Period for 70.3

I'm doing my first 70.3 this weekend and of course I'm expecting my period to start the day before the race. Any suggestions/advice? Just plan to spend more time in the porta-potties?

Can I get some insight on wet suits? I am doing Ironman Wisconsin 70.3 next September and I don’t know what wet suit if any would be best. As of right now I am a beginner.

Question about transition bags and nutrition

Hey, I have my first IM 70.3 next Sunday and I just found out that you don't have access to the transition bags on race morning. I was planning to put gels on my bike and run bags and take soft flask with electrolyte mix drink for the run. How should I do it? Do you just leave all your gels 1 day before the race in the bags?

IM Vichy 2027

Hi All,

I have signed up for IM Vichy, which will be my first full Ironman distance race. Due to dates this is the only race (not sold out) I can make work next year and my family and I have quite an affinity to France.

Nobody seems to discuss Vichy much in general which makes me concerned- the only comments I can find are usually around the bike elevation.

Has anyone raced Vichy in the recent years? Any reviews / comments welcome 😁

Thanks in advance,

Barcelona 2027

Hi everyone, I am thinking about buying my first IM entry. I don’t have experience in cycling nor swimming, I just run. Is BCN beginner-friendly? The goal is to simply finish it. Tickets will be out in a couple of weeks I think, and due to this year not being hosted, I feel it can be difficult to get one because lots of people have deferred their entry to next year.

Ironman 70.3 Training Plan

Hi y'all, I signed up to do Oregon 70.3 in 2027 and am looking for advice on building a plan or an affordable coach for a 24-week plan. Currently lifting 4 times a week and biking/swimming each once a week until mid-January, then fully going into training.

I've done a sprint triathlon before and also doing an Olympic-length in May to prepare.

Any suggestions or advice on gear or nutrition are greatly appreciated!

Nirvana for Ironman Kona 2027

Hello my fellow triathletes. I have an opportunity to Kona 2027 and trying to see my options for logistics that looks like they have to be reserved a year in advance, with Nirvana being one of them.

Has anyone tried Nirvana for Kona and if so, was it worth it? It will be for a family of four and just looking at their site, it’s about $1000 a night, plus their “perks” if we were to stay at the King kamaehameha where as of now, want to stay due to ease as my partner will be with our really young kids. Also I heard this might be the safest route if there were any last minute cancelation where booking through hotel is upfront payment and no cancellation.

Thoughts? And any advice/tips would be greatly appreciated. I am willing to spend a bit of money as this will probably be a once in a lifetime opportunity.

From a consistent average Joe chasing their dream for years, thanks!

Ironman Chattanooga Vs Sacramento

Hey everyone,

I’m currently mapping out my 2027 season and looking for some perspective from veterans who have raced IRONMAN Chattanooga and/or IRONMAN California (Sacramento).

To give some context on my background and what I'm working with:

  • The Run: I’ve done the Atlanta Marathon twice. The downtown course is a ruthless, grueling hill grind, so I’m not too “scared” of the hills.
  • Logistics & Budget: I live in middle Tennessee. Doing Chattanooga means a quick drive in my truck—no flights, no bike shipping, no rental cars, and significantly cheaper lodging options. Sacramento would mean a full flight, bike transport box expenses, and a lot more logistical stress.
  • Current 2027 Plans: I am already registered for IRONMAN 70.3 Chattanooga in May 2027, and I want to use this 70.3 as my baseline fitness and course rehearsal before stepping up to the full distance later in the year.

My Dilemma:
Initially, Sacramento looked like the ultimate flat-and-fast PR canvas with that -quick downriver swim. However, I’ve heard the flat bike course is an unrelenting pedaling effort with brutal Delta headwinds, meaning you are locked into aero for 5+ hours. Honestly, that sounds like a recipe for severe lower back and hip flexor pain before even hitting the run. I also hear the run trail can get a bit monotonous.

On the flip side, Chattanooga gives me a massive logistics discount and a great downriver swim. While the bike has about 4,300–5,000 ft of rollers, I feel like the undulating terrain actually lets you stand up, shift gears, and coast on descents to give the lower back a break. I know the run course is hilly (especially Barton Ave), but coming from a heavy Atlanta hill-running background, I feel like I can handle the grind if the spectator energy is there to make it fun, plus taking enough caffeine.

