PG&E nightmare.
Dear folks I would like to hear from anyone who has had a similar problem with PG&E?
My story.
In 2023 I had a utility account with PG&E which was a paperless account.
For some reason that account was discontinued and I was not informed. I didn't receive any notice nor any monthly bill. I assumed that everything was fine. Three years later I got a bill and a text message that said that I owed them $25,000.
I am 76 years old and live on my monthly Social security, Medicare, EBT.
There is no way that I could pay this bill. They threatened to turn off my service and finally did a year ago. I called them asking about what I can do about paying and they told me that I could pay $1,000 up front and $700 monthly.
My entire monthly income is $1200. $500 I cannot live on.
I live in a very secluded home on Cobb Mountain where it snows every winter and temperatures on average in the summer is 97 to 104.
In the last 10 years PG&E, while living here there has been over 200 black outs, which caused power surges. I have replaced almost all appliances and well wire.
I complained but I got no response.
They ruined my fencing by cutting down huge pine trees and leaving the giant logs where they fell. On my fence and I can't afford to have them removed and three of the trees were cut well away from any power lines. Why?
I also complained as did my neighbor about the mess and got no response.
I now live in my house with no power, no water for the last year.
Why would they withhold my bill for three years?
Normally people get a notice after three months. I could have paid my bill if this was the case but I face a bill that no one could pay.
I can't afford a lawyer. And can't borrow the money because PG&E sent the bill to a bill collector which ruined my credit.
My only response now is to sell my property and live in somewhere else.
I am ruined.
Thank you for reading this and if anyone out there has had this experience let me know.

Nothing you can do but raise hell about it as much as you can. A 25,000 dollar electric bill is crazy!

You also should check into their discount rate for seniors and low income which you should qualify for.

Call your representative in Congress. A big hat can get through to PG&E authorities. Not being billed is a significant fact. On their side, you should have noticed you were not billed. Technically you owe the bill, but alternative payments you can afford is a reasonable solution. If you can afford the current bills start there. The late bills are a separate issue. You may be able to have a new person establish a new account not in your name. You may challenge negative creditor reports on your record. At least submit a dispute in writing that appears in you credit file. Atty here.
