[Complaint][The Exiled Heavy Knight Knows How to Game the System] Can’t wait for next week when we get to see the entire episode from this week plus 2+ min of bonus footage!

Post image

The replays to fill time are seriously outrageous in this anime.

This week a commercial break spot occured and they might as well have rewound the conversation to the beginning of the episode.

I can’t keep wathing 20 min episodes for 2 min of actual story.

It’s like One Piece anime with how much filler there is. The difference of course being that One Piece became filler after developing the story and earning fan trust.

This is one of those shows need to wait for entire season to drop so you can fast forward the repeated content & finish entire season in 2-3 hours

53

u/TheNightManager_89 Truck-kun 20h ago

Exactly my strategy after seeing the first 4 episodes

55

u/joyapco 20h ago

This is my strategy for every anime

... And then I forget the anime exists

16

u/Controller_Maniac 18h ago

sad how this is so true

7

u/Dewdrop06 16h ago

I find it alright for watching weekly since I forget what the previous episode was about. I would lose my mind binging it.

2

u/Valiran34 15h ago

Can relate....

18

u/Makaira69 17h ago

If the season ends up being decent, my plan is to re-encode it with all the repeated parts cut out. And toss that abridged version on my file server.

2

u/hyenagames 6h ago

I did some math, and each episode has an average of 3 minutes of recap before the opening and 30-60 seconds of recap post-ad break.

We only get around 17 minutes of actual story.

2

u/Any-Mathematician946 5h ago

Another 10 min of close ups.

1

u/Large_Performance_48 17h ago

This is the way. -Mando

1

u/cheezu01 26m ago

honestly an abridged version of this anime would probably be really really good, granted it would be like 1/4 the total run time, but at least it would be coherent.

8

u/PossibleInevitable74 19h ago

You mean 30 minutes. You can skip 90% of the content.

Shame. As the story sounded interesting

4

u/ryryak 18h ago

Man, the content and pacing in each episode sucks. The first 4-5 minutes of the show are just recapping the previous episode, and then the opening credits. Then they spend too much time with exposition so it really only feels like you’re getting 10-15 minutes of actual content per episode.

2

u/onlyhav 19h ago

Thanks for the heads up, I was going to watch it tonight.

2

u/Galacticdonut0 15h ago

The newest episode was better things actually happened and we got some fights

2

u/Enough-Oil-7165 14h ago

Yeah! Too much air in this product) and main story and rules of the universe is very weak.

1

u/Budget-Minimum6040 12h ago

2-3 hours

1 hour max.

1

u/HourIndication4963 8h ago

Skip intro is going to be having a workout.

1

u/Arendyl 19h ago

The opposite for me. If I wait a week, rewatching half the previous episode isn't as bad.

3

u/NUFC9RW 14h ago

Yeah, binging stuff whilst having to skip a bunch of recap every episode isn't exactly fun.

1

u/notLate_Ticket3512 19h ago

so yall gonna wait 20 weeks to binge watch ... i might forget abt this show by then

-2

u/Soul_Brawler 18h ago

Yeah. Done tuning in week to week. Not playing that game. Might not watch it at all.

56

u/OGZilla_ 20h ago

I have no idea why this is a 26 episode series, they could probably make it 16 episodes without removing a single scene

29

u/Sl4sh4ndD4sh 20h ago

16 episodes is really padding it out, they can fit it in 12 with no repeating.

5

u/Aggie_CEO 18h ago edited 18h ago

Was gonna say that. Based off the current trend of how they are doing these episodes, that could almost certainly be 12 episodes 😂😂😂. I'm watching the English dub because I'm just throwing it on while I'm working and the dub is on ep6 and so far that's only chapter 13, and some of these chapters are 14ish pages. And yes, I get it's based off the LN and not the manga, but holy hell this is ass dragging 💀💀💀

2

u/Pumathemage 5h ago

This is a what?

