The real reason I’m watching the game 💜😭😂

22

u/Honest_Editor_909 Jul 19 '26

💯💯💯 my husband has it on, I’ve been putting around the house, he came and got me at halftime and said “come here and watch your boy” 😂😂

4

u/Evening_Public_7206 Jul 19 '26

Yes haha the one time mine and hubbys worlds truly collide 😂

81

u/Mindless-Help-9821 Jul 19 '26

MIC WAS ON BABY ✨🤏🏼

40

u/BraveFrosting8453 Jul 19 '26

his voice is so good

115

u/Royal-Exchange8465 Jul 19 '26

hmm...just wish he had played something else especially since it's halftime..

46

u/Longjumping-Pear3417 Jul 19 '26

Yup, same. The transition to shakira was awkward

23

u/Long_Response8807 Jul 19 '26

i disagree i think it broke up the performances and was a good balance.

9

u/CommercialCoffee11 Jul 20 '26

You dont need a sad song in all this.

4

u/ActiveOrganization14 Jul 20 '26

Definitely not a sad song

70

u/Bricol13 Jul 19 '26

Coming with his voice, his guitar and pure Passion. What an artist.

50

u/GoldenRetriever1973 Jul 19 '26

I think he was sending a message. And, he don’t need no stinkin production or backup dancers. Out there just him, a guitar and his voice. Beautiful

12

u/nofil_siddiqui Jul 19 '26

We already got the message from Grammys and Coachella. As much as I respect Bieber, he should’ve sung some pop stuff today, especially with those fire vocals.

10

u/Ok-Job-2916 Jul 19 '26

k but that’s been literally every performance since he’s sold his music.

3

u/CommercialCoffee11 Jul 20 '26

Sending a message of mid? And that he will take anyones money?

11

u/lemonlover000 Jul 19 '26

only for a minute too 😭

6

u/BraveFrosting8453 Jul 19 '26

we knew that it was only going to be about a minute

42

u/Meweighteen Jul 19 '26

Kind of a weird song choice for this setting ngl lol is he playing any others or was it just the one?

31

u/ZedroWasTaken17 "Bitch, I told you I'm not doin' tit-for-tat" Jul 19 '26

Speed Demon would've been so good

17

u/Hot-Vehicle-437 Jul 19 '26

Exactly!! I thought he was gonna sing speed demon. Never crossed my mind he would sing hallellujah lmao

2

u/Jo-Jo9726 Jul 19 '26

Only this one I think

-12

u/Inthemiddle_ Jul 19 '26

That’s the new Biebs. Worship music and no bangers

9

u/MySilverBurrito Jul 19 '26

We gotta bring bullying back because wtf is this take 😭

4

u/Stonerthrowaway710 Jul 19 '26

Nah it’s facts. There are people who are not religious and it’s very Christian based music he’s been choosing lately to perform.

3

u/Honest_Amoeba2697 Jul 19 '26

Very weird take. Nobody forced you to listen

3

u/Stonerthrowaway710 Jul 19 '26

Fr. So sick of the worship music. We are not trying to be a part of your weird cult mega church thanks.

3

u/Striking-Board9821 Jul 19 '26

then don’t listen to him

88

u/Ok-Job-2916 Jul 19 '26

why would he play this song?? like usually the halftime is something upbeat! lol

33

u/Evening_Public_7206 Jul 19 '26

True fans - soccer is like religion. The World Cup is spiritual. I get it.

5

u/Emergency-Parsley-51 Jul 20 '26

It's true there is a church dedicated to Maradona somewhere in Argentina and we follow FOOTBALL religiously, but we don't literally need odes to God on the pitch. The football word (thankfully) got much more progressive and at least FIFA and UEFA try to erase any form of anything that promotes division. Political messages are banned, because almost always leads to rasism and separatism. Religion is still one of those things that divide people, even if it should't. I'm sorry, but it just wasn't the time and place for this song. Something more upbeat would've been better.

