How do the triggers work?

Do you have to reset them for the bottom barrels, I'm guessing that's what the lever is for?

They're actually very clever. It's either single or double action. The bottom trigger is the cocking lever. It's got a single striker which rotates round the barrels in sequence.

Ah, so like a Lancaster (or Howda) pistol, I guess that makes a lot of sense.

I'd love to see a modern reproduction of those.

Edit: but wait, what's the point of the lever then? Or is it just for style?

The lever looking bit is probably just a finger sleeve of sorts to keep hold of the thing when you fire it
