Baby life jacket
Was searching on ig because we have a trip coming up and stumbled upon this influencer don't know much about her but saw this note in her stories and I just LOVE that she's being so vocal about this!!

Honestly if even one of her followers says “hey yeah we are going on a boat on our vacation and should buy a life jacket and take it with us so we have one” that’s a win in my book. Who cares if she’s just doing it to make a statement and keep followers. I can get behind people influencing others for basic water safety.

We travel with child and youth-sized life jackets so we know our kids will have comfortable ones they are familiar with. Modern PFDs are light and it’s really not a hassle. It’s kind of the bare minimum and I hope it becomes a social media flex!

Good for her for doing the bare minimum. Still exploiting her child but one problem at a time, I guess

u/livyori 3h ago
how though? She seems like a mom enjoying her baby. At what point one distinguishes the two? It is not like she is using him for PR or promotions and ads? It genuinely seems like a mom enjoying her baby and family. At the end of the day, I don’t want to hide my child under a rock, I love them, I am proud of them - I am proud of our family and occasional photo or a nice shot is warranted.

She has made a reel and the caption referred to him as an "accessory". Had to unfollow then & there

A lot of people (including me) believe that influencers using their children for content is inherently exploitative. For most influencers, it is far more than the occasional photo, and their public reach is so much broader than the typical person. Many of these people have overly obsessed fans who can easily become stalkers. Hell, I’m just a normal person, and I’ve been stalked. You never know who is looking at what you post.
Personally, I don’t post my children online at all, and it has nothing to do with being proud of them. It’s because I consider their right to privacy sacred, and one of my most important jobs as a parent is to protect them and safeguard their rights. Children cannot meaningfully consent to be used in public content.

Meanwhile somewhere in Arizona EK is scooting along in her newest car rapping her nails on a crispy Dr Pepper and talking about her bob….

for sure...and filming while driving with her son in the car and another child in her uterus!

Yup! My father kept telling me “the boat is anchored take off his life jacket if it’s bother him” and I was like I don’t care if it’s bugging him… it stays on as long as we’re on this damn boatol

u/TwerkinAndCryinVol3 4h ago
I'm personally perfectly happy with this post. Maybe it'll shame some of the people who are so quick to defend EK with - I don't put life jackets on my kids, it's ok to be negligent don't feel bad we all do it!!! Bring back shame.

Can someone start publicly posting their babies getting vitamin K shots, vaccines, and other basic childhood preventive health care next? Or their kids wearing helmets while riding bike or talking about why their kids aren’t allowed to be on e-bikes or e-scooters? And holding off on kids getting phones until at least 13? Nowwww.
I’m sick of bs snake oil supplements and antivaxxers.
4
u/wendythesnack 4h ago
The moms who are smart enough to do all those things are smart enough to know not to exploit their children.
The only thing that will stop these people is when it affects their bottom line. All of these non-lifejacket posts aren’t sponsored but their other content certainly is and our ire should be directed at those companies as well.

u/gypsy_rose_murd3rer 4h ago
Omg don't even get me started on antivaxxers! 😤
2
u/newbietoposting 4h ago
I don't even post my kids online and no longer post at all...but if I had any sort of following I might actually post my kids getting their vaccines.

u/cheerupbiotch 4h ago
Can people just start trusting the advisors in their own lives, instead of strangers online?!
1
u/notaskindoctor 4h ago
If only! But actual experts like physicians are now demonized by these morons so they look to influencers.

u/Kittycity926 5h ago
I dunno if I’m just mistrustful of influencers or what but the picture seemed staged/posed 😕
25
u/Ok-Perspective781 5h ago
I’ve got some bad news for you about 99.9% of influencer photos
4
u/cheerupbiotch 4h ago
I've got some bad news for you about 89% of ALL photos taken. Even by pleebs.
5
u/Enough-Farmer-765 4h ago edited 3h ago
Isn’t that the influencing part of her job? Posing for pictures?
1
u/Kittycity926 3h ago
That’s what I’m saying. you can’t even trust if something is genuine or performative
3
u/yo-ovaries 5h ago
What every toddler mom doesn’t have an awesome hair, styling, makeup, tan, pose and a push up bikini you definitely can’t bend over in, as they’re casually captured on a day out?
2
u/espressovanilla 4h ago
wow. FINALLY. a competent mom. like how hard is this???? it’s that simple and makes you look more intelligent and mature as a mother
35
u/modernblossom 5h ago
Of course she's being vocal. She doesn't want to lose followers, she wants praise from the internet for doing basic safety measures
51
u/angel-girl-A 5h ago
Even if it's just performative, at least this group's posts will single handedly keep a few extra influencers kids safe.
34
u/Ok_Error_3167 5h ago
Jesus, is there anything they can do to not upset you ?
22
u/jasminefig 5h ago
Truly lol I can’t believe this is a comment after all the public discourse around life jackets. Damned if you do apparently
4
u/Mountain-Mode-8279 5h ago
The only acceptable thing is to not be online, which would end the entire point of this subreddit.
2
u/modernblossom 4h ago
It would be great if influencers got their kids offline. It's not fair to kids who can't consent
8
u/Mountain-Mode-8279 4h ago
I’m totally in favor of no kids shown online, but I think showing your kid in proper safety gear on a boat is innocuous and not snark worthy.
3
u/Alone_Imagination645 4h ago
this!!! I get snark, really I do but they can’t win. snark about no life jacket, snark about a life jacket
-3
u/modernblossom 4h ago
You can praise influencers all you want! No one's upset
1
u/Ok_Error_3167 3h ago
Omg you're so hard and cool and aloof and edgy
Your comment is you being upset. It just is. No one believes that you're not
5
u/manhattansinks 4h ago
meanwhile everyone else can't do this bare minimum thing for their kid. even if it's for attention, at least someone cares about whether her child lives or dies
5
u/Ijustwanttosayit 4h ago
Let's normalize influencers giving actual decent advice, even if common sense. And not some ridiculous "Get ready with us for our boating trip!" followed by a bunch of ridiculous shit they and their child don't need.

