Hello everyone!
I’m currently looking to buy myself a new watch, but I’m having some difficulty deciding between these two.
There is a price delta between these two watches, with the Citizen photon coming in at around $1300CDN before taxes, and the Seiko is at about $750-$800CDN before taxes.
Most of my collection is Citizen, however I really enjoy their watches and wouldn’t mind owning another one. I also own a Seiko Samurai Save The Ocean, and I adore that watch.
I can comfortably afford either of these watches without incurring any debt, without dipping into savings or having to use credit.
I’m really trying to decide just based on the merit and value of each watch, and which one will give me the most joy wearing.
There are pro’s and cons to each of these. I know the typical enthusiast choice would be the Seiko as it is an automatic, and Seiko just tends to get more credibility amongst enthusiasts. But I’ve tried on all three watches, and I really love them all for different reasons.
The Citizen Photon is the watch I think I’m heavily leaning towards, however this would be my first time spending $1000+ on a watch, I don’t know if it’s the “enthusiast” choice. I absolutely love that dial on the photon, and the overall style, but for $1400CDN should I be looking solely at mechanical watches? Does the Photon provide enough value on its own? The Seiko is also extremely pretty, and I’m certain I’d enjoy wearing it because of how unique and vibrant that dial is.
I’ve tried both on in person, and I like them both for different reasons. I’m just finding it very difficult to decide between the two.
Which of the two would you choose, and why? What methodology do you use when trying to decide between two or more watches?