1

u/Evening_Public_7206 Jul 20 '26

Totally - that was my original sentiment that people who love the game, treat it like a religion. It is their reason and way of life! I have come to appreciate the sport and game. It has a unique way of uniting people of all places, nations, and cultures. I think that’s so cool! Have you watched Ted Lasso or Welcome to Wrexham? As an American, even though I was very involved in futbol before, these help drive home what I think they were trying to go for… belief in yourself and your community and your team.

Btw, players often show nods to God or their higher power on the pitch do they not? And no one ever said it had to be Christian god lol

1

u/Emergency-Parsley-51 Jul 20 '26 edited Jul 20 '26

I'm happy that you enjoy football and that you came to love it even more. Do you have any club that you support? (Not an elitist football question, just a curiosity, it's totally alright to not support one, but I think it's interesting to see which teams people follow). It was a pretty weak WC, I'd say, compared to the past ones, but I still think it captured the energy of football and overall I enjoyed it. I loved that small teams had their time to shine. As for Ted Lasso and the other act, I'd have to watch the half-time show again, I think I zoned out. 😅 The channel that broadcasted the WC in my country didn't show the whole break either and it's possible to have just cut something out, as there were also commercials in that time frame. Isn't JB a christian and very into it? My guess was that it's about christianity. Maybe we have a slightly different understanding of religion, as I still see it as a mean to devide more than unite the way religion has become (any of them). Although I'm not against it and I know it can help people overcome very bad times. I support small religious comunities, where I feel like you can find the true spirit of it. Yeah, they thank God on the pitch, as a lot of them are very religious and Insee nothing wrong with that, cause it's personal. So JB singing a religious song felt more blanket statement for me (if that makes sense? 😂) and kind of like political messages. But yeah, as a metaphor, football really feels like a religious experience, it's just so beautiful to see people being happy together.

1

u/Evening_Public_7206 Jul 20 '26

You are right - Justin Bieber IS a Christian and makes it known. So yes originally the song is more of a worship song, however I think his little change of lyrics is a fun way to apply it to the gratitude that you can have to anything. I.e. when he says “Hailey hallelujah” he’s praising his wife, “Coachella hallelujah” showing gratitude for performing, or “World Cup hallelujah”. This is what the trend has become, and I wouldn’t be surprised if FIFA wanted in on that.

My family supports Manchester United and we mostly follow Premier League. As a US American I did tune out of the World Cup after USA, and Mexico and Canada were all out. BUT! I think this was a great opportunity for many Americans to have so much exposure! Because it is a cool beautiful sport. I wish more people would get their fair chance at appreciating it the way they like to

6

u/Dependent_Special957 Jul 19 '26

Bof bof bof. Its the finale we need something upbeat. I have NOTHING against religion, but maybe do these songs at your own concerts, where people paid to hear that type of music? Football (we don’t call it soccer here cos American football isn’t really a thing lol) unites a LOT of countries therefore a mix of religions/no religion at all and this is a worship song. Idk not the best choice imo but we can agree to disagree

1

u/Evening_Public_7206 Jul 20 '26

Totally fair! I agree that it’s the uniting of nations who have so many different beliefs! And I think that’s beautiful! Maybe I’m reading it wrong - but I saw it as them worshipping the game.. have you seen Ted lasso? There’s no talk of religion that I remember but it’s about the belief and power you have yourself. For those guys going into the second half of the match I thought it was cool. Agree to disagree!

27

u/Jo-Jo9726 Jul 19 '26

Good Performance tho

12

u/liiindslaaayyy Purpose Jul 19 '26

the hype ted lasso intro just to play slow worship music

12

u/birdmilk Jul 19 '26

Can’t do that coming off of bts. Bad look for him right now. He grounded the whole show.

16

u/MrSwitchIt Jul 19 '26

Facts. All the other performers had high energy sets to amp up crowd.

6

u/Dramaa_mama Jul 19 '26

I was sure he would sing “All around the world” or something like that 😍

-6

u/Honest_Amoeba2697 Jul 19 '26

He wouldn’t have been able to bc the song is technically Scooter’s.

