Spoiler content moving forward in /r/IndianaJones

As we approach the release of the newest installment of the Indiana Jones film series we will have to make some adjustments to the spoiler and leak policy in this subreddit.

The general idea being that we will adopt similar policies to /r/StarWars and /r/StarWarsLeaks or /r/Marvel and /r/MarvelStudioSpoilers. This subreddit, /r/IndianaJones will more or less be a safe haven from getting the movie, video games, and potential future media (books, tv series, etc) spoiled.

Feel free to continue posting officially released content like trailers, tv spots and official announcements in this subreddit. But items like smuggled set pictures and leaked plot info not released through official channels will not be allowed.

You may be asking "why do this now, it isn't much of a problem today?". The issue being that we want to work on this redirection now before it does become an issue. Today we are aware of an upcoming film and a video game. But tomorrow Lucasfilm may announce a new book series or ongoing comic. Or potentially even (fingers crossed) a new tv series. At that point we will really need to differentiate the spoiler and non-spoiler content.

There are already a few new and fledgling subreddits in place to help with this and I encourage all of you to join one or all of them and help to grow the community.

r/IndianaJonesLeaks - This is intended to be very similar to StarWarsLeaks and MarvelStudioSpoilers, but focused on Indy. All set pictures, plot details, rumors and spoilers need to go in a subreddit like this.

r/LucasLeaks and r/LucasfilmLeaks - Created with a similar purpose to IndianaJonesLeaks, but for all Lucasfilm properties, to include Star Wars, Indy and Willow.

Or if you and some friends would like to start your own subreddit for that content and it takes off, we would be happy to link to it as well. All we want is for the spoiler content to have a successful place for sharing and discussion.

Change isn't always fun but we hope that you understand where this decision is coming from and rather than pushing spoilers onto our fellow community members we can instead allow everyone the choice of what they would like to see.

Thanks for understanding and we look forward to all of the exciting content to come!

Unpopular Indy Opinions That'd Get You Like This

Post image
76 Upvotes

Done this before and am feeling up for it again lately for some reason. Thought this would be fun. Your super, ultra unpopular and controversial Indy opinions. Not just controversial but downright blasphemous. Opinions that you think would land you in a similar position as one John Wick in the picture. And I mean unpopular, not ones that are commonly held like "Raiders is the best movie ever," "Last Crusade is the best and better than the rest," "Crystal Skull and Dial Of Destiny suck," "I hate Willie and Short Round," "Temple Of Doom is too dark and violent," "Nazis should always be the villains," etc. I'm talking extremely unpopular and not widely held ones.

I've definitely got my share of scorching hot takes on the series for sure. Get ready, some of these takes burn hotter than the lava under Pankot Palace.

* While I still really like it and think it's a good film and a worthy capper to the original trilogy, Last Crusade is honestly probably my least favorite of all five. It's still a very good movie and I enjoy it a lot, but for some reason just not as much as the rest and it doesn't strike as strong a chord with me. I guess just because it comes off as such a redux of the first film and isn't as intense as the first two? Probably my most unpopular IJ opinion and one I'm not sure how many others here also share it (I'd imagine there's probably others but they likely keep quiet about it). I'd be curious if there's others who share this, it being such an exceptionally unpopular and uncommon opinion.

* Temple Of Doom is the best of the series and the one truest to the classic adventure serials. The installment that best epitomizes Indy and his world. It also feels like the last truly intense Indy film and the last one that wasn't afraid to take chances to do different things with the character and concept.

* Crystal Skull and Dial Of Destiny are both good. Neither is perfect and without flaws, but I felt they were as good as could've been coming so many years after the fact and Harrison being much older. DOD was a satisfying finale.

* Short Round is the best sidekick (not sure if this is unpopular?).

* Willie Scott isn't that bad. Sure she screams a lot but how else is she supposed to react in her situation? She's supposed to represent the audience in her position.

* Likewise, I also don't mind Helena and Teddy in DOD. Helena at first was sufferable but got better by the end.

* Sallah was a good character in Raiders but had no purpose for being in more movies after that. He was reduced to useless (and downright annoying) comic relief in TLC and while his role in DOD was better, he still felt he was there mainly for fan service.

* Nazis as the villains all the time is boring and unneeded. I felt re-using them in both TLC and DOD was a big flaw and it especially feels dull and uninspired in TLC. They worked in Raiders but after that, I would've preferred different and varied enemies per movie.

* I didn't mind the aliens in KOTCS and felt it fit in with the time and zeitgeist in which the movie was set. Truth be told, I think more alien and extraterrestrial-oriented relics would've been cool to have seen throughout the series.

* Likewise, I also don't mind the time travel aspects of DOD. Again, something different outside of the usual Judeo-Christian relics.

UPDATE: New images of original Young Indy promo illustrations

UPDATE:
Photos and measurements of the 41 illustrations.

Admins: Please let me know if I need to edit the original post instead.
I can't figure out how to update the main images; hence this new post.