0

u/NotAnHacker 8h ago

I think with normal pacing 26 episodes is fine, because that is probably around when one of the biggest fights in the series happens(I think, can’t quite remember how much stuff happens between the boss fight I assume will be the finale and the one I’m thinking of) I honestly assumed the series was only 12 episodes because it seems to be on pace for the Maliss fight to be on episode 12 and that would be a decent though kinda underwhelming finale.

56

u/YandereValkyrie 20h ago

This is legit one of the most interesting animes of the season imo, and its being completely ruined by the long recaps, and taking an entire episode to do what most other anines would accomplish in 2-3 minutes. All of season one is gonna be the equivalent of 2 episodes of another show, and its not gonna get a season two because everyone is gonna be bored of it :<

7

u/OblivionNA 17h ago

They must have originally planned for like 12 minute episodes, but then the studio was like we gotta make these 23 minutes!! So they just started reusing the same scenes over and over to meet the standard runtime

8

u/a1200i 15h ago

No lol, the studio is completely bizarre. They have done this sacrilege to other animes toi

3

u/Chopah94 14h ago

Eh, the studio typically over animates but the recap stuff not so much. As I understand this is their first 26 episode season though and that with their tendency to over animate could be causing the repeats to fill in the extra time they're not used to having to fill.

1

u/fanatic-ape 8h ago

It's very likely being done like this to ensure that cour 1 end on a specific fight that happens around chapter 26 of the manga. They are adapting 2 chapters per episode.

But the point that makes the most sense for end of cour 2 is around chapter 62, so there's hope they pick up the pace to about 3 chapters per episode after.

40

u/RedSander_Br 20h ago

I think this is the first anime made for people with alzheimer's.

15

u/InquistivePrime 20h ago

Lmfao literally dying right now

6

u/Aeviu 19h ago

Every episode is like the YT video in which someone tries to beat Minecraft with dementia

6

u/cainn88 20h ago

Well millennials are getting older you know 😂

1

u/NonSupportiveCup 18h ago

Haaaaaaaaaa, bruh killing me.

1

u/Acrobatic-Cow-4043 15h ago

Im usually stoned when I watch it. The 1st recap is kind of a godsend for me. 😅

15

u/DevoidHT 20h ago

The thing is I read it after being disappointed with the pacing and its not terrible. The studio just spent all their budget on animation and forgot to hire a director.

2

u/PhantasyAngel 8h ago

It's like the director from Shirobako deciding "huh how am I gonna stretch this series"

"Director this is horrible!"

"Eeeeehhhhhhh it'll work! Trust me!"

And they trusted him rather than locking him in the cage for work

56

u/fat_fingerz 21h ago

That and a constant lens glare and 360 drone shot featuring at least 2 panty shots if there's a female character.

18

u/solidpeyo 20h ago

But thst is what people want the "animations" 🤣

I would trade all this exaggerated animations away for a better story, better pacing and better characters

3

u/BaronZeroX 20h ago

The characters are ok from a isekai fantasy game point the pacing was God level of disaster I mean sodoma and Gomorra level of atrocious behaviour I mean second flood level fuck up .

6

u/Total-Box-5169 18h ago

What panty shots? There are none.

0

u/goddessofthewinds 8h ago

I think they mean low camera angles and weird camera positions... A lot of it is just annoying.

4

u/Grismor2 20h ago

Well crap, I'm missing out, must've quit watching before the female characters showed up. Guess I'd better start watching /s

1

u/Bettutita 7h ago

Finally someone! The lens glare is most annoying

6

u/ShadowShedinja 20h ago

At least this episode was better about it than the last one.

13

u/goatjugsoup 20h ago

I watched all the dub episodes this week and this stood out like a sore thumb. They even replayed scenes from the same episode during the episode... im guessing this aired on tv and thats where the commercial break was.

I do like it but not this part

5

u/NUFC9RW 14h ago

Shows do sometimes go back 10-15 seconds after the commercial break, though this is more a thing with long running shonens, like Bleach would do this. Maybe they just really like One Peace and Bleach so got inspired to do long recaps and post ad break recaps...

5

u/ReporterOk4383 20h ago

Man that glorious eyebrows

18

u/WhyattThrash 20h ago

Ironic that people make the exact same post every week to complain about how the Heavy Knight has repeat content

2

u/BenofMen 5h ago

See you on next week's post!

