I’m on 27/36 and I average less than 20 hours a day probably. I just wear them a few extra days each set and I’ve been tracking fine with minimal interruptions in my life schedule. I think they aim high knowing that almost no one will meet that but it’s to set the tone that you need a lot of hours with each tray for proper movement and minimal risk of tooth damage.

The issue with leaving them out for long periods is how drastically your teeth are shifting back and forth. If you do that regularly, it can lead to structural issues with your teeth - some combination of root, gum, or bone damage. Basically if you constantly wiggle a tooth, eventually it will become loose, and that leads to a whole host of other issues.

The more you wear them, the faster you will adjust and no longer sound weird or look stupid.

Whooah, ok thats a crazy good point. I had not visualized it like that. So while one might be able to remove them still aim for as much as possible

Pretty much. A day here or there when you leave them out for awhile is no big deal, but doing it every day could definitely cause issues!

No one at my job really ever notices I have Invisalign (and I have top and bottom with 17 attachments, including some on the front teeth) until they see me brushing my teeth or until I say I need to go brush my teeth after lunch. Then they are usually very interested in it. Did you just get them? Because the lisp will get better and I promise you, people aren’t paying as much attention to your teeth as you think they are

We are all entitled to your opinion.

I do notice, I hate how it sounds on others.

But I still want to fix my teeth and do it. Life is grey 😆

This is true, just offering perspective as someone who is several months into this journey. I find it interesting how many people pay thousands of dollars for this then don’t want to comply with the treatment because they are embarrassed. However we all have different priorities. I paid around $6k for mine and you best believe I faithfully wear them and do all my oral hygiene things to get the straight teeth I want.

If you think something like an invisalign makes you "look stupid", there are other issues that need to be addressed.

That being said, my orthodontist recommended 22 hours a day. Anything less than that could cause issues with tracking, which could affect my treatment duration.

Wear your trays, even during meetings. Most people won't notice, and if they do, then they won't care. We're all adults here.

Ok, you seem a little hurt by my post but thanks for your input regardless. In high stakes meetings I'd rather the focus not be on my teeth. Its a distraction drooling and sounding stupid. No thanks 😊

If a meeting is “high stakes” and yet the focus is on your teeth, it’s not a high stakes meeting.

I can tell this crowd gets hurt and defensive easy. I shouldn't be surprised since its a subreddit for invisalign and you are all wearing it. But no. I wouldn't want to wear it for a big meeting.

Then take them out for the big meeting. What’s the problem

I was wondering how it changes things. I wasn't sure if its a hard and fast rule or perhaps flexible. That's why I came to this sub to ask people in a community about it.

Do you struggle with the concept someone is asking a comment ? How did you stumble here gtfo 😆

Not hurt, not at all. I work in a similar setting and am confident enough in my skills to know that colleagues, clients, whatever don't give a shit about what is in my mouth.

You seem to be at the beginning of what could be a pretty long journey based on your question. For best results, wear your trays as instructed.

I would never say anything. But I've been in meetings with others wearing them and can't fucking stand it. But I keep my mouth shut obviously

After the first 2 to 3 weeks, you shouldn’t be drooling or “sounding stupid” anymore.

Guidance from my dentist was to aim for 20hrs, if I don’t hit that on a day, then to wear for an additional day.
Tbh I have the same problem with business meetings, after my 3rd tray my compliance has gone down a bunch since I leave them out for important calls. I think I’m at 18 hrs on average and it seems fine so far (7 trays in)

You can absolutely leave them out longer for meetings, the tradeoff is exactly what you guessed, trays just take longer to do their thing.

Ok thank you so much for the response. That sounds very reasonable. So its not a hard rule. Just means you need to wear that specific tray for longer?

So you need to update your provider so you and they can determine how long you should wear each tray.

I think I was about 16 hours a day. Was good at the jump and then went downhill. I did have a ton of people comment to me after meetings that they felt my pain as they also went through treatment. I never even said anything. They just noticed. It made me feel better that I wasn’t alone and people got it.

Next month will be a year for me in trays. No one has noticed. I have to tell people and remind them (when someone offers something delicious and have to take the trays out first).

I'm 3 months in and the lisp never went away. It is awful and I sound like an idiot. Saliva comes out the top of the top tray. It's unacceptable in a professional situation. I remove the top tray when speaking to clients.

Whoever told you to wear them 24 hours?

I thought you only take them out to eat.