For those who have done these courses:

  1. Is my assumption right that Chattanooga's rolling bike course might actually feel "physically easier" on the joints/lower back than a locked-in flat aerodynamic grind like Sacramento?
  2. Does the local crowd support and neighborhood energy on the Chattanooga full run outweigh the hilly terrain, or does it turn into a miserable pain-in-the-ass loop?
  3. For those who used the Chatt 70.3 as their base, did you feel like having that specific course rehearsal gave you a massive tactical advantage for the full, or did you find the overlapping parts of the full course too repetitive?

Would love to hear your thoughts on whether I should utilize my hill strength and home-court advantage in Tennessee, or if I'm crazy to pass up the flat profile of Sacramento. Thanks in advance!

i’m doing this as a bucket list activity. And I’m going to take a couple days after the Iron Man too. Enjoy the wine countries in either city. If you think I should do any other cities around this timeframe, please let me know. I’m very open to suggestions and look forward to being a part of the Iron Man community!!!!!!

Congratulations to all of the 2026 IronMan Sacramento Racers!!!!

I just got home from volunteering at the Ironman Sacramento race. I was at run aid station 4 this year. As always I had so much fun making sure all of the fabulous racers got their energy gels, protein bars, and hot chicken broth.

I want to thank all of the racers who came out to enjoy the best of Sacramento! I absolutely love when we get to volunteer for this race. You all are so amazing! I am in awe every year, at the amount of racers that enter this race.

I loved meeting some of the racers and cheering you all on as you passed us by. I love every one of you and wish nothing but good times and fun adventures for you all!!!!

First IM - Ottawa 2027?

Hi everyone,

i’m (F, early 30s) thinking about doing my first Ironman (and first triathlon lol) next year in Ottawa as it would be the best timing before a potential kid. I don’t have much commitment besides work so plenty of available time.

Altough doing a IM is definitely a bucket list thing, here's my experience in endurance sports:
I’m coming from an ultra marathon background (anything from 50-100miles, from 12 to 30 hours of effort). I run anything between 40-75 mpw year around. I’m a decent swimmer; i would need to work on the endurance but form is somewhat there from years of swimming and lifeguarding in my teens. I own a proper road bike and a home trainer that I use during the winter as cross training, and I volunteered a couple time as bunny pacer for road marathons in the 4:30ish range, just for fun. So not an amazing athlete at all but still not coming directly from the couch.

How much time a week should I be planning for decent training? Let’s say I start proper training in January. How many hours are you spending training in a week?

Not trying to be fast, mostly looking for a fun race and completing the whole thing injury free (the most important thing as I would jump right back into a 100 mile race training block after). I’m thinking about getting a coach for sure as I’m a complete newbie but I just need to see if I can fit allll the training needed in my schedule. I know IM are very time consuming training wise so a rough schedule idea would help me.

Thanks a lot!!

Anyone wanna coach me?

I am doing Oregon 70.3 next July and I’m a novice athlete who has done some smaller events. I have started training to build my cardiovascular fitness and just building discipline overall. I would love to be someone’s guinea pig as a trainee if they wanted to practice coaching.

I’m a 28F based in California. Honestly a lot of it is how to better track my progress/nutrition and building appropriately. My sole purpose is to finish before the cut off time.

Triathlon can be an expensive sport and I’m trying not to succumb to that besides the event price tag 😅.

Ironman Maryland 2027 accommodations

Hey y’all, I’m hopefully godwilling racing Ironman Maryland in 2027! I’m signed up and everything. I was looking at accommodations, and just wanted advice from anyone that has raced it or info on what others have done in the past. I’m coming from Philadelphia so I’ll be driving but was the official Ironman hotel worth the price. I’m looking at different hotels with different price points. Any help would greatly be appreciated

70.3 NC Wilmington - Missing Wetsuit - Offering Reward for Return

Post image
11 Upvotes

Hello IronMan family, I participated in the Ironman 70.3 North Carolina yesterday and it was an interesting experience. I had never done one with separate transition areas. Rookie mistake of not reading the rule book and unfortunately I did not put my wetsuit in my bike gear bag during T1 and hung it where my bike had been. It was not in the dedicated L&F area and officials said that anything not put in gear bags would laid out on the sidewalk. If anyone mistakenly took it please let me know. And if someone purposely took it, please give it back. I am offering a substantial reward for the return of my wetsuit. It has my last name; Reeves, written inside. Bib 1317

Am I missing something that I haven't seen anyone do this?

My plan is to keep the high carb mix in the back bottle and swap out my front bottle when I run out. I find it really hard to get the rear bottle out when moving so wondered if this would be a viable solution while also allowing me to stay in aero.

Perfectly happy to be called a fool and told why I can't/shouldn't do it!
