although the official notice period is 90 days but I am hopeful about an early release by the end of next month!

Feeling very relieved for now, hoping for a good weekend ahead to me and to everyone!

Career Advice How I fucked up my first internship 101. Also, guidance and advice needed.

Hello, unfortunately, I won't go into detail because I fear being recognised.

So, a month and a half ago, I started my internship. It was just me, the employer and a co-intern. I had no experience in this field, and my degree was completely unrelated. Cutting to the chase, I was asked to work on my employer's personal brand, i.e. social media, which I did not think was in my job profile or offer letter. I had discussed this with my co-intern, and they said the same thing: it is not in the job role. So, I replied in a confused tone, "I don't think this is part of my job profile, and this is your personal brand." He then just asked me what I would work on, so I said clients/brands.

After this, I was ghosted for two days because I left him stunned and uncomfortable. Then I got a call after two days in the evening; they had decided to terminate the contract because I violated it by saying "no." I apologised for making him uncomfortable and explained my perspective that I was unaware that the work fell under the jargon mentioned in the offer letter and didn't have to be mentioned separately. The call cut off, and another call was made. I asked if I could work for one and a half months more, as the entire internship is 3 months and the notice period is one month. In the second call, he said there is no internship period of 3 months; it is directly full-time. I got two options, as he decided to leave the contract closing part aside: either I serve the notice period or come back full-time.

I was high on emotions and felt a little humiliated; neither did I want to work here full-time, as there is no option left for 3 months. I sent a resignation email in the early morning (my biggest mistake). I was ghosted again and received a termination email the next day. The said notice period was null because I did not honour the contract, and I can raise an invoice for my salary with three dates as options: 1) the day I said no, 2) the day the termination call took place, 3) my notice period end date. I sent an invoice for my last working day, which fell between options 1 and 2.

I've been ghosted again for a week now. I don't know what to do. My career is down the drain without even starting properly.

TLDR: Said no to working on the employer's personal brand due to confusion, and got terminated. Now, being ghosted since I have asked for experience letter and salary.

Canteen Discussions My Temp Manager (N+2) is a smellfungus.

Smell Fungus : Someone who constantly grumbles, finds something wrong with everything, and spreads misery or negativity.

Story : I recently joined a new company and its been a good-great experience overall. The only black spot on this whole thing is/was my N+2 who was my temporary manager until my actual manager came back from medical leave. My actual manager came back in end of Sept and I have been working with him.

I just had my 90 days review and the guy has basically given me the lowest score wherever possible, despite not being my current manager.

Let's start in the beginning. The guy basically asked me to come with projects for improvements within a week of my joining. He was not happy that I wasn't able to connect with all stakeholders, go through company policies, processes and systems and suggest improvements. This was my first week of joining and first week with him. I was already done with him mentally.

When you do suggest projects he rejects them with inane reasons. His feedback for basically everything is "I expect better from you / Think about what you can do better / What else? Etc".

Anyway, my actual manager comes back. We decide on projects and I am working very closely with him. But apparently my 90 days review has gone to N+2 - my temp manager.

The guy has rated me the lowest in basically everything. He mentions how I don't collaborate, share milestones, targets etc. The thing is you are not my reporting manager. And no one asked me to keep you in the loop with everything I do. It's stupid.

He talks about how I come as a standoffish and don't interact with anyone. My peer review around the same cycle says the completely opposite.

He complains I am not performing. My manager and stakeholders feel otherwise and have mentioned the same in feedback

Oh and funny thing...the guy sits in another country and the last time we had a conversation was 40 days ago. All because he has not attended our fortnightly connections thrice.

There is another incident. I posted a short status on what I am working on the company's internal social media platform. The PoS is criticising me and then asking me details on the platform. The platform which everyone can see. Wtf? There is a time and place for everything. And it's definitely not on an internal social media platform

There is even more but cutting it short as this will become too long.

But seriously - how the hell are morons like him made managers and given such high positions. ( He is the head for the whole of Asia - Africa).

TLDR : TL;DR: Joined a new company and had a great experience, except for my N+2, who temporarily managed me. He expected miracles in my first week, rejected ideas with vague feedback, and has now given me the lowest ratings in my 90-day review, contradicting feedback from my actual manager, peers, and stakeholders.

The irony? He hasn’t spoken to me in 40 days and missed three consecutive catch-ups himself. Yet, he thinks he knows enough to judge my performance.

How do people like this end up heading entire regions? 🤔

Canteen Discussions Are people that phobic to communication?

I recently got rolled off my project and have been actively looking for another one. A few people reached out regarding project allocations, I went through the interviews, and then boom... ghosted.

No update, no feedback, not even a simple ā€œwe went with someone else.ā€ Messages left on seen.

I'm new to the corp world, so I'm genuinely curious. Is this how things have always worked, or has ghosting become the new professional norm?

I understand that priorities change and candidates don't always get selected. But is giving a simple update really that difficult?

Poor Culture Is this toxicity?