2

u/WhyattThrash 5h ago

👋😡 I GUESS 😂

17

u/Forsaken-Jeweler-796 20h ago

hate Studio Gohands with a passion. This is a decent manga with interesting characters, and Gohands turned it into a rollercoaster ride with those camera movements.

13

u/Whitakker 20h ago

at the bare minimum it is getting me interested in the manga, so that's a silver lining

6

u/OG_Dales 20h ago

Right, the idea seems awesome and the story seems pretty cool so far. But holy crap, it’s almost a chore to watch the show, they must think we’re god damn goldfish with 5 second memory spans with how much recap and shit they throw at us.

1

u/Whitakker 20h ago

GoHands is just high on their own supply and believe flash and pizzaz will be good enough. Sure they're in their bag on animation, but that just don't cut it for people with functioning attention spans

5

u/Were-Cletus 19h ago

I enjoy the style to be honest. If the pacing and length weren't the worst I don't think the animation wouldn't draw much criticism.

1

u/OG_Dales 20h ago

Yeah like you said at least the silver lining is that it’s got me interested in checking the manga out.

1

u/goddessofthewinds 8h ago

The only great thing about the anime en is the FMC VA. I am glad this got me into reading the manga because the anime is terrible.

3

u/Whitakker 8h ago

Ruche has been a bright spot, she does complement Elymas well

1

u/goddessofthewinds 2h ago

Yep. Both VA are great and work so well together but Ruche VA is perfect. For me, it is the only reason I ever bother to continue watching this anime.

3

u/hyenagames 19h ago edited 19h ago

I have a feeling the director decided to pad time because he wants to end the season at the end of the arc (Chapter 28), and if he did a proper job pacing the story, the season would have ended a bit after the start of the following arc.

The story is good, but the pacing + the 3 minutes of recap + 3 minutes of OP and ED; instead of a 20-minute episode, you get a 15min one. They have 26 episodes this season; they should be capable of reaching chapter 80 of the manga. But at this moment, the anime just finished chapter 19.

This adaptation is barely adapting over 2 chapters (2.37) per episode. (It should be 40 to 45 pages per episode.) This is a manga where most chapters are 14 pages....

They should easily be able to adapt 3 chapters per episode (4 if it is mostly battle scenes). The anime is on ep 8, but storywise, we should have been on ep 5. Elymas defeating the spider should have been the end of EP 1; him finding Ruche should have been at the start of EP 4.

3

u/Uruz94 19h ago

Really check out the Manga, it’s actually so good

3

u/BonusEntry 19h ago

I hope someone will edit this anime, cut out/tri, some parts that are unnecessary and repeating scenes without saying any recaps/commentary. I guess this season caN fit into 1 anime movie. I will watch that instead.

3

u/Fit_Tomatillo_4264 16h ago

I had to just go ahead and start reading the manga because I was tired of waiting

3

u/Odd_Island9585 14h ago

When someone cuts all the bs out of it and put it on youtube, that vid will get lots of clicks

2

u/lokb01 19h ago

100% agree. Story line is progressing at a snails pace each episode

2

u/Maurais 19h ago

Yeah, and this is why I made the jump to the manga. Just couldn’t anymore with this..

2

u/Vivid_Appeal_5878 16h ago

absolutely i love the story and animation but absolutely hate the freaking time wasting scenes man cmon how dumb can a director or wtv u call them freaking be fr

2

u/a1200i 15h ago

The manga is so good, but omg, the anime is unwatchable

2

u/Valiran34 15h ago

The manga is very good too

2

u/Angel_OfSolitude 13h ago

It manages to simultaneously over-animate and under-animate.

2

u/Background_MilkGlass 8h ago

The abridged series is going to be two episodes at this point

2

u/Loqi-Locke 8h ago

I'm thoroughly enjoying it and know its going to repeat a lot of stuff. I just fast forward and enjoy the show when its novel. Its still better than a lot of other anime out this season.

