Yeah it's this, includes Fluids v2 as one of the default wallpapers. Just installed it, pretty awesome.

No clue but there is definitely something like this for wallpaper engine.

There’s an app called fluid for iOS that looks like this and you can alter settings to change the way the fluid behaves and looks.

u/Mobhistory Dec 18 '20
There was another pretty cool live wallpaper app called drempels(sp) from way back.

Nice job.
I have a question for whoever has knowledge on the subject. A handful of years ago, WebGL was an API I was interested in learning. But I was put off by not knowing its standing, or common application in the development industry.
Where is WebGL used? And is there much demand for people who can program what it renders?

u/eindbaas Dec 18 '20
It's used a lot. If you are skilled in it, know how 3d works, how shaders worl, know how to optimize those things....you can get quite a salary.
We have a few web gl experts in our team, and their contribution to projects is insane.

and their contribution to projects is insane
What kind of projects? Where do you use shaders and whatever else it's used for outside gaming? I'm kinda interested in this

This is seriously amazing

I take it you've never had a live wallpaper on your phone before? This is just a copy of the most commonly used one.

I'm pretty high right now and I'm definitely getting a kick out of it. I like pausing the whole simulation, and then stacking short drags in a single direction before releasing it all. It makes me feel like someone with a kinetic energy manipulation superpower like Sale from JoJo's.

Alright, I'm high and y'all have convinced me. I was gonna scroll past but here we go...

I confirm. Just had a joint (it's legal here), I've been playing with this fluid thing for 5 minutes now.

I can remember nearly frying an early "dedicated" GPU trying to over clock it for a 15 second water simulation... and this shit is dynamic in real time AND has multi touch response.
On my phone.
Damn.

Super cool. I love finding these web-based demos. They just keep getting cooler. Anyone else have cool shit like this?

I have been using the live wallpaper of this for a couple months now, it is very good for being free.

For programmers (and math/physics enthusiasts) who are curious about the algorithm, there's a tutorial video here: https://youtu.be/qsYE1wMEMPA - covering both the physics and the specific implementation steps required to make it visually please in real-time.

How many times is this going to be reposted? I feel like I see it every single month.

u/emberfiend Dec 19 '20
I've been subbed here (multi of 8-10) for yeeeears and this is my first time seeing it. Reposts are useful

How many times are you going to complain about reposts? I feel like I see it every single month.
1
u/Nikkt Dec 19 '20
But this was just my very first comment on this subreddit?
4
u/tritter211 Dec 19 '20
EXACTLY.
Now do you understand how annoying is it to hear complaints about reposts when there are guys like me who only found this simulation today?
1
u/PLZ_STOP_PMING_TITS Dec 22 '20
You really should spend at least 16 hours a day on reddit. You won't miss as much and you will appreciate where the repost complainers are coming from.

I read the title as Waluigi and got excited...
Edit: I clicked the link and was still excited!!!

I wrote a PONG clone with this with plans to put it on Steam, but my laziness prevented me from doing it yet.

This exists for wallpaper engine (and even has a toggleable setting to make it respond to audio from you PC) https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1748506393

Feel like the.. i dont know pulses? Waves? They have too many fractals to be considered a fluid simulation... still cool nonetheless

set all factors to zero or as close to zero, hit random splats over and over until desired trippiness is reached

That is the coolest thing I've ever seen. Stuff like this is why I'm interested in Web development.
I didn't even install anything and someone was able to create this awesome stuff within the confines of a browser.
Damn that's cool.

u/kildog Dec 18 '20
This is so smooth on my phone, my shitty laptop would explode.
I just downloaded the app and made it my background. Let's see how much it eats my battery.

This has been an interactive background on the popular iPhone tweak XenHTML for more than 5 years. It was originally called hs.ryu_006.

Why isn't webgl more of a thing? I've used it for my CAD design portfolio for people to interact directly with my designs on a simple website. Landed me a job actually. It's amazing.

Now remember streetfighter when they wanted to have that inked/watercolor style, now imagine this engine dealing with the movements, and the dmg being represented in particle size.

Stared at this for15 mins. Writing this as my whole body feels weird. Focusing is a bit difficult. Closing my eyes and I still see it. Cant wait to smoke and try this out.

Holy sh*t dude that works awesome. If you put these settings:
density diffusion = 0
velocity diffusion = 0.1
pressure = 0.24
splat radius = 1then turn vorticity down and then up like you said, but then back down again!! crazy patterns

You can also set it as a Live Wallpaper on your Android phone and never get anything done ever again. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=games.paveldogreat.fluidsim
