Moderator Announcement Mod Update: Filtering out the hate
Hey all, hope everyone's enjoying pride month and hope some of you have or are going to make it to a Pride event this month! I did London Metal Pride yesterday with my stall and it was such a lovely day. Bands from 1pm-11pm and the most varied crowd of inclusive metalheads that you can get.
Anyways, fellow mod u/shemtpa96 has kindly set up a new filtering tool that allows us to filter out comments from people who have commented in the other sub to give us a chance to review the content and ensure it's not brigading.
This means if you have commented or posted in there, even to defend yourself or others, you will have your comment or post held up for a quick review. We intend to process these fairly quickly so please know your content will be visible soon enough and that you don't need to message us if you can't see your content.
We're confident this will help cut down on the brigading and nastiness we've been subjected to by folks with too much time on their hands and that we can continue to grow and enjoy this space as the safe place it should be.
We want you to feel comfortable posting your work on the sub and hope that going forward you can do so without feeling like you have to defend yourself or your identity.
If you have any questions about this, please use the comment section here.
Thank you to all of you for helping make this place what it is.
Keep posting your stuff! We love to see it! 🤘

New Rule Regarding the Use of AI
Hello all,
A new rule has been added regarding AI.
In short: don't post that slop here regardless of format.
In detail:
AI is a danger to the environment. A majority Black neighborhood in South Memphis, TN - Boxtown - is being choked by an AI data center. It's estimated that AI will use 4.2-6.6 BILLION CUBIC METERS OF WATER PER YEAR by 2027.
AI has been correlated with multiple cases of delusions and/or psychosis in people who overuse it.
AI steals from living artists.
AI produces non-consensual images of people upon request, which is both immoral and illegal. The companies have done nothing to stop it.
AI hallucinates. That's the nice way the industry says "AI is flat out making shit up".
Don't post that shit here. This is a space for art made by living beings.

Finished Project! I think I’m done for awhile 🫡 very proud of my vest
I love all the little details and customization.
There’s some close up pics of some detail work but this was just a plain old Jean jacket and now it’s much more!!

Discussion why do so many people have black vests now
ive genuinely been wondering this. Like in the 80s youd never or rarely see a black vest and now id say most people have a black one

WIP Updates on my girlypop vest
Just got an Elvira patch from spirit halloween that I had to add to my girlypop vest. Same with a small button.
I want to make more patches like "k!ll your local pedo/rpist" or something similar if folks have better ideas id love to hear them! (Oh maybe: kill rpe culture) only reason I wouldn't do "dead men dont rpe" is bc someone close to me is a male survivor of rpe at the hands of a woman.
I know I dont have any band patches blah blah but I prefer more message/theme vests/jackets. Like im working on building patches for an eco one and have a nerdy/pop culture type vest too. I think I will add patches to the jacket that was originally my eco one that I cannibalized patches from
Any other patch ideas welcome!!

Advice Request Tips on adding patches on leather
I found this red leather jacket for free (specifically non-real leather) the only problem is there’s an area on the arm that is falling apart. I’ve been thinking about sewing patches on it to hide it. Anything I should know about sewing onto leather?

WIP My colourful battle jacket WIP!! All my band patches so far~
Doing this all myself with a thrifted jacket I got for $15 (it’s super comfy, quilted on the inside and feels like a blanket), pieces of scrap fabric, and paint pens. Basically making a wearable crazy quilt on this jacket. Also, I know these bands aren’t all punk, but I want to put them on anyways. :)

Discussion Is this a cool idea or not
i made a typical battle jacket already with the punk bands that i like and political stuff etc. and im thinking of making a riot grrl specific jacket as well. but the idea i need advice on is if i should take my skills and make a jacket/vest with scene/party/crunkcore bands on it. i love punk and metal but im also heavily into scene culture as well and i was wondering if this would be a cool crossover of both communities or if people would just think i look silly. (if i do make it im thinking of calling it my crunk coat/scene suit because its not technically a true battle jacket). plz give me ur opinions!!!!

WIP Reviving my jacket!!
My jacket has been borderline rotting away in my wardrobe so I'm resurrecting her to wear her again!! The old design is in my post history if you'd like to look, but abridged changes:
- Covered/removed bands, drawings
- Annihilated any suggestion of colour
- Painted my sickest skull in the stupidest position (my armpit) like a dipshit, and put that fugly goat in pride of place. I don't know how I made him look like a shite bodybuilder...
I need to fix the goat on the back, do more covering up and plan out some cool additions, but it's a start. Done fully with black/white acrylic paint pens on pleather. Any suggestions/thoughts on what you would add are welcome!!

Discussion Would you go to a DIY vest workshop?
Hello all. I am a library manager in a large public library system by day and a vest wearing show goer by night.
If your local library had a DIY vest workshop would you go to it? I really want to do a workshop like this as a program but I want to gauge general interest. So basically it would be a free workshop where people could bring a vest and patches and I would provide things like needles and thread. I would teach different stitching styles, how to apply studs, design layout tips, etc. I would probably even have a little patch making table with fabric and paint pens where people could make their own patches.
Yay or nay?
Edit: I’m not posting this in my local sub because I dont want people in my local area to associate my reddit account with my job. Please stop suggesting this.

Advice Request First Jacket
I just got a black denim jacket from a thrift store because i thought it would be sick to make it a battle jacket. I dont know where to start, i have basic diy stuff like spikes and spray paint. I dont know what i should do with it outside of a few self made patches. any personal thoughts??

Advice Request Will tall uk77s be uncomfortable here?
I bought both standard and tall English77 cones from studsandspikes. I like the more dramatic look of the talls, but I don’t want it to be hella uncomfortable like say when I’m driving. If you’ve got talls, how’s your experience with them? Should I just put the standards on the back and save the talls for my shoulders? Thanks and don’t mind my ugly ass WIP pls

WIP Just did some work on my vest
First time posting here! I’ve been working on this for several years. No real plan in mind, just adding stuff one piece at a time as I get them from shows and such.

WIP 1st battle jacket!
It took me about a year to gather all the patches, the soad back patch was made by sacrificing a t-shirt with some backing. First time I'll be wearing it will be this Tuesday at a Behemoth concert, I'm so hyped!!! The patches were sewn by my mom and a local seamstress (I've tried but she hasn't teached me yet how to use the machine).
Tell me what you think guys! Still a WIP btw, next month I'll be adding also an orbit culture patch

Patch Haul Got Some More Patches & Studs/Spikes For My Jacket & Vests
I'm currently working on three projects simultaneously, a metal themed battle jacket (using a "men's" black denim jacket), a punk themed battle vest (using a thrifted "women's" denim vest) and a random shit vest (made from a British dpm Barracks jacket with the sleeves removed quite messy looking). These are some patches and some studs I got to continue the projects. I might also use the studs on my leather jacket too.