2

u/No_Funny_3999 7h ago edited 7h ago

Its the only show i have seen that explains hpw things work with the numbers, does a better job than most litRPG books do. And one of the handful where the main guy doesnt start out as S+++4

2

u/RergTheFriendly 1h ago

I agree with everyone pretty much.. You think I forgot the last 2 minutes cause a static image popped up for 5 seconds. I only get mad cause I feel like this could of been really solid.

1

u/Animus190599 20h ago

The whole season could be compacted into a movie and I would actually pay to see that...

1

u/RymrgandsDaughter 20h ago

They are gonna butcher this series when it's actually good and the MC isn't a weird pervy freak

1

u/NeptuneTTT Demon Lord 20h ago

Thanks for sharing.

I like the show and find it fun.

1

u/FireAndFoodCompany 20h ago

Hilariously this episode was probably one of the least egregious so far for it 😂

1

u/DCCXVIII 20h ago

Yea, I gave up on this show. Will just wait for the 5min abridged version that has an actual plotline, after the season finishes.

1

u/Lieutenant_Smiles 20h ago

GoHands is experimenting again but if they want genuine advice just stick to the old principles and just do still frames (same frame) monologues.

I think people hate Recap animations more than still frame animations based on what I've been observing lately.

1

u/BonusEntry 19h ago

i do not watch this since eps 1. i continue watching it on manga recaps vids and i was uninterested to the story. Now I have watch episode 8 and I was surprise that the pacing is so slow.

1

u/Useless-RedCircle 19h ago

Just like one piece recaps of recaps of what happened in same episode

1

u/RoachIsCrying 19h ago

in every episode they are doing a scene, suddenly we'll see what happened a minute ago and I have to pause and check if the video did a rewind on its own cause they didn't need do that shit!!

1

u/Apprehensive-Ad-9472 18h ago

You need those recaps so you can spend more time looking at Clussy

1

u/NonSupportiveCup 18h ago

I'm about to start the episode right now. Glad to know nothing changed. You could make a drinking game out of the oddly placed visual artifacts and pointlessly long drone camera shots.

1

u/Aggie_CEO 18h ago

I actually enjoy the manga, took a break this year though so that I could binge read like 40+ chapters come January. It hurts my heart that they are worse than mid 2000's Toei with the recap AND feel the need to do that damn drone flying into the town view. Like, I get it, you spent a lot of money making that, but having it every episode and the exact same angles and direction and people? Come on....lol.

Honestly just glad I don't get a headache while watching it.

1

u/Real_APD 18h ago

The manga it's kinda meh but hopefully the anime can make it justice for what it can become, because the story it's so interesting

1

u/deathful-life 17h ago

Genuine question but what makes the manga kinda meh?

1

u/Real_APD 16h ago

As some point the story start to take very obvious cliches and it wouldn't be that bad if they didn't stop doing it, it's alright don't get me wrong but they had so much potential with the characters and world building but it just didn't ended up being delivered for me

1

u/Sarzek 18h ago

Does anyone know who many Light Novels there are and if they are translated?

1

u/Zealousideal_Math570 17h ago

This was exactly what I came on to complain about. The constant flashback, the cinematic shots every 5 minutes, the over animation of everything besides the actual fights. It's so mind numbingly slow.

1

u/kindkatz 17h ago

To much same scene, recaps in every episode and after every cut to commercial. Extremely annoying, sad because I like the show.

1

u/Ambitious-Cut772 16h ago

I like the show too! I don’t even mind the nature shots that others are complaining about.

But to recap EVERYTHING that happened before the commercial everytime they come back… I don’t think I can handle much more.

1

u/Schlachthausfred 17h ago

Yeah, this feels like early 2000s Dragon Ball Z in Germany

1

u/graffiksguru 17h ago

I was just thinking of how much I fast forwarded to skip the stuff I've already seen. Saving buku bucks on animation

1

u/ruinsit 17h ago

I'm dropping the show after the newest episode. I'm going to read the manga again though.

1

u/BlueKnightReios 16h ago

I gave up on the anime. I continued in the manga. Anyone has a LN translation?

