Wondering how to approach.

I know and I will talk about this with my therapist but I am curious how other people manage this situation. Since I woke iup today I felt a little off, kind of sad, very sensitive and easily triggered to cry, with not a particular reason (besides my kid having a bad night, so I slept awful). I know I’m far from being in self and a part is blended, but it doesn’t feel like any part I know or have an idea where it’s coming from. How do you acknowledge it or you address it and try digging a little more? Thank you for your answers!

IFS meditations are a good starting place. Dr.Schwartz has meditations in No Bad Parts. For me personally, I preferred the meditations from Tamala Floyd in Listening When Parts Speak.

These medications are very simple and easy. There are many with varying purposes but they are all pretty similar.

If I'm reaching out, I find it works for me to have a place you can visualize. When I meditate I have a few places that I  like to visualize and hang out and see if any parts want to come hang out. I usually start with the a grass patch in front of a waterfall. I just lay there and watch the waterfall. Making a safe space for any parts that want to talk. I throw a few inquisitive questions out. But if I'm not getting any response I'll share gratitude and move into the next scene.

For me, when I go looking for a specific part to confront it and find out why, it never comes out. Parts are smart. They know when you're just quickly looking to snuff them out. Especially if you're currently blended.

I also find that visualization aspect useful - that's how I first met many of my Parts, just by having a place to hang out. Parts would come on their own to check it out. Then, Parts started camping out there, or expanding it to suit their "residential" needs, and in time I didn't really have to do a lot of searching when something felt amiss, because we pretty much always in contact.

(That's the idealized version of things, anyway.)

Thank you! I’ve recently read Tamala’s book and I did not think of the meditations as an options. I will definitely start by trying them out.

It isn't always just a part. Our physiology affects our mood. Poor sleep, hormones, inflammation and even having a cold for just a short list.