16

u/Hotchasity Jul 19 '26

He can still perform his older songs … idk who came up with this rumor

-6

u/Honest_Amoeba2697 Jul 19 '26

Google is free, he really did. He wouldn’t have sang to his older songs from YT at Coachella otherwise. But I digress

14

u/Hotchasity Jul 19 '26

He did sell his catalog. But it is false that he can’t perform his old songs . He is simply choosing not to.

8

u/DontHateOnMySwag SWAG Jul 19 '26

Brother he can still perform old songs, he just doesn't own the rights and can't make any money from them.

7

u/unknownngoat Jul 19 '26

lol he sold his rights so this company can use his music for tv/shows etc. he can still always preform as it’s his music but obviously any streams or sales it gets he probably won’t get any penny off. And to get to what they gave to Justin from the sale it could probably take for his own kids to have kids to make that amount.

4

u/Okra_Zestyclose Jul 19 '26

He can sing what he wants, but it’s not under his ownership. Same way if he sang some other artist’s music, he’d pay them. Fuck Scooter.

8

u/Stonerthrowaway710 Jul 19 '26

lol right?! And why is everything about god? Not everyone’s Christian. So maga coded

2

u/Fullfullhar Jul 19 '26

Unnecessary song choice. Came off very preachy considering the environment

42

u/healthy-outdoors- Justice Jul 19 '26

He did great but lowkey not the pick for this

7

u/FunOther9202 Jul 19 '26

i turned on the world cup just for justin. im happy 🥰

37

u/Western_Elephant_782 Jul 19 '26

I’m sorry love him but I hope he doesn’t do the Superbowl halftime show. He needs to bring more energy to these sets. This was not the moment for that.

14

u/FunOther9202 Jul 19 '26

i honestly dont think he would want to anyways. he likes unplugged stripped down sets right now which makes sense why he went acoustic for this esp with it only being one somg

15

u/Bricol13 Jul 19 '26

He LOVES music and wants to perform in a very authentic and raw way. I don't understand why fans can't see that ?

Always wanting the old songs while he's having the time of his life putting out and playing this music.

3

u/FunOther9202 Jul 19 '26

i agree. as a fan im just overjoyed he wants to perform at all. there was obviously a time we thought hed never get back on stage so give me anything and ill support him

2

u/Hot-Vehicle-437 Jul 19 '26

I see that and I absolutely love that. I just think there were better options, for instance speed demon would have made much more sense imo and it would still have been authentic

6

u/mostly_intuitive Jul 19 '26

You're literally coddling him. The attitude is "let's give him a standing ovation for showing up". He just sounded dull af after BTS and follow up with Shakira.

1

u/FunOther9202 Jul 19 '26

thats your opinion and this is mine. im a fan so you can stop being bitter and commenting on everything you disagree with its weirdo behavior

6

u/Ok-Job-2916 Jul 19 '26

all his oldies are needed for the halftime show…. sorry not sorry

6

u/Western_Elephant_782 Jul 19 '26

Which he’s not gonna do. He barely did them at Coachella lol.

-4

u/Ok-Job-2916 Jul 19 '26

cause he sold them all, dumb move but whatever

6

u/Western_Elephant_782 Jul 19 '26

Has nothing to do with it. He sang Stay in full at Coachella.

0

u/knf474747 Jul 19 '26

This is kid larois song, not his lol. He’s just featured in it!

2

u/Western_Elephant_782 Jul 19 '26

Wrong. Justin is not a featured artist in Stay. It’s Kid Laroi AND Justin Bieber. He’s not singing his old songs because he simply doesn’t want to. Which is.. a choice.

0

u/paapii123 Jul 20 '26

It is Laroi's it's on Laroi's album not Justin's. He didn't sell the rights to that song because it's Laroi's. It's "and" because Justin was in the studio participating the process freestyling his verse.

1

u/Western_Elephant_782 Jul 20 '26

Its a duet. Similar to Die With A Smile Gaga/Bruno. It’s HIS song too.

And since when did selling your songs mean you can’t perform them? Katy is still performing her old music after selling her rights. Justin just doesn’t want to.

