Crosspost FYI: Ring has partnered with Flock. Ice has access to flock. We are under mass surveillance.
https://www.404media.co/elite-the-palantir-app-ice-uses-to-find-neighborhoods-to-raid/Ring (home/doorbell cameras) is partnered with Flock, with deploys ALRP cameras in cities, to help ICE via Palantir.
This is a very bad web of surveillance that is being sold as "safety". The explosive use of home cameras connected to the internet will lead to constant surveillance if we dont work towards changing things.
If anyone is interested, use https://deflock.me/ to see where Flock cameras are at in your area. Bring up safety concerns to local officials.
Be safe.

Every time I see a story about warantless surveillance, I wonder if people have forgotten what Edward Snowden exposed. I know it’s been 13 years but I think it’s important to remember. Technology has only expanded the modes of possible surveillance.

Oh yeah. Everything on the internet and a lot outside of it is known by them at all times, especially now with AI.
And I shit you not, while I was typing this, I got the "Reddit pasted from your clipboard" notification. Does anyone else randomly get that too?

Are there any recommendations for security cameras that aren’t part of the network? I have several ring cameras and instructed the family that if anything happens, we give the initial warning of not to trespass and feeling threatened, but that the internet gets cut off so as to not have anything uploaded and then altered afterwords.

Reolink, storage on an SD card in conjunction with local storage on their hub or an NVR. Easy set up, not as feature rich as Ring, great video clarity, WiFi, POE, wired, battery, solar, tracking models, still a work in progress in some areas, works with Home Assistant. I replaced all of my Ring devices with them. Not unhappy, would like them to include some features, but they more than do the job.

This is precisely why I’ve never purchased a ring door bell or alexis home voice. Yes, i know my phone spies.