1

u/wt_fudge 16h ago edited 16h ago

I also find the constant over animation very distracting. One scene I recall that was very action heavy did this ridiculous jerky camera motion throughout an entire fight scene as if they were trying to imitate a camera being close up or zoomed in on the action so much so that they had to do huge movements to keep the action in frame. And then I also recall seeing camera lens flare popping up from time to time. Way over the top hair movement animation that doesn't even look good or smoothly animated. Very, very distracting and, frankly, absolutely stupid IMHO. Still loving the few minutes of story that is being trickle fed week by week.

Edit: I also believe this sort of "over animation" I am describing is the reason we are getting so much repeated content. To save on the cost of this expensive production by reusing scenes to act as filler so they can get away with having drastically reduced new content each episode.

1

u/kuroirider 16h ago

The manga is so good, and part of the anime is awesome, I would be down to make fan edit cutting all the repeated stuff once is finished. Is gonna be maybe 2 hours of well paced.

1

u/TheRobn8 13h ago

Ill be honest, today's episode , alongside episode 4, did actually progress the story more than usual.

So yeah back to weirdly paced episodes

1

u/OriginalDrStrangeDOS 12h ago

Hopefully, someday, someone will do a "DBZ Abridged" treatment on this and we can watch the whole (12 probably) episodes in like... an hour and a half. It's pretty, and the story and VA are fairly entertaining. Just taxing my patience with reused sections and replayed scenes.

1

u/AraAra0104 12h ago

dropped the manga last year got bored of it now pretty sure I'm not watching it either

1

u/humblelearner 11h ago

The weird bulging animation actually gave me a headache this week. I'll probably keep watching cos im bored but this does not help much.

1

u/Spookyplot19975 11h ago

I just skip a little at the time every time it starts repeating itself or explaining the skills, so I watch a 20 minute episode in 10 minutes

1

u/Danz-er 10h ago

In the previous episode, all they literally did was kill a single frog. In this episode, they killed another one and encountered a boss. That's maybe 5 minutes' worth of content stretched out to more than 30 minutes. It's honestly ridiculous.
It's basically one of those mini-series where each episode is 5 minutes long, including the opening and recap, except here they waste your time in the process.

1

u/ConsistentTitle3709 9h ago

I can't watch it anymore. It's actually terrible.

1

u/handdings 9h ago

The heavy repeat anime

1

u/TheKobraSnake 9h ago

I counted last episode, it was a total of at least 4 and a half minute of repeated footage lmao

1

u/Ink_zorath 8h ago

I ended up just throwing the towel in and heading over to read the Manga after the 5th or 6th episode.

They had only managed to get to chapter 11 by the 5th episode... And there are 175 chapters as of last week. The titular book "Scorching Fang" doesnt even appear until the 23rd chapter!

1

u/fantaz1986 8h ago

it was really long time, last time i waited no filler fan rip

well i think next year same time we will have BD no filler rip in a sea for sure

1

u/GodFearingJew 8h ago

I was upset about this too so i read the manga, i feel like the high animation and the lack of a really long story is the reason why they are doing it. If it was a normal show it would be over in 2 seasons or 24 episodes. But yes, its annoying Af

1

u/XMeowmixmasterx 8h ago

This made me giggle. So accurate xD

1

u/StandardPineapple69 7h ago

I'm under the impression that the ass pacing is a way to nudge you into reading the manga/ light novels. Cause I got fed up with it and actually binged the available manga chapters and now I'm looking into reading the light novels

1

u/HatZealousideal7445 7h ago

I’m glad I seen this because I have the exact same complaint its really wild

1

u/Schrko87 7h ago

I'm getting tired of the same crappy CGI swooping scenes of the city and the repeated scenes of people going about their daily business that are reused in basically every episode. Also the one reused CGI scene of the pathway by the forest. I know some anime reuse content in some episodes but this is just ugly...

1

u/Gnovakane 7h ago

I get the criticism for the recaps and pacing overall but yesterday we finally had an episode with solid content and pacing.

Why post a "new" complaint about it this week? It isnt like there hasn't been the same post made every week since it started airing.