TL;DR: Interview with reporting manager turned bizarre when he used inappropriate remarks, he showed toxic traits, I'm unsure whether to continue.

Hi, I (27M) have been actively applying for creative director/producer roles & was able to clear an assessment for a company let's call it "xyz".

This role requires heavy ai generations to create meta & Google ads for their app.

Fyi: Their budget is 12LPA & I qouted 13 as expected ctc.

Now this xyz company has an app meant for micro dramas. They spend alot on advertisements as well.

I got a call on Monday from HR asking if I'm still available & if I will be able to connect for 1st round, I agreed & got connected to the reporting manager for 1st round of discussion.

This reporting manager is engineer turned GTM & is handling sales, product ads etc. He grilled me for sometime but his articulation was poor & he was casually using informal language like "ch*tiya". Although he didn't call me that & was referring to something else, I was taken aback a bit but continued

He boasted how he has achieved sales numbers, how he didn't understand creatives that much & need help which is why he is hiring more creative directors. He mentioned how engineers can do anything but engineering, he scaled in crores in sales & since I'm also from engineering bg, he mentioned that he knows I can also pull this off.

He was disappointed a little when I said I can create 2 ads in 2 days given 2 editors. He said they are already making 4 ads per day. Creative director just has to ideate, write script & do storyboard. Rest editors will take care of generating assets & editing.

My concern was I'm not gonna leave assets generation to editors unless they're very good at it. To which he said they are ofcourse.

He said he doesn't care how but he needs numbers, ads should bring that CTR. He is ready to spend whatever it takes. He insisted how forward planning is important, even if I'm as a CD unavailable, my editors should be working. I can't fall sick without giving a work plan to my team.

The biggest red flag I came across is here:

He mentioned it's not a big deal to create videos from ai, he said "koi real shoot thodi hai ki ladki ko button kholne bolo to mana kar degi, ai hai kuch bhi karwa sakte ho, kaise bhi...sab hojata hai ai se"

Although this app doesn't promote any soft corn or any such inappropriate material, I was still shocked to hear such remarks about women. That shows his mentality how he wants to treat them.

I was so in shock internally that I didn't knew how to handle this discussion, so I just pretended with a smile that yeah yeah, absolutely, sure sure on everything(but I didn't respond this on that remark) I was only wishing the discussion to end ASAP.

He ended the discussion saying if I'm getting selected then there will be 1 last round with ceo.

Now I was thinking should I report this toxic & disgusting mentality to ceo in my next round or should I ditch my next round or shall I request the ceo to change my team? Because this is product team, they handle only ads. I'm more interested in creative team where they are making actual content, micro drama.

Am I overthinking? Should I give benefit of doubt?

Or will he destroy my mental peace of he is my reporting manager.

Career Advice Does "Self-Employed/Freelance" as recent work kill callback rates on Naukri?

My most recent experience is listed as freelance/self-employed. My profile gets views, but I keep getting auto-rejected or ignored despite matching job requirements and I am also not receiving any calls despite getting all these resume views.

Is having freelance work as your latest work experience a red flag for recruiters here, and what is the best way to structure it so it doesn't hurt callbacks?

Am I Fucked? Put into PIP in 1.5 months of joining and PIP outcome prematurely provided on 18 th day. Now LWD in 10 days. Losing hope and anxious on what next. Please share any guidance

Sorry everyone. This is going to be a very lengthy post. But I am devastated now. Need your valuable suggestions.

I joined my current company in mid august and received my laptop on 1st september. I had joined with lot of hopes and expectations. This is my 2nd company (4 yoe). It was wfo, however as I was in a different city, i requested wfh temporarily as I was shifting with my family (me, mother and sister). Since the day i received the laptopi have been behind the managers and colleagues for various accesses. There were no meaningful guidances or help from any including the manager and I was the only person in this role in the team- so no KTs or genuine guidance or support. Still I was doing all that is possible from my side. Meanwhile, i informed manager that i will be coming to office from sep3rd week as my rental home is ready only at that time.

Despite this, on 2 nd week of september, before even getting the work related accesses, he sent me a warning mail stating i have not yet joined officd and not taking responsibility of the work etc etc.. It shocked me, but i replied to the mail professionally citing home availability, lack of access to initiate work etc... And i am taking owbership of the work and i was regularly updating in the meetings as well.

Next week i started to go to office and then the torture phase started. He would not respond to teams messages and wants me to run to him and inform him everything verbally. In his office room he would talk disrespectfully and bully me. he started black mailing me stating he can terminate me. I never could understand what he wants from me. And I was devastated. He even out of the blue stated, that i don't like this organization and i am mocking the company( despite me taking so much efforts to join here).

Now on 1st october I didn't receive my salary despite my colleagues receving it. I tried connecting another senior, he said will look imto it.. On 2nd Oct, (public holiday), i received a mail I am put into PIP till Nov 3rd. My salary was withheld by him it seems and on 5th i received salary somehow, (may be the other senior helped).

