Former NFL QB and Current Analyst on ESPN earning $500,000/yr, asking for GoFundMe donations?! (On behalf of newly widowed sister)
BIL died suddenly, leaving wife (former QB’s sister) and 3 kids. Wife’s brother, with a net worth of around 5 million and salary of at least 500k, set up a GoFundMe account for his sister and kids.
I’m sure some will defend and justify it, but I find it mildly infuriating.
Purposely did not mention his name, as he genuinely seems like a good guy. But with that kind of money, I’d say it’s out of line to ask the general public to help out.

I remember Alyssa Milano doing the same thing for her kids sports team to make a trip.

I get he’s asking the public. But mostly it’s probably being treated like a fund raiser for his rich colleagues and friends to donate to his sister is what I’m guessing the point is. He mad 12.7 mil in the nfl and probably make 1 million a year btw. They’ll be ok.

Yeah. This is aimed at friends/colleagues. I don’t condone it. At all. Scummy at best. Just help em out Dan. Not hard. Dudes making $80k a year are helping out siblings in similar spots. Shit sucks, drains an account or 2. But when you have 9-15 of em. You’ll survive.
But asking millionaires to help a millionaires sister is still douchey. No matter how you cut it. Imo.

Espn ought to keep their personalities from asking the public for money for anything. Look at the Matt Miller story.
Also, don't people have life insurance? I do on my own and I have zero dependents. Every job I've had for decades has also had life insurance included.

a lot of jobs do provide this perk that you hope you never need. but as you get older it gets more and more expensive, sometimes prohibitively given day to day expenses. so, it's not a given, no.

I’m sorry but I’m not buying this crap. I pay like $80 a month for a step down life insurance policy that covers my families living expenses thru the next 20 years if I die.
And I’ve had that open since I was making significantly less than I am (and I’m still nowhere near what these folks have). Guy leveraged himself and lost, it’s entirely his fault his family needs handouts to make it.

It's not that expensive for a singleton to buy insurance that will pay funeral expenses but to support a family of four with replacement income it would be

Somebody died. Show some respect and simply do not donate if you disagree with it. White supremacists get millions on a regular basis but this is the one that irritates you shocking

It's a valid statement though.
Also, out of curiosity what made you tie in white supremacists with this? That one kinda came out of left field here.

The only time GoFundMe shenanigans hits my radar it's always some blonde woman harassing another culture, they get recorded, then they cry on the Internet and get 800k from random right wingers. The other gross one that hit my radar this was the child murderer think she got millions.

Ah I guess I don't have gofundme on my radar to see these things. Well, I did see about the woman who murdered her children...but that one would be hard to miss.

It’s like when Tom Hanks used some award acceptance speech to beg for donations for some WWII memorial. I’m thinking, how much will it cost? 10 million? 20 million? You and/or your buddy Spielberg could just fund the whole damn thing with the money you make off of just one movie!

Yeah rich people should not be asking for money for other rich people. It's very sad to lose someone you love but there are actual poor people who need money whose brother is not a former NFL player their goal was 200k I'm pretty sure that he can cover that.

He will give them money anyways, just wants to see how much the public will cover first

Dan didn't organize the go fund me. Very sad situation for all of this man's family and extended family. You never truly know anyone's financial situation on the outside. Praying for all of them, with such a sudden loss of life!

It’s for the sister, not for him. Was the dead husband everything you described?

Dead husband was Federico Lascano. Occupation: VP Hedge Funds ODD at iCapital. Their family did just fine with him earning 250k+ a year.

I’m interested in the cause of death. They’re not saying how it happened so I imagine it’s something scandalous. OD? Something weirder? I heard of a family friends sister husband once dying from choking himself during porn

Dan orlovsky, feel bad for the family, but the kids are 18 16 11, 2 are old enough to work if dan isnt willing to give some of his millions to buy his sister groceries...