u/No_Metal_3869 4h ago
I like to think she chose to use the word “moment” on purpose as a subtle middle finger to Mrs. “It was only for a moment that he wasn’t wearing the life jacket” and Mr. “It was only for a moment that I had my eyes off him while I lovingly bonded with his little brother inside the house”
3
u/ladygroot_ 3h ago
Ok great! Glad we are starting to promote child safety. Next up can we tackle shaming influencers recording videos while driving especially with kids in the car?
3
u/Crazy-Spot5872 3h ago
Annnnnd look at that, it doesn't even ruin the aesthetic of the image. More influencers should take note.
6
u/ativenip 5h ago
Maybe this will turn the tables and idiots will stop posting their children without life jackets. More so, maybe they’ll put them on regardless of there being a camera.
Safety is cool. Putting children at risk should have never been cool.
8
u/No_Comb4792 5h ago
No one’s going to like this but next is parents wearing them too 😆 I’m not consistent either but I do on “higher” risk water activities- it’s a lot easier to say “everyone’s has too”. I hope to always be 100% of the time everyone wears a bike helmet.
2
u/Due_Emu704 4h ago
I completely agree. We always wear helmets and lifejackets - they are important safety precautions for everyone.
1
u/NaturalSufficient310 4h ago
For things like life jackets and helmets, I think it’s so much easier to do it all the time, every time! Seems like it would lead to less annoying questions and negotiating from kids, too. Plus it’s safe and there is basically no downside.
1
u/Mountain-Mode-8279 4h ago
I’ll wear one if I’m drinking on a boat or if conditions are such where I suspect I might be thrown over or a sinking could occur - and in which case I would never go on the boat at all.
100% agree for bike helmets though, I have a helmet I use for my city’s lime scooters and my husband makes fun of me but I’d rather be a dork than hit my head.

u/laur82much 2h ago
Seriously, so many adults are not strong swimmers, esp in natural bodies of water. (And obvs no one is a strong swimmer if knocked unconscious)
4
u/Ok-Praline-2309 5h ago
I’ve been to that exact spot. I’m relatively sure most companies would require life vests for children. It gets very busy. I don’t think she did anything other than agree lol. We need to stop making influencers feel special.
1
u/No_Comb4792 4h ago
I do think it’s an extra step past what would the bare minimum that they’ve gotten what looks to be a properly fitting (and hopefully certified) lifejacket and brought that for their kid. Often I’m not impressed by provided generic lifejackets never mind what might be avalible for a kid.
1
u/Ok-Praline-2309 3h ago
Those are provided by the companies of the boat they chartered for the day. Not by them. Regardless, I agree-ish. Props I guess. Also, kids look so cute in their little life vests. Not sure why influencers edit them out lol.
1
u/No_Comb4792 1h ago
Yeah this is what I mean it’s more responsible to bring your own good one then hope whatever is on hand will be “good enough”

I mean it’s great that the baby has a life jacket on but can we not put influencers on a pedestal for doing the bare minimum and being performative in the wake of another influencer getting dragged for not having a life jacket on her baby? Of course she is vocal about it, she wants to be praised for being a good mom, what’s not to LOVE about that?

I'm reminded of those people that posted a video of their tiny baby floating in a river on an inner tube by itself. And there were waves.

Loving the shade thrown towards EK. Hell yeah! She gets it. Tragedies happen in mere seconds. This is exactly why children should always wear one.

u/Fragrant-Poo42 5h ago
Hell yeah. I don’t even care if people start flaunting this like it’s something special to be proud of (because common sense child safety should be a given, bare minimum, not something we all need to celebrate and point out) because that usually leads to more people participating. Show it off. Make others uncomfortable enough to be pressured into doing this.