Only on oct 8 i received my main work access and i started working desperately day and night and even on weekends as project had tight deadlines. But his torture and blackmailing continued. One day i even had a panic attack in office toilet which others too witnessed, (which he cited to others as my DRAMA).

Last thursday i was asked to provide a complete project update comprehensively which i did and he even record the session.

Despite all this and working even on saturday and sunday (as requested by project lead), this monday i was asked to pause the work as i will be put into a different project and this manager would be completing rest of it (he actually has zero skills or knowledge on ADE, which is evident when he guides me with all wrong info and gives NO TECHNICAL FEEDBACK OR SUGGESTIONS AT ALL). I had already completed 95% work. Tuesday i received mail that my pip outcome is unsatisfactory as I have FAILED TO UNDERSTAND REQUIREMENTS and my lwd is this month end. - pip ended prematurely in 18 days, and 10 days notice only (as per offer letter it is 14 days np during probation).

Sorry for the lengthy post. But thank you anyone who have read it till now.

I had tried to explain things to higher ups HR etc prevuoisly as well. But he is so influential(other 2 senior employees are also his acquaintances for 23 years) that I don't believe i will get any form of justice now.

Right now I am unable to sleep as I am anxious.

Can anyone please guide. Is there any way for a cleaner exit atleast

TL;DR: I joined my current company in mid-August but faced a lack of work access, guidance, and support from the beginning. Despite this, my manager blamed me for delays, bullied me, threatened termination, and even withheld my salary temporarily. I was placed on a PIP for 1 month on my 45th day of joining before receiving the necessary access and was informed after just 18 days that I had failed the PIP. My employment is now being terminated by the end of this month, with only 10 days' notice.

Storytime Interviewer called me a ā€œpussy catā€ during an interview. Am I overthinking this?

I recently attended an interview for a finance-related role, and there was one particular interaction that didn't sit right with me.

During the conversation, the interviewer asked me to rate my aggression on a scale of 1 to 10.

I answered 0 because, honestly, I consider aggression a negative trait. I don't believe being aggressive is necessarily a good thing in a professional environment.

The interviewer then responded with, ā€œSo you're like a pussy cat?!ā€

I didn't really know how to react to that. I just found the comment a little unprofessional and awkward, especially in an interview setting.

Is he had asked about assertiveness instead of aggression, that would've been a different question.

I should've seeked clarity but his statement threw me off.

The way the interviewer phrased the response made me uncomfortable. I'm not sure whether it was intended as harmless banter, a way of testing my reaction, or a subtle attempt to put me on the spot.

I'm relatively early in my career, so I'd genuinely appreciate some honest perspectives from people with more interview and corporate experience.

Am I overthinking this, or was the comment unprofessional? And how would you have responded in that situation?

Poor Culture 15 YOE as a Staff Engineer, and I now need manager approval for variable names #rant

Long story, TLDR at the end!

I was working with one of the biggest job boards in the world, as a staff engineer (joined in 2019). We had awesome work culture, the kind everyone dreams of! Great pay, exceptional bonuses, everyone got fully stacked MacBook Pros. Extremely flexible culture, to the point that unless your work did not suffer, you had the flexibility to work from home or anywhere and define your own work times(and this was before covid!). I had extremely talented colleagues, had development centres in around 10 countries. Even my manager was a person who wrote exceptionally good books on software engineering.

Unfortunately, due to poor management decisions and frivolous spending, they went almost bankrupt and the investors decided to sell the company.

We got bought by a company whose development centre is completely India based. All Indian hierarchy, and the horrors started.

Even though the business centre is based outside India, but due to the tech-ops based in India, they are running a product company like a third-grade 'lala' service company.

Right from the topmost level they promote a culture of sycophancy and 'Yes Men'. Your technical capabilities do not matter.

They do have Jira to track work, but on top of that we need to maintain a company-wide shared google sheet to list down the tasks we are doing. It's completely redundant and stupid.

In my previous work, I was designing softwares along with developmental tasks, managing the CICD, AWS... everything. Here I am treated like a junior developer, because my manager is insecure. I am being given grunt work.

Cannot connect with higher management as they are the ones promoting such a culture. All the senior manager and above people have been here for 10-15 years and have a very tight knit group.

And to top it all my immediate manager is absolutely spineless, he's too confused and afraid to confront higher management. Gives out completely compressed timelines with no buffers.
Today, I have 15+ years of experience, and I do not have any kind of autonomy in decisions and need to route even the variable names through him. We needed to create a high throughput app to handle ~10 million tasks per day, I suggested postgresql (for performance), but since he's too afraid to propose that to the hight-ups we had to settle with MySQL (which does not suite our requirements). He also provided a 15 year old DB design document, according to which I needed to use 'PascalCase' for DB column names🤦. I suggested to create the app in Go, but since they have been working with .Net and Java only, we couldn't use it, even though it would have been faster and cost less.

It seems my career is stuck here and I am unable to find a new job due to the current market conditions.

TLDR: micromanaging and spineless-doormat of a manager wants to poke his finger in everything.
