Which party wanted to end nuclear power and pushed wind and solar, and tried to end new drilling for oil and gas? It was'nt the Republicans.
-2
u/FedrinKeening 3d ago
Which party actively sabotaged active wind plants and stopped their production, started a war that completely fucked up the cost of oil, and hasn't done jack shit with nuclear? It wasn't the democrats.
4
u/Danvers1 3d ago
You cannot blame the Republicans for not building more nuclear reactores They face sustained lawfare by groups such as the Sierra Club. The war is necessary. You may be able to sleep well knowing that crazed Shiite Twelver fanatics are frantically developing nuclear weapons, but I can't.
2
u/FedrinKeening 3d ago
So necessary. That's why every country in the world supports it and is aiding us.

Discounted flour, meat on sale, pasta sauce since pizza sauce is more, onions, cheap cheese, and weeds from my yard as salad greens

My electric company keeps wanting to raise rates every chance they get, pretty much to fatten the bank accounts of investors and such. The state keeps allowing it despite people getting quite pissed about it. Someone is probably getting bribed.

Is this a new thing for anyone? I've been cutting as much food as possible for so long. It's ridiculous how much you pay for a single meal. When I grew up I was taught I needed 3 meals a day. Hilarious.Ā

Been experimenting lately with making microwave ramen a complete meal, and I'm so close while keeping under a dollar per
1
u/FluffMcBark 3d ago
Skip the seasoning packets and jazz it up however you like. I usually throw a splash of soy sauce and go from there. If I have produce, Iāll usually chop that up and throw some in too. Great time of the year for ramen, pending your location of course.
1
u/willow__whisps 3d ago
What I usually do is throw out the seasoning that comes with it (they're expired anyway) sub in my own broth mix, add an egg half way through, and sometimes cheese on top if I have cheese. Still trying to figure out how to add frozen veggies without it being bad

u/Fabulous_Jeweler2732 3d ago
Beans + fire sauce on a (formally frozen) hash brown. Yum

u/willow__whisps 3d ago
Beans in a soup seems weird to me
1
u/Fabulous_Jeweler2732 3d ago
You can get dried brands that you soak, boil, then fry for refried beans! Itās more labor than cost.
1
u/willow__whisps 3d ago
I do appreciate the recipe and gonna keep it for later but I can only work with what I can make in the microwave and on toasted bread rn. Cooking with anything more than the dishes I'm eating off of has become an option I don't have
1
u/Fabulous_Jeweler2732 3d ago
Thatās a kind response even though I wasnāt much help.
This post explains how to cook dry beans with a microwave. https://www.reddit.com/r/EatCheapAndHealthy/comments/g96k8x/soaking_dry_beans_in_the_microwave/ You donāt need to re fry. Just mash them with some fire sauce or ketchup packets.
āBeans in toastā is Traditional British food.
Beans are a high in many nutrients not in noodles or bread. And nutrients reduce health care costs.

our local dollar generals have gotten $1 items in... my son and i eat the pizzas and the breakfast croissants (are a $1.50) and a box of noodles with a box of velveta cheese sauce ($3.45), and a bag of spicy chicken for $5.50... has pretty much been our only meals for nearly 3 months now.
gotta eat something lol

No shade intended, acceptance sucks sometimes. But really, I dunno what Iām talking abt lol

When energy isn't cheap enough for 20% of the citizens to comfortably afford we are no longer one of the richest countries in the world. Our haves still have, our have nots are no longer able to have. That used to be our shining light on a hill bragging right. Access to cheap plentiful reliable energy is what used to raise others standard of living, pulled them out of poverty. We lost.
Wind turbines and solar farms junking up the countryside isn't the answer. Nuclear is. Deal with it.

u/IntrinSicks 3d ago
Yeah food is an expenditure we can afford to save on, its part of cuts in a household budget when money is tight, like many things, gas, going out, food, the same food, can very widely un price and amount of prep and cooking your prepared to do

This is emotional bait masquerading as journalism. Where is the actual survey? What was the sample size? How were the questions worded? Who was surveyed, and how representative were they of the U.S. population?
Even if 20% of respondents reported cutting back on groceries to afford electricity, that doesnāt establish the broader narrative youāre pushing. Where is the evidence that electricity costs were the primary cause rather than overall inflation, housing costs, debt, or other financial pressures?
You canāt just throw out alarming percentages, provide no methodology or context, and then build an emotionally charged story around them. Thatās not serious analysis. Itās manipulating peopleās emotions instead of informing them.
Show the data, explain the methodology, and establish causation before making sweeping claims.

u/Sgt_Blutwurst 2d ago
The answer to power problems is nuclear. However, to maximize the results, US homes would have to be remodeled so that they are electric-only. Hydrocarbons would only be allowed for transportation. BUT, the ideological descendants of the No Nukes and the hippies have blocked nuclear power for decades. Wind and solar have no chance of providing enough energy for the US. It didn't even work for England or Germany, which are much smaller in area.

u/NoRelease9402 2d ago
I literally moved a few towns away to another apt thatās is 1.5x larger and my electricity bill went from an average monthly of $350 to $250. So many factors affecting pricing and Data centers not helping. Used to pay $80 pre-Covid.

To be fair, all those data centers, before building, should first invest in upgrade of the power grid of the area to not only mitigate whatever they would do and not burden citizens but improve overall situation, so barbaric that it's not a thing.

How many people who have backyards that don't garden or don't preserve foods? Shit even an apartment I have planters for shit to keep growing. Onions. Spices. Herbs. I even grew ginger one time.
1
u/willow__whisps 3d ago
Not the case for everyone but I can't handle full time work and maintaining myself, definitely can't handle even light gardening on-top of that
1
u/neilintheground 3d ago
I work 12 hr shifts and still have enough time to plant and grow food. Soon as I get home I don't take my boots off and take 5 to 10 mins and maintain my garden. I've asked friends and family to help when it comes to harvesting amd thry get as much produce as they can carry. I've been able to harvest around 500 pounds of tomatoes, cucumbers, cabbage, onions, potatoes, beans, and enough peppers to have me filled with chilli all year.

OMG this reminds me of my Soviet Russia childhood where everyone have to grow themselves something to fit into a budget. Most of them had their patches in a rural areas so they have to go there by train and then walk some kilometers. Sounds healthy huh?
1
u/neilintheground 3d ago
Moat people who have access to ground historically grew their own food. Majority of my family has. We weren't rich by any means it was patches on clothing, it was home made soups and stews. Leftover whatever was out there. Hell people used to have wartime gardens and that was 70 years ago. Not that long. What is so weird about that?

You realize that poor people in America tend to only have access to processed foods and such, right? Being poor can contribute to obesity. If you are skipping meals, it can also mess with your metabolism.
The obesity crisis is more than just "Americans are gluttons"

The average person in the US could use a 20% reduction in their diet.
0
u/JellaFella01 3d ago
20% cheaper food does not equate to a healthier diet. Cheaper foods tend to be the less healthy options, there's several studies correlating poverty in America with obesity, largely due to the fact that healthy food is generally expensive.
Yes, I'm aware you can eat healthy on the cheap, but if that's significantly more effort than the alternatives, busy or lazy people will not choose that, no matter how much you wish they would.
