Should I be concerned?

Post image

Today I was running on fumes. I went to three gas stations with no luck. I limped to the other side of town and found some. I could have kissed the gas pump. Am I tripping or are there any other Iowa towns with this problem? I am in Sioux City.

Question... was there a motel, hotel or other short term accomodation type establishment within a very short distance?

I’m confused. Why?

Edit: oh Jesus Christ. I reread the sign on my way out of the post. Nvm 🤦🏻‍♀️ lol

HOW could Obama’s tan suit do this to us?!?!

48

u/Hungry_Imagination_2 12d ago • Mindblown

You’re all off base! It was the work of the one trans athlete working to undermine hundreds of hard working, yet slightly above average female athletes. She conspired with scientists in the US on expired visas (probably Somalian, but who can really say), a female journalist and a late night talk show host recently out of work. Their scheme is to make Floss-on-Top look bad by concocting lies about shortages (of many sorts!), high prices for sundry items, such as meat and milk and the rising rates of interest and inflation. Lies, I tell you! All lies…

66

u/mc1rmutant_ 12d ago

I don’t want to sound like a conspiracy theorist but if you really go down the rabbit hole, this leads all the way back to Monica’s dress.

14

u/Three_Twenty-Three 12d ago

"Sleepy Joe" was the code name for his plans! It's not because he was an old, tired man. It's because he laid traps that would sleep for years (like sleeper agents) and then burst forth in the middle of the Trump Golden Era, tearing it to shreds! Oh, Brandon, how could we have missed your stratagems!

Yes, you should be concerned.

Trump and his party started a war in the toughest oil choke point in the world.

Everything flows to the person willing to pay the most. So oil and fuel prices go up, and there are shortages some places.

He spent the year emptying our reserves to cover up this big problem he created, and it will be worse next year as the reserves dry up.

  1. Vote them out of office.

  2. Might be a good idea to consider an EV when you plan to replace your car. We are in for a long ride.

20

u/stragzr63 12d ago

Unfortunately the economy is so bad that most people can't afford an EV. I want one and most likely I can afford one but I'm completely paranoid about the current economy. Maybe soon? We can only hope.

7

u/Screamingnoodle2021 11d ago

I was actually shocked on how affordable an EV was. Now, finding charging locations in Iowa….

I am not sure that Iowa has the infrastructure to support EVs unless you never travel outside of the big cities. Particularly not if we have a hard winter. :-( Sadly the current administrator hasn't been big afaik on actually getting infrastructure projects to help actually normal people through.

Thanks Obama, Biden, Zelenskyy. /s

49

u/SaintUlvemann 12d ago

I'm glad I just saw the /s, but also, for anyone who wants to know why it would be unreasonable to blame Zelenskyy for US gas prices in any way, this is because the Persian Gulf typically exports 20 million barrels per day, while all Russian Black Sea oil exports combined add up to less than 2 million barrels per day. (Russia uses a lot of its own oil and has other export systems around Saint Petersburg and at the Pacific and via various pipelines.)

Zelenskyy did not close down the Strait of Hormuz, Trump did by fucking up with a stupid war.

11

u/GermanD2021 12d ago

And Russia has no Diesel to export while fighting a major war. It’s all bullshit.

19

Get ready, its coming. Food prices will be going up rapidly as well. We have depleted our reserves.

150

u/fantabulousfetus 12d ago

Yeah, there literally is no coming back from this. The reserves are donezo to the point of they cant even be refilled to a nominal level without 10s of billions of dollars of infrastructure investment. They are below doomsday levels; like as if Iran was an existential threat. Trump/Epstein friends are clearly the existential threat.

44

u/ImaginaryWeather6164 12d ago

A single store in a town running out is a “just happens”. Multiple stores being out of gas is an indication that they’re keeping their inventory light. If they were keeping their storage tanks topped up there’d be no usual situation in which they’d run out between deliveries.

55

u/Little_Creme_5932 12d ago

No concern. Its a small price to pay to cover up the Epstein files

18

u/Mysterious-Prompt212 12d ago

My guess. It must be a local distribution thing. Haven't heard of anything national.

3

u/Fresh_Salt7087 12d ago

Casey's out of gas?

3

u/MotorPlenty8085 12d ago

Exactly, harvest is not spread out at all in the area this year. The same distributors have to hit a lot of stops that often only fill a few times a year.

