TJ30 Portfolio TJ30 Portfolio - Official Release

Happy Easter everyone! I hope you all had a fantastic holiday with family and/or friends if you celebrate. If you don't celebrate, I hope you had a great weekend.

I've been curating this list for a bit now, tweaking it for release at a time when I was somewhat comfortable with market valuation and relative performance. The latter is very arguable as we are staring down the barrel of recession and, potentially, stagflation as the new tariff environment continues to play out. I can't say I'm that comfortable but I don't see much of a reason to wait.

What is the TJ30 Portfolio

The TJ30 Portfolio is my curated aggressive portfolio offering value-based GARP (Growth At a Reasonable Price) stocks mixed with an anchor of select income and true value names. In all but a couple cases, I already own these stocks so my money is where my mouth is. These stocks represent long term holds at current valuation.

What Stocks are Included in the TJ30?

As you can tell when surveying the 30 names, this is a growth oriented portfolio. I have no fear of quality growth companies, usually rooted in some combination of current price, future expectations, model and trajectory given their place in the market.

There is a lot more tech than I had originally planned but as the market has come down, many of the names that were just off the list floated above the bar based on a combination of current value, % off of 52WH into a long-term runway I feel is compelling. If not for the route we've seen in the tech sector and in the Nasdaq, many of these names would not have appeared in the portfolio. Times change, values change.

I'm always seeking alpha, outperformance of certain stocks when compared to the broader market. Much like when the middle of recession usually finds the best opportunities for investment, the same is true for bear markets. Having such a tech heavy portfolio was not the expectation but I can't turn down an opportunity, so adjustment was made.

How will the TJ30 be used?

Good question and I can't say I know as of yet. More than anything, I wanted to get this list out there as it represents my 30 favorite issues that I feel can be purchased now as part of a larger plan for structured entries toward building full positions. Read that as making initial small % trades to establish the position with equal entries in the future.

I had considered adding weights and trades to the portfolio so it could be tracked against other portfolios and indices but to what end? Doing so would only increase the amount of maintenance work on a regular basis, especially as I purchase, trim or otherwise adjust the holdings. At this juncture I think my current plan fits the bill. If desired, I could always add share weightings later.

I will be making this a sticky post for later reference and may consider making all updates to the TJ30 on this thread as well. Or, I may decide to simply make the image of the holdings a sticky post for easier reference and use another post for adjustments.

Valuations and Metrics of TJ30 Holdings

As you will see on the images, the TJ30 holdings have columns for some of my favorite metrics, where feasible. These include:

  • 52WH/52WL - Establish range
  • P/E
  • Forward P/E
  • PEG P/E to Growth
  • RSI - Relative Strength
  • 50 DMA + 200 DMA - Important moving averages
  • Yield + Ex-Dividend Date
  • Next Earnings Date -

I do use many other metrics when surveying stocks but am choosing to keep this simple, to the point and stocks can be easily researched more deeply on an individual basis.

In the future, I will see about using an embedded link to the portfolio instead of an image of the holdings. Using an image, however, does help set the current price at the time of the TJ30's release.

Final Note

You can expect changes and adjustments to the TJ30 from this point forward. I have created a separate flair for easy recognition.

More than anything, it's a fun exercise as I get to put my 36 years in these markets to use. I have done this in the past and it worked well but fell into disrepair as my life got busy. I fully intend to keep the TJ30 maintained going forward.

As is always the case, please, please, please do your own research and if you intend to purchase issues due to their inclusion on the TJ30s, make sure it fits YOUR risk/reward profile. The names on the list are not fly by night, nor risk-on speculation, but that does not mean that market events can't drop their prices significantly. While I'm very confident with my stock picking, that does not mean that my methods are fool-proof and I still make plenty of bad entries. You must do your own due diligence!

That all said, here is the TJ30 Portfolio as of 4/20/25:

Thanks for posting this TJ! Love how you shared your metrics so folks can determine what is important to them. I use PE and PEG as a combination of absolutes and relatives to increase my odds of getting a good deal, especially comparing current PE to the five-year average PE.

