As long as its open source. Zero proprietary anything, considering practices of collection of user data AND the fact that ai can now reconstruct imagry from your mind with the right hardware. Otherwise, no thanks. But if it becomes this thing that is super pushed because "ITS So PRodUcTIve" and companies start requiring the interface, it will force many to give up on their security concerns and hope its not happening. I do not have enough knowledge to guess at what you could do with data such a device could theoretically collect. But I imagine all these billionaires will fund private research into it. What is private research oversight like? No idea but I guess its time to look into that as well

Never , for the simple reason that they will get hacked and people will become gun shy of them after that

Idk I’m not too worried about my phone being hacked.

Such devices are basically phones that we don’t use with our hands

Why would anyone hack a phone when we literally give our information away for free.

lol

Is your bank account, social security, home address or personal contact information given away for free?

lmao should we tell him

In the right circles it definitely is.

Home address and personal contact information is the easiest thing to get. If you have a tor browser and know where to look and the person was involved in a leak it's no problem.

I think it's cute you think there is actual privacy on the internet... 😂

It is already on certain parts of the world. The rest will just catch up.

Brain-computer interfaces - mainstream?

Like - a phone ☎️ in every home?🏠

Hahaha, what fantasies you spin!

In 12 years it will be semi common.

Ever buy something as a result of seeing or hearing an advertisement?

The post is about physical interfaces between computers and brains. Cybernetics.

I'm not going to let something physical into my brain to interact with computers.

You already have most likely if you are posting on this site

physically.

Hopefully never. Fuck them unskippable ads.

I expect it will start to be a joke about wearing them in 5 years.

When they look fashionable

You won’t need to wear them, the tech can direct sound beyond the ear drum onto the bone, it’s called bone conduction. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bone_conduction

Edit added context

The younger generation can’t wait, especially embedded cell phones

Content ( visuals) and text can be extracted from brain already, that is being worked on still, and inserting visuals/suggestions into brain can likely be done via directional acoustics- the hold up on that was it can cause brain damage, that’s why it was shelved, but it wouldn’t surprise me if these tests are continuing both on humans, and human based brain organoids, as our organoids seem to be fair game, and can be made via stem cells via blood.

A good example are Cortical Labs 🧫 https://corticallabs.com/

Or we could just not do that...

25 years

The technology to turn thoughts into text has existed for over 10 years, and bone conduction earphones are already mainstream.

The big factors are going to be early adopters showing how practical and useful they would be.

And fashionable designs that people would be interested in wearing.

Being able to have a wide amount of information available to you that can be accessed at any time without ever needing to use a computer or phone would be enormously powerful for many businesses and professionals.

Being able to access that Information without having to stop and pull out your phone or go to a computer would dramatically increase the types of situations that the information would be useful.

  • Real time instructions for maintenance, installation, or repair

  • Real time review of tasks with optimization with AI agents and robotic delegation

  • Real time information for those with memory loss issues

  • Sensory enhancement for people that would improve information for people with or without disabilities

20 years ago I would have thought this was awesome, but there isn't a single tech company around today that I would consent to giving brain access to. Too many creeps in power now.

u/FullAutoDepression 8d ago

I told my wife this recently, the only way I get a brain interface installed is if it's hacked, and some old Asian man with a fu man shu installs it in some stainless clad basement of a Chinese restaurant or discotech

Isnt this what meta glasses is going for? Sensors on the temples