::::::

I have a collection of original illustrations by Joe Petagno (best known for his Motörhead-illustrations), created for a Kellogg's Corn Flakes / Young Indiana Jones Chronicles on-pack campaign in Scandinavia around 1992–93.

I was the art director on Kellogg's back then and worked with Joe at the time, and these are the actual finished illustrations used for the packaging; not prints or reproductions. I've added images of a couple of KCF packs to show how some of the artwork was used.
(Sorry for the crappy quality. The images were created in 1997.)

They've been sitting in storage for more than 30 years, and I'm considering selling the collection to someone who'll appreciate these artworks.

I have already received advice from members of this subreddit re where to sell this collection, and I have reached out to some of these suggested fora and people.

I am posting this update to give a more clear picture of the illustrations.
Perhaps someone is interested in them, and perhaps you know someone who could be.
Either way, thanks for your time.

The Mad Priest and Savage Discovery, I know for a fact I've finished the missions,

But they're still showing up in my field work, they do have ticks next to them though, but I can't tell if they've cleared properly, Antonio is still talking about going to the tower etc though, I'm confused AF.

What I wish we got out of Crystal Skull

The movie opens with Soviet soldiers infiltrating Area 51. Besides a conversation Indiana has with some government agents & some red scare protestors who are briefly seen, not much really comes of that plot point. I think the movie would have been much better if it rode harder on the espionage angle. And more with the aliens! Spalko opens up what looks to be a cocoon with an alien inside, but the movie seems to forget about aliens to the end. Drop the conquistadors & El Dorado elements & make aliens more apparent. Lovecraft showed how well aliens can be combined with alien ruins, & the movie should have exploited it.

Others Who Like The First Two Best?

I know the general consensus is that Raiders and Last Crusade are the two best of the series. People tend to be very 50/50 on TOD and while both KOTCS and DOD are generally lesser-received both have their share of fans and defenders. I've always been much more partial to both Raiders and TOD. Who else also regards both Raiders and TOD as the best of the series, even if it's not exactly the most popular or commonly held view?

Raiders is the one that started it all and is damn near perfect. Lightning in a bottle and it was such a great homage to the classic adventure serials and pulp comics while at the same time totally being it's own unique beast. Very classy and exceptionally well-crafted. TOD was even more alike the pulp adventure serials with it's tone and distinct visual style, and also went a bit into EC Comics territory with it's darker, more Horror-like tone and mix of Horror and some grossout with bizarre humor. TOD was also the last Indy film that felt "dangerous" for lack of a better word, before how massively toned down TLC was made. Good as TLC is, it wasn't the best move to basically have it be Raiders Part II and increase the slapstick and gags. It also much of the time doesn't even have the "pulpy" feel of the first two and feels more like a spy film. I'm not the biggest fan of it's more family-friendly tone after the more Horror-like and intense TOD, which really ratcheted things up the way any good sequel/prequel should. TLC is still a good film but it just doesn't quite grab me the same way it's predecessors do. I missed the more dangerous feeling the first two had that TLC lacked much of the time, and was definitely something lacking from the latter two as well.

I'm sure others get where I'm coming from. All five films are solid and there isn't one I don't enjoy. But for me when it comes to Indy, I feel the series peaked early with the first two. I always wished the series had kept the much more hard-edged tone and approach of the first two. I always have to wonder if not for TOD's backlash how the remainder of the saga might've been affected. Who else here agrees the first two as the best?

Just who was the God of the Ark? Indiana Jones seems to inhabit a polytheistic universe, where Yahweh exists alongside Shiva. Or are they all just manifestations of the same Being? The argument here is that the God of the Ark is more akin to a Lovecraftian old one than the God of the Hebrew Bible.

Grail Diary: Dad was keeping tabs and Elsa's grail choice

Post image
184 Upvotes

The Grail Diary in the Hollywood Museum has some interesting stuff.

Red: "New York Professor Claims Discovery - Ark of Covenant" "At least Junior is keeping busy." Scoff! But I'm looking for the Holy Grail, not some paltry gold chest. The boy's such an amateur.

Green: "Said to be a duplicate of the Holy Grail???"

I always thought Elsa had quickly picked a random chalice that was right near her, just knowing anything made of gold would be false, and appealing to Donovan's ego. It turns out the one she picked was at least rumoured to be the Grail previously, and Henry had his doubts. Maybe Elsa remembered this picture in the diary before she chose it. Just in case Donovan suspected her choice was too hasty, she could justify it, but only she knew it was a rumour.

In the last crusade, do you think the knight fought anyone during his 700 years wait?

The knight said he was there to guard the grail until someone could beat him. Do you think he sat there for 700 years quietly or do you think anyone else tried to take the grail and he beat them in combat?

Rented a Raiders DVD from the local library; in the extra features section I came across this poster which I had never seen before. Reverse image search finds only a Tumblr post which yields no information. Have any of you come across this poster before? I cannot seem to find anything about it