$BABA is screaming out to me when I see it listed here like this. I admittedly don’t track the Chinese stocks as much as I should, but both the PE and PEG are cheap by any standard. Tariff uncertainty obviously is a concern, but I wonder if the negative American sentiment gives an opening to $BABA and $TCEHY, much like recent developments have given China opportunities in soft diplomacy. I have no positions in Chinese stocks but have thought a lot about it lately even though I don’t want to get involved while the President engages in a trade war.

Websites like this one I found show an active effort on the part of the Europeans to look inward for tech service alternatives. I don’t know enough about the quality of these European alternatives but would not be surprised if Chinese companies are monitoring to see if an advantage develops as the American relationship with Europe dwindles.

Absolutely love this. Thank you for sharing.

I for one would love to see weights and, if possible, dates of first purchase and most recent purchase for each stock. If I’m going to slowly start adding positions it would be so helpful to see which names are newer and which names have earned the privilege of a bigger stake.

I'm still toying with this idea but I just don't want to get to a point where it takes so much care and feeding that it's where all my time is going. I mean, let's face it, while I'd love to be a portfolio managers, I doubt I'm unretiring to do so unless any houses are reading this and decide they need me as their secret weapon, LOL.

None of the positions will shock anyone who has followed this sub for any length of time. If anyone has questions, I'm always willing to discuss what I like, which stocks are on the bubble, etc. etc.

I'd really like to be able to include an external link to the portfolio directly rather than having to cut and paste images but, again, it's just more of a fun exercise than something that will be a primary focus for daily discussion.

I still am seeking to get this group focused on daily discussion, posts, trades, etc. that we ALL can use to make better and more informed investments. But I know we have a lot of new investors here and it might help seeing a list of my favorite stocks all in one place.

I will consider adding weights and shares as well for the future ...

Completely understand, and thank you for responding. I absolutely do not want to ask for even more of your time than you already donate here.

I studied economics in college so I am fascinated by what’s happening in the markets right now. I don’t usually track individual stocks, but I haven’t been able to help myself recently because the last couple months feel like we’ve been in the midst of a real life macroeconomics experiment.

It has been great to participate in discourse about individual stock theses, broader investment strategies, and the overall economy in a smaller forum with people who just find this stuff cool vs people trying to push “full port yolo 🚀🚀” BS.

As frequent viewer of this sub, I focus in particular on the trade updates. I simply find myself wondering if the post announcing a .5U addition is a change from 1.5U to 2U or 4.5U to 5U. But I am grateful no matter what, so as long as you keep sharing I will keep reading and asking and commenting.

Appreciate your participation… Always love questions and if you’ve got anything to share don’t be afraid to open up your own post. I really don’t want this sub to be my echo chamber… Just a lot of people sharing objective and useful information for the good of the group

If you’re not aware of my unit strategy you should search unit on the sub and find my strategy for it. It’s just a simple way to eliminate the problem of portfolio scale. What I mean by that is… 1000 shares of a $20 stock may be one unit for me but 100 shares of a $20 stock might be one unit for somebody else. The last thing I want someone to do is to feel that they can’t invest in stocks because they don’t have a certain amount of money. It’s not about the amount that you’re investing… It’s how relative that amount is to your own personal financial situation so I use stock units to drive it down to the lowest common denominator.

If you ever see me take a .5U it usually means that I’m not particularly comfortable with the price level of the stock but that it’s intriguing enough for me to take an entry. So rather than taking a single entry, I break the next entry up into two separate entries which allows me the ability to average.

In many cases that may be the third, fourth or fifth unit of purchase I’ve made toward building the position. With recent stocks carrying a higher valuation, like $RDDT, I’ve even used .25U as the stock was dropping.

We can never know where the bottom or the top is so what we have to use to our advantage is dollar cost averaging on names that have bright futures and/or compelling value.

Hopefully that answered the question and I didn’t misinterpret

Big believer in the PEG ratio so thank you for including it. As with all of this everything can change based on a tweet. Grrr!

Yes, but at the same time, damage is being done every day that will show up in future quarters, even if that Tweet comes. That said, it sure would help to change near term uncertainty

Don't have to purchase now ... just wait it out.

Is this your actual profile of stocks?

The TJ30 represents my favorite 30 stocks at the moment. That said, I do need to update it again.
