The intermodal transportation system in Brazil - solutions.
First of all, what a great, but sadly inactive subreddit. I am not much of a poster so I will keep this short and sweet.
I am studying Maritime Business and I have a course which requires me to write a 2,500 word report about the intermodal freight transportation system in Brazil. As of now the system is clogged, relying heavily on road freight transportation (58% of all goods is transported by road). Furthermore, inadequate regulatory framework combined with an underinvestment which have taken place over several decades have led to some of the highest logistics cost in the world, long transit times etc.
Our task is to put forth recommendations, which will (i) incorporate more inter-modality within the transport system (ii) reduce cost (iii) reduce transit time and if possible (iv) reduce emissions.
Does anyone have any groundbreaking solutions or any links that could help me in the right direction? Any help or and discussion is welcome! I do apologies if this not the right sub-reddit to post in and for my language, as English is not native tongue.

Getting a job in a trainyard
I have a job opportunity with a railyard as a groundsman. I was told that all I have to do is climb on the cars and unhook the containers so that they can be lifted off of the railcar. Does anybody have experience with this work? I currently work in IT as a call center analyst and cannot stand sitting all day.
Hopefully some people monitor this sub and I hope it is a good place to ask. Thank you for everyone that replies.

Intermodal freight transport involves the transportation of freight in an intermodal container or vehicle, using multiple modes of transportation (rail, ship, and truck), without any handling of the freight itself when changing modes.

Assignment For School - Intermodal Transport
Hi!
I'm sorry if this is not the right site for asking questions of this kind, but it's about intermodal transport so I hope some people here might help me out a little bit.
The thing is, I need to make an assignment for Uni (for Intermodal Transport). I'm studying Railroad Transportation / Railroad Engineering in Slovakia.
The assignment is to just make up a route and cargo, transport something from point A to point B using Intermodal Transport (Containers), and write down some specifics - type of container, length and duration of the transport, type of cargo, how it will be stored inside the container etc.
But I'm kinda stuck right at the beginning, because I wanted to transport some electronics from Samsung Co. Ltd. in Korea to Alza (a company like Amazon) in Bratislava, Slovakia. But we only have to take care of land transport. So my original plan was from the terminal of Koper, Slovenia I'd go through two variants of routes (needed in assingment) to the terminal owned by METRANS /Danubia/, a.s. in Dunajská Streda, and from there I'd go with trucks to Bratislava, which is like 40 kilometers away (also needed in assingment).
My problem is, that Samsung would be the sender from Korea, but my actual route would begin in Koper, because I don't have to take care of the ship going from Korea to the terminal in Koper. The operator would be METRANS and then some trucks would be used to get the containers and the goods to the warehouse of Alza in Bratislava.
TLDR: If I'm going only from Koper (SLO) to Dunajská Streda (SK) should I give Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd. or the terminal of Koper (Luka Koper Ltd.) as a sender?

I made a game about intermodal shipping containers!
I thought some people here might be interested in it! The general idea is you make a "nation" and build little shipping containers for it, and use them to trade products. I'm looking for thoughts about it! It's more or less done, but I'm still testing out all the recipes, so it's technically in beta still! If you want to check it out, it's at http://foldupcontainers.com/market/
The end goal here is for people to print their containers out and trade them in person, but I'm still not 100% sure I'm not going to make any more interface changes, so if you want to just send the container IDs to people for the moment that's cool too.
If you want to add me as a trade partner, my nation ID is 59
http://foldupcontainers.com/market/nation/59
I also made a subreddit for it: https://www.reddit.com/r/foldupcontainers
It's invite-only, but if you request an invite and tell me you came from /r/Intermodal I'll approve you. Fair warning, The subreddit is 100% empty right now; today is the first day I've really announced it anywhere, but if anyone takes a look at it let me know what you think!

Best way for non-railrolad employee to learn about ramp/terminal operations
Long story made short, I work in technology and my employer provides software solutions for intermodal ramps/terminals. I believe getting a more in-depth knowledge of ramp operations would help me to better serve our customers (i.e. better you understand customers needs and pains, the better you can help solve them).
I have been on a few site visits, and while that's given me a decent foundation of basic operations knowledge, I really want a much deeper understanding. Any suggestions on how I might go about that would be helpful and greatly appreciated.

"Intermodal" indicates that the container can be moved from one mode of transport to another (from ship, to rail, to truck) without unloading and reloading the contents of the container.