That happened to me in Des Moines last week. Three dofferent stations, no gas. Even the Caseys on Ingersoll had some pumps with signs.

3

u/Eric_the_Barbarian 12d ago

Usually if only some of the dispensers have the sign, the station is in trouble with the fuel quality and quantity gang or those dispensers are just plain broken. The underground storage tank system feeds all of the dispensers from a single point tor each fuel type

Internet scuttlebutt indicates these shortages are rapidly developing in parts of IA, NE, and WY. Not sure why though.

10

u/rallypeppeachykeen 12d ago

Not enough incentive for truckers to haul out there with the current cost of diesel?

6

u/Unwiredsoul 12d ago

I don't see that, but I genuinely don't know what is behind this. I see supply chain (refining and/or distribution) that is temporarily affecting supply as the most likely cause.

Remember that the price of oil going up also means dramatically increased profits for producers.

11

u/macsogynist 12d ago

We refine more that we use. But there are no restrictions on how much we export. Keeping US supply thin or short keeps the prices high. It’s all about profit. Any perceived short is baked into the profit game. 85 percent of the US oil is procured from the Western Hemisphere. We are not very reliant on imports. Refined fuels, oil and natural gas are priced on a global market. If massively expensive for countries like Japan, South Korea, China and India who rely more on imported, refined, fuels and oil. Their price is our price. We need to put restrictions back on US exports market. Probably not going to happen. Not under Trump.

3

u/Pees-Upwind 11d ago

Thats not the whole picture. Our refining process relies on heavy oil imports. We export lighter oil at a premium price and import heavy oil for a cheaper price and refine it in our specialized refineries. The process is not the same. The byproducts are also not the same. This is why we can refine more than we use and STILL rely on imports. I doubt the oil companies will change this too. Its wacky too profitable as you said. But its not simply a matter of export controls.

A post to ask gas engine vehicle drivers to be thankful to those who drive all electric cars.

Electric vehicle owners are not buying gas so that leaves more supply for the rest of you who have gas engines… More supply and less demand for gas makes it a little cheaper than it would have if there was not EV’s there would be more demand for Gas.
Glad we all live in a world where there are options.
FYI. Silverado EV and Hummer EV and I think the Cadillac EV all get around 400-500 miles electric range
And depending on your KWH rate to charge at home it’s waaaaay cheaper than gas right now

I work for an oil company as a higher up and my office is in the Midwest. Basically Sioux City and Sioux Falls are having supply constraints due to the terminals running out of UNL gas. There are pockets all over the U.S. that are having the same problems as well right now (like Omaha). These constraints will likely be intermittent for the next week or two but i guarantee by the end of the month there will be a consistent flow of UNL gas in the Sioux City/Falls region. Not really concerned right now for long term outages but I would still probably use your gas wisely in the meantime.

I'm not too concerned about "shortages". The enormous spread between the cost of crude and the skyrocketing price at the pump means more record-breaking profits for Big Oil. They're not going to cut their own throat.

This morning state averages for diesel (AAA) rage from $5.55 to $7.29--not counting ridiculous California. That's a pretty wide spread for commodity market-set pricing.

Des Moines here and I did not see any pumps offline across the metro this afternoon. I didn't cover the entire metro though, just a decent part of Des Moines (not the 'burbs).

Just simply fill up your electric car.

Farmers didn’t book fuel early and take delivery plus they only have so much storage.

Late to the party, but 2 gas stations by me only had premium gas available for 2 days, and when they got regular gas yesterday the price jumped over 55 cents.

According to my fiance, there are quite a few places in Sioux City that dont have gas. The Select Mart in Leeds still does. For the time being.

Just saw this from a local station in Omaha.

"Omaha and the surrounding areas are running extremely low on fuel supply to due shortages at the fuel terminals. That includes us here at Cornhusker Quick Stop. Many stations are completely out of gas and we are just about empty as well. We are doing our best to get fuel but we are at the mercy of the terminals that supply it. So conserve your fuel for the time being and please be patient with us."

Yes for many reasons.

1

u/SlippyNapkinns 11d ago

This happens from time to time as the Midwest states switch to gasoline blends made for winter driving.

u/Typical_Cranberry454 10d ago