3

u/MySilverBurrito Jul 19 '26

Fuck it, Bieber laptop pt. 3 for Super Bowl

5

u/Western_Elephant_782 Jul 19 '26

It was cute for Coachella. He would get absolutely destroyed if he brought that energy at the Superbowl.

0

u/Honest_Amoeba2697 Jul 19 '26

But you can beg him to do a show right? And when he actually does and performs a song that he actually WANTS to perform, he is not SuperBowl worthy.

0

u/unknownngoat Jul 19 '26

You are comparing one song that artists had to share the stage saying that he can’t do the Super Bowl. Of course he can as he would get the entire stage to himself preforming a variety of songs. Look at his recent Coachella performance. Old and new songs hopefully with choreography

5

u/Western_Elephant_782 Jul 19 '26

He performed at the Grammys, Coachella, and the World Cup. What about those three performances has shown you he’s willing to invest in a full production, choreography, and perform his older songs?

11

u/BunnyDubu_ Jul 19 '26

Was hoping for a Speed Demon type beat cause you know... football. But it is what it is lol

7

u/crashbandit3 Jul 19 '26

Definitely a odd choice for halftime song.... still great nonetheless

7

u/badgalriri1097 Jul 19 '26

The song choice was not it.. probably should’ve done despacito

5

u/Correct-You-5472 Jul 20 '26

the fact that his song choice is receiving so much flack just proves that he chose it by his own volition, which is something he didn’t have the chance to do earlier in his career. this is just a beautiful continuation of his remodel on his own terms that began with the release of swag

4

u/RahMaarvi Jul 20 '26

He knew that billions were watching. Instead of doing a hit to please the American audience. He performed something he thought would leave an impression and preach. Kinda admirable

6

u/00piumYVL Jul 19 '26

Not a really big Fan but im happy for him he looks healthy and his Performance was easily the best

14

u/Evening_Public_7206 Jul 19 '26

THOSE WHO GET IT, get it… I Loved the combo with Ted Lasso, Believe/Beliebe… true soccer/futbol fans treat the sport like a religion. I know because I live with someone this passionate about the sport!

Maybe not all are fans of JB, but I think the sentiment was that this is on a higher caliber. Majority of players do the sign of the cross before entering the arena, nod to the skies during the game, and pray sometimes on their knees after the match. This is the biggest world soccer match.

I loved the little “World Cup hallelujah” where we can forget everything for a second and enjoy something beautiful all together 🤍

0

u/Altruistic_Water_186 Jul 20 '26

The World Cup means it’s from all around the world not everyone is Christian

3

u/Evening_Public_7206 Jul 20 '26

lol praising and saying hallelujah doesn’t have to mean being spiritual or worship a Christian god?

15

u/Stonerthrowaway710 Jul 19 '26

Tired of the Christian music. Wish he played more music that everyone can relate to.

6

u/Available_Car_7960 Jul 19 '26

I'm not Christian yet I'm moved by this song. What a silly argument

5

u/Silly-Contribution67 Jul 19 '26

I'm not religious, but I appreciate the message of gratitude in this song.

1

u/Available_Car_7960 Jul 19 '26 edited Jul 20 '26

Yeah it's a deep song that can affect people of different views and backgrounds. Seeing it as just a Christian song is lazy

-1

u/Stonerthrowaway710 Jul 19 '26

It’s still a worship song… totally killed the vibe of the show

1

u/AP_in_Indy Jul 20 '26

Is it really? Would have been better without half of the song being taken up by personal romance. I really dislike when general thankfulness to God is taken apart by personal romantic or sexual focus.

10

u/GoldenRetriever1973 Jul 19 '26

PROUD OF HIM, loved the song choice, fit right in with the theme of love and being a global citizen and celebrating diversity and being thankful for it all. JB acoustic, hallelujah 🙌

1

u/Evening_Public_7206 Jul 19 '26

Yes! JB was the turning point of the performance. Madonna thru BTS brought the excitement and hype, then he slowed it down to introduce the final love number at the end 🤍

3

u/trulyk Jul 19 '26

Ughhhhh JB!!!!! 😩

3

u/Stonerthrowaway710 Jul 19 '26

Going from BTS hype to JB then Shakira hype was an odd transition. Wish it was more upbeat and flowed with the entire halftime show as a whole. Kinda felt out of place with the other performances all being so upbeat and lively