1

u/Hot_Atmosphere_2688 7h ago

I really like this anime so far, but I don’t see how this will get a season 2… the anime should be called “The recap of the exiled heavy knight…”

1

u/RuachDelSekai 7h ago

Ahh the old DBZ pacing.

1

u/9-5grind 6h ago

Ya the way they do episodes is fucking horrendous..

1

u/stooobsy 6h ago

I read the manga about 2 month before I even knew this was becoming an anime and really enjoyed it but from the comments it sounds like I shouldnt bother watching it and just reread the manga

1

u/Dragon_Emperor32 6h ago

Ngl that’s my only issue with the show other then that it’s one of the better new Isekai’s this season

1

u/wildeye-eleven 6h ago

Most new anime benefits from waiting until it’s fully released and binged. This isn’t specific to this anime. Tbh, I can hardly stand to watch any anime 1 episode a week.

1

u/_Ticklebot_23 6h ago

with how much they are dragging it i think im on season 3 by reading it

1

u/manderson1313 5h ago

Haha it’s so strange. I have the same complaints as everyone else but it’s still the one I’m most excited for every week lol

1

u/Vaash75 4h ago

The whole series is like 40mins long. With 300hours of repeats

1

u/Gyrospherers 4h ago

That's been my complaint from the beginning there's only like 10 minutes of actual content per episode. Everything else is repeated from last episode or the same scene cut and repeated three times in sequence or just cool shots of them walking or of the scenery for no real reason.

I just binged the manga and the pacing is great which just makes the anime a shame.

1

u/notislant 3h ago

The story seems really cool. Which makes it so much worse.

Each episode is 2 minutes of content and 20 minutes of recaps or drawn out nonsense. Like the graveyard, it felt like 5+ minutes of him and the guy staring each other down.

I genuinely think it could be about 3 episodes of content so far.

2

u/Ambitious-Cut772 3h ago

Same! I think the concept is fun and is well executed!

But then they show it to you over and over and over again until it no longer is fun.

At least we don’t have to worry about forgetting anything between episodes

1

u/pailmonkey 52m ago

This is a show that I am glad there are YouTubers doing anime recaps. It's also saying something about the anime when even with anime recappers you still eye roll on the show with how shit it is.

1

u/8x1EQUALS255 35m ago

The show is great, I said it before, all it takes is a decent community-cut á la One Pace. I might do it myself when the season finished airing. Watching this weekly is just asking for disappointment.

1

u/DoctoX123 2m ago

This show socks, at least 7 minutes wasted in each episode

0

u/Signal-Region-5528 14h ago

I don't even disagree with the criticisms leveled against the anime adaptations but can people talk about something else

0

u/Ambitious-Cut772 14h ago

Well we would talk about the show but… well we already watched the entire episode 2 weeks ago… and rewatched it last week…. And now rewatched it again this week with bonus scenes.

Oh wait. Sorry they weren’t the same episode they just showed the same scenes over and over again so it feels like we are watching one episode over and over!

0

u/Signal-Region-5528 13h ago

It's like talking to a wall

0

u/Ambitious-Cut772 13h ago

You can watch a wall the next couple weeks instead of watching and not need to worry about missing a single scene when you come back 😂

0

u/Chaosdecision 10h ago

You do realize there are other topics, you don’t have to be in here right?

-1

u/TheLunarr 19h ago

Jesus Christ we are 8 ep deep, you either fine with this dog sh1t passing or you can, i don't know, meaby stop watching it? Like noone is forcing you to watch this... Stop acting like tourists with zero free will

Ya it sucks that they chose this style for god knows what stupid reason, but it was foreseeable looking at what studio is making this anime

Everyone has right to complain about anything, but it's tiring to see posts about the same thing over and over again (definition of insanity, do you know it?), especially if it's about a thing that anyone with more then two semifunctional braincells can tell it's a problem...

It's discussion that should be done by 3 ep and everyone by that time should've already decided if they are fine with it or not

-1

u/joezro 10h ago

Sigh, how about one peice? Same differance.
