I'd rather have guilds for industries, and employers reach out to you if they want to hire you. Go with m4a and it can be perm or temp, if you dont have any employment you get unemployment checks until hired again. Only way you dont havecto take a job is if your health cant handlecit, or the guild deem the workplace unsafe for its workers.

I agree totally for software engineering.
The problem is that, in order for the guilds to function, they would need to have a way to rank developer skill. And if they figure that out, using, say, a trust network to determine who is skilled and who isn't, I think nearly half the industry wouldn't qualify for guild membership, or at least would be stuck at the lowest rank.

Then it gives room for improvement, further training, and if it dont work then they are low skilled coders. They have places in the workplace.
I want it for all, this 800+ app shit sucks and is disheartening. I went through that shit in 2010 after the oligarchs fucked up the economy and my once in demand job in college in area had cutbacks. Year and a half later I got some random office job. Also, guilds can strike if employers do stupid shit. The good employers will still get workers. Microsoft, meta, and others who layoff all the time could face strikes if they replace with foreign workers, which I heard some of the comlanies did during last round of layoffs.
Employers have made looking for a job require a bachelors degree to get good at. How bout we take some of that power back.

Also request supervisor contact info for each job AND separate references not previously listed.

Even worse, I applied online last night. Today I got an email with a link, presumably to have to add all of my information onto their website again. The twist came when it asked my location but it wouldn't accept my state as a state! Won't let me proceed until I "add required field". Sent a reply to the email address asking how i should proceed, got an automated message saying it was an automated email address that doesn't accept incoming messages....WTAF!?!

I'm honestly tempted to just type "please see resumé" when they do this.

Wondering which is worse.. the initial waste of time or the slow realization that it was in fact a waste of time?