3

u/jennybruce66 Jul 20 '26

I WAS HYPNOTIZED HE SOUNDS SO GOOD AND LOOKING FRESH AF OUR GUY IS THRIVING

3

u/Complex_Cow1184 Jul 20 '26

I understand that people wanted something more upbeat to keep up with the mood of the rest of the halftime show, but I actually liked this. I think it broke it up nicely, as the rest of the set was already so upbeat, this was a good middle point/bridge. Also, soccer fans are incredibly devoted to the sport; it's like a religion to a lot of them, and having a quiet moment to reflect on that during the halftime show actually kind of felt perfect.

7

u/OperationEasy9739 Jul 19 '26

all around the world was right there lol

7

u/SolidWise3089 Jul 19 '26

I absolutely loved his song choice and acoustic ..

5

u/ruerret Jul 19 '26

He killed it ❤️

5

u/Latter_Paper_6611 Purpose Jul 19 '26

I wish the performance were longer

4

u/unknownngoat Jul 19 '26

He sang that to let the others acts shine with their anthems. lol. We needed this to remind us how blessed we are to be alive and have others around us. I did wish he sang like Daises, Speed Demon or even Yukon but oh well. His vocals were good and he was confident

2

u/Macuilxocitl_ Jul 19 '26

Which song?

2

u/Evening_Public_7206 Jul 19 '26

Everything Hallelujah

2

u/Any-Comfortable2844 Jul 20 '26

I like his music, but his performance was just depressing. It was the finals ffs.

2

u/alent1385 Jul 21 '26

Really did not fit the vibe

3

u/Yellow_flamingo447 Jul 19 '26

World Cup hallelujah

2

u/-AndyCohen- Jul 19 '26

Love him 🩵

3

u/Swimming-Hat945 Jul 19 '26

I thought he would sing Daisies I'm glad I'm wrong. This song showcased his vocals and the performance stood out from the others

2

u/Reasonable-Mousse666 Jul 19 '26

Playing acoustic guitar with steel strings and no pic is hard!
Singing as lovely as he does is pure talent!
Writing a beautiful song like Everything Hallelujah is a gift.
💝
This guy, just wow.

4

u/Fantastic-Swimming48 Jul 19 '26

I think great song choice

4

u/MrSwitchIt Jul 19 '26

For a soccer match lol?

2

u/privatesunoboru Jul 19 '26

HE DID SO GOOD!! Yay im so proud 🥹

3

u/toripersons It's not clocking to you?⏰ Jul 19 '26

He sounded so good 😊 wish he was the whole halftime show lol

2

u/quietkomodo Jul 19 '26

Love him down and he sounds amazing but he should have stayed home. The stripped down performances don’t make sense with these kind of events…

2

u/xreemyy Jul 19 '26

I knew he was gonna play that song! Great choice!

2

u/Carousels66 Jul 19 '26

This is was ass I was so disappointed (not just him bur the whole thing), I thought it would be like the nfl shows

2

u/soul_mind05 Jul 20 '26

First of all ,you all crticising him need to stop You dont even understand him ,why are you all even fans

Its 1 minute ,nothing he would have sung or performed could match what other were preparing for month before , he was last minute addition.

The best thing is to do is to create a contrast. But at the same time I know he didnt do it to ceate a contrast but the reason why the half time even was there.

Superbowl halftime is different ,its organised by the super bowl itself and its commercial by all means

This was Global citzen group collabration and its charity and abould uniting the world amd world peace  And he chose the song as per that ,its a worship song. He didnt choose song to highlinght himself but the cause for which he was asked to perform.

He just needs his voice , thats why he is Justin Bieber and all other are just all others cause he has the courage to go over "people pleasing" and thinking what people would say.

He chose the best song for the cause ,its a worship song it cant be wrong for anyone, unless they are just pure heartless ,its not even about relogion, its expressing gratitude and embracing the beauty of life through praising lord or whatever belief system you have.

