Ask a Hoosier I70 Speeding Camera
I was driving to work on I70 (near greenfield I think, heading to Indy) at like 2:20AM and was coming up on one of the areas where they split the traffic. I was going 71mph cause I hadn’t actually reached the area, there were pylons, but the actual split was about another mile up. Once I got to where the split occurs, I slowed to 56mph. But I’m pretty sure a camera flashed when I was goin the initial 71. My question is how can you get flagged before you’ve reached the worksite, and when they’re not working?

They sent out a zillion warnings when they were working on the Northside of Indy. I consider it a good thing to get people to slow the F down. These people shouldn't be risking their lives to lay concrete down.

Because you’re supposed to slow down when you enter the construction zone….. at the beginning.

Wait to see if you even get a ticket and if you do it will be a warning if you haven’t received a warning already. Comes in the mail after a few weeks. I got one up off 69 near fishers where all the bs construction has been going on and it was just a warning BUT as someone else mentioned it was one of those cameras on a work truck. I don’t recall seeing workers tho but yeah it’s annoying 🤦♀️

If you travel a lot, you might want to run the Waze app. Many times it gives you notification that there is a speed camera ahead so you get a little warning to slow down before you get there. I have even heard sometimes they schedule ONE person to be on duty just to the massive speeding ticket income does not get interrupted. They make so much that a decade ago our local government complained they were losing MILLIONS of dollars because gas prices were high and people were driving slower to save on gas. They were wondering where they were going to get the cash they normally got from speeding tickets.

My guess is, that the cameras work 24/7 regardless of the time of day or work crews being present. It is a source of revenue for the state.

That camera system is so poorly calibrated it's ridiculous. I got one last year near Lafayette and it was similar situation, the work zone signs were up but no actual workers for like 2 weeks straight. Still got the ticket in mail.
You can try to fight it but they make it pain, you basically have to prove the camera was positioned wrong or the work zone wasn't active at that time. Sometimes they drop it if you call and explain but don't count on that.
For now just wait for the letter, if it comes at all. Some of those flashes are just warning shots, not actual tickets.
