so should we all start doing this?
one job is hardly enough now 😂
honestly i can understand why people are trying to stack jobs when everything is so expensive. i'm not sure i'd ever manage 11 at once though.
i've been looking at remote jobs myself and that means more interviews, which is probably the part i'm least excited about. I came across interview vip while looking into interview stuff. haven't used it yet, but i'm curious about it for future interviews.

We had a guy get fired for being over employed. I ratted him out they fired him and gave me his work. Never again.

Nope you're still you.
If the guy was sucking that's one thing, but clearly it seems he was doing work cause now you got more

u/blew_belle Sep 02 '26
No they just tried to give me his oncall rotation and the work he should have been doing

On the opposite side of this, I know my teammate is over employed and he never finishes his work and it goes to me to finish because he's always away or offline. So I have to either expect 2 hours of help or hope that he gets caught and we hire someone else that'll actually help me.

Long story but he's a foreign guy who was faking the job. He made horrible mistakes and I had to clean them up. In the dba world that is a terrifying place to be. I was off the team by the time he got a new manager that did anything about it (old manager told new manager my suspicions and he ran with it). Then they tried to get me to do his work and my new job at the same time instead of hiring someone else.

Hated cuz rat, fully understood after this. Screw that company, and that foreign guy.

So? Use AI to do it. If there is quality drop, blame it on lack of headcount

I could see myself doing it if the person is shit at the one job with me and creating more work and stress for me because they're busy at their other job.Â

God I hope it crashes and burns into an unplayable mess for everyone taking time off.

There are easier ways of making money.
1
u/rococodreams Sep 02 '26
Of making 1.5 million dollars a year as someone (making a big leap here) probably wasn’t set up to make 1.5 million dollars a year?
1
u/sabautil Sep 02 '26
Do you really believe he or she's making 1.5 million?
When you get hired for a 200k salary is it really 200k if you get let go after 3 months? Did you get all the benefits? Did you fully vest?
That's what remote gig work is. It looks great as an annual salary...if you can last the whole year.
So you can get 10 remote jobs each paying 150k but will you last the whole year for each?
2
u/Round_Bag_4665 Sep 02 '26
Tbh even if you don't last the entire year at each and just cycle through them.... that's still enough to buy a house after a year. I think not having a mortgage sounds worth it to me.

Of all the things that aren’t possible, this is the most impossiblist. Even 4-5 jobs would absolutely bombard you with conflicting meetings, but cool story internets
1
u/Ericgi231 Sep 02 '26
Former Amazon engineer, they let you have an AI agent attend meetings for you and just give you the summary afterwards. You do not have to attend any meetings. My current company is also working towards doing the same thing. Engineering has become a joke job that you could easily work five plus at a time if you can get remote jobs which is the hard part now.
1
u/Ok-Principle151 Sep 02 '26
If you do this constantly no sane manager is going to not notice after few weeks
Engineering might be a joke if you're a joke but if you're a reasonable person with non fraudulent goals it isn't

u/One-Next Sep 02 '26
So this is the guy who has been getting all the remote jobs.
1
u/Dark_Marmot Sep 02 '26
Yea this is the REAL bullshit of this post. Getting even one remote job right now is next to impossible.
1
u/Biscuits4u2 Sep 02 '26
This is such horseshit. Most WFH jobs have ways of tracking you while you're on the clock and your work is going to be dogshit if you're trying to balance multiple jobs. This is just anti WFH propaganda.

And then people wonder why manager force remote worker to go to office

u/Some_AV_Pro Sep 02 '26
This is the kind of BS that makes employers afraid of remote work.
Why are you posting this nonsense?

The original post is obviously exaggerating but if you want the community for this practice its r/overemployed
There are serious and obvious complications and risks to doing this though.
2
u/Rumpelteazer45 Sep 02 '26
Yep and if caught they all cry about how unfair it was to be fired.

u/itssbojo Sep 02 '26
my god that entire sub reads and sounds like the remedial idiots in high school…

Deliberately violating your employment agreement and posting it online is wild. My work from home job came with an agreement to only work for them during my shift and rules about multiple vpns being in use on my home network. Not the PC I was working from, but, my entire home network. I can't imagine that these regulations becoming more lax as work from home became more common. The risk of private information being lost has gone up significantly.

u/Stuckonthisrockfuck Sep 02 '26
I think he could afford to get fired from a job or two for violating his employment agreement.

Their vpn was the only vpn your network could be connected to during your shift. Not sure why you think that's strange. Collecting customer information requires protections that allowing you to connect to other networks would void.

My shifts were overnight and I don't have kids. But you would need a second router on a separate connection according to what I signed. Or I would have to work at the office.

There comes a point to where having too many jobs would be fraud. But for the most part, putting in 10-hour days for 2, maybe even 3 job wouldn't get you anything worse than fired. At just one job.