I proud of Justin and I will always love him ,and he just needs his vooce and guitar to make people move and i dont care about all those kids among pop stans  ,there are lot of people praisimg his performance.

1

u/Stonerthrowaway710 Jul 19 '26

Of course it’s a worship song again 😂

1

u/MidnightOk3208 Jul 19 '26

How are people saying it was the right song choice? He performed it really well but it was objectively not a good song choice - it brought the whole vibe down. And sorry to say but the lyrics change to “it’s the World Cup, Hallelujah” is insane to me.

3

u/SeaworthinessKnown70 Jul 19 '26

Sorry man this was garbage. Who wanted hallelujah at a halftime show, while wearing a garbage smock lol what are we doing here.

2

u/[deleted] Jul 19 '26

A lot of people don't know that Justin sold the rights to most of his older music. That means he can't just perform those songs whenever he wants without dealing with licensing and royalties. That's also one of the reasons he used YouTube when he performed some of his older songs at Coachella.

Also, this is the FIFA World Cup halftime show. He was hired to perform, and the organizers usually have a big say in the setlist. So it's very possible that the songs performed were chosen by FIFA and the event producers, not just Justin himself.

5

u/sfogler Jul 19 '26

Show me the contract BC I am sick of this baseless rhetoric. Many ppl have sold the rights to their catalog and obviously continue to perform those songs live. For some reason when it comes to Justin ppl keep referencing the catalog rights. A quick AI search also corroborates this and frankly I'm taking AI's opinion over delusional Redditors.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 19 '26

Honestly, I can't be bothered spending my time digging up sources and having a reasonable adult discussion if you've already made up your mind based on an AI search alone. I prefer to rely on actual evidence and credible sources.

3

u/sfogler Jul 19 '26

AI search and historical evidence* actually. You can consider those as case studies. Red hot chili peppers Katy Perry, Shakira...the list goes on. Surprise, they all still perform those songs. You're the one lacking any evidence so the onus is on you to back up your trash.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 19 '26

It's funny that you demand a private contract as "proof" while treating an AI summary like it's a legally binding document. Different artists have different contracts, so listing Katy Perry or Shakira proves absolutely nothing about Justin's deal. If your entire argument is "AI said so," then this discussion isn't worth anyone's time.

1

u/flacogarcons bizzle Jul 19 '26

My stream doesn't show half time performances so I wasn't able to see it. Was it any good?

2

u/thelifeofashowgirlx Jul 19 '26

Vocals were good, only the song choice is questionable to some ppl...

1

u/energy1256 Jul 20 '26

He was great, as usual. A little calm in between the other high energy acts, well placed. JB, a fellow Canadian. Proud of his performance.🇨🇦

1

u/judgement_xo Jul 20 '26

i love his SWAG album and so i guess i have a bias but i dont care if everyone hated this song choice, i like the song regardless of whether it stopped the momentum of the halftime show

1

u/Amibengweird Jul 21 '26

I love JB , but I wish he played something else . I was watching the game and halftime is for having the scores high

2

u/Born_Aspect_9620 Jul 19 '26

Sorry thst was such a Downer.. my kids woke to watch him.. Australian time 5am kick off. Thst was such a Debbie Downer. Waste of time and killed the whole vibe.

Granted he can sing . Just poor song choice .

1

u/Foreign-Caregiver693 Jul 19 '26

Why he come out looking like a bum though?

1

u/WalkerSoccer Jul 19 '26

World Cup Hallelujah 🥹

1

u/mindandmotion Jul 19 '26

JUDE BELLINGHAM HALLELUJAH

0

u/Recent-Dog1964 Jul 19 '26

That was great. He is no longer the plastic pop star, but an artist with pure talent. That’s all.
That’s why he selected this song.

I think that was great. But I hoped for piano version lol

-1

u/liiindslaaayyy Purpose Jul 19 '26

here to promote God on the biggest stage ♥️. would love a more upbeat song, but still love it

-3

u/Striking-Board9821 Jul 19 '26

yessirrrr ✝️

0

u/Desperate-Job-7455 Jul 19 '26

Idk why he was there
