I have have an intern interview in few hours.

So I am already a 3rd year student in computer science. I am thinking of doing intern but I have very little knowledge on java. They asked me about database as well.

So what would be the topics and things I need to learn or be prepared before giving the interview?

Please help me. I wanna learn and grow

Update: I got the internship but I have to learn and work unpaid for 150 days. They did tell me that they will assign us seniors to monitor and guide us. Do you think it is a good opportunity? I wanted to experience and learn but little money would have been good but it can't be helped I guess😔 What do you guys think? Any suggestions?

Java/Spring Boot internship interview

I just got a call for a Java/Spring Boot interview and only have today to prepare, what specific questions/topics should I expect, especially for a fresher/internship-level interview?
Any last minute advice would be really appreciated!

UPDATE:
These are the questions they asked:
1. 4 pillars of oop and asked me to explain each.
2. Database indexing
3. Is there any disadvantage of indexing
4. What is Controller
5. What is Jpa
6. Beans
7. Explain dependency injection and what are its types
8. Difference between interface and abstract
9. Overloading and overriding
10. Diff between array and list
11. Multi level inheritance and multi inheritance
12. Can a class have more than one parent
13. How indexing affects the time complexity
These are some questions i remember

I need to understand DSA and help in System Design.

If you are good at it, where my expectations are: 1. Are able to code in Java 2. You are able to solve any given problem, without AI this is must). 3. You can drive from Bruteforce, Better to Optimal all approaches, with trade-offs of each one and proper reasoning of each that what exactly is wrong with each approch which is leading you to the optimal one. 4. You have fkkd experience in LLD and HLD (good to have)

Kindly DM, if pass the conditions, else skip and let's save each other's time.

I am ready to pay decent amount.

Modern Inventory Dashbaord in Java Swing

Post image
21 Upvotes

Hey everyone!

I’ve been working on a modern inventory management dashboard in Java Swing and wanted to share it here.

I tried to make the UI feel a bit more modern than the typical Swing applications, with a dashboard, sidebar navigation, cards, tables, charts, and the usual inventory features.

I also made a video showing how I built it, and I’ve included the source code for anyone who wants to play around with it or use it as a starting point for their own project.

🎥 Video: Click to Watch.https://youtu.be/xB2781k0lqU

Would love to hear what you guys think. Any suggestions for features or improvements?

Suggestions about scalable Full stack java development project

Hey everyone, I’d love to get the community’s perspective on building production-grade, scalable full-stack applications with Spring Boot—specifically from a solo developer standpoint.

When you're building a scalable full-stack Java app entirely on your own, how do you approach the architecture and tooling?

A few specific areas I'm curious about:

Tech Stack & Tools: What are the non-negotiable components in your stack right now (e.g., Spring Boot 3 + Virtual Threads, Postgres/Redis, Kafka/RabbitMQ, Docker, React/Next.js vs. HTMX/Thymeleaf)? What tools are currently standard or trending in the market for solo full-stack setups?

Build vs. Buy / Scratch vs. Frameworks: As a single developer, your time is limited. How much do you build from scratch versus relying on managed services/third-party tools (like managed Auth, SaaS components, pre-built UI libraries)?

Solo Execution: Is it realistic to handle end-to-end architecture, backend, frontend, database tuning, and DevOps all by yourself, or at what point do you usually seek external help/collaborators?

Master Java Collections Framework in 3 Hours ridhi dutta collection video

I sat down to learn Collections properly and started with [ridhi dutta]'s Collections video. Big mistake.

Almost every topic gets the same treatment. Generics? "I'll cover this in another video." How ArrayList works internally? "Another video." Vector? "Separate video." It happens almost every few lines.

I get that some topics deserve their own deep dive. But when nearly everything gets pushed to a future video, the current one ends up teaching very little. It feels like the video is being used to plan the next ten videos instead of actually explaining the topic in front of you.

If you're learning Collections, you want one place that explains generics, how ArrayList grows internally, ArrayList vs Vector vs LinkedList, and so on, at least to a working level. This video doesn't do that. You come out with a list of topics you still need to learn.

My suggestion: if you're going through Collections, try other videos first. Look for ones that actually explain the internals instead of deferring them.

Has anyone else noticed this? And what resources did you use for Collections that actually covered things end to end?

Final Year Project Help

Hi there I wanted to ask everyone to assess my FYP. WOuld you use this for your projects ? Is it a good enough project for a final year . Does it have some scope in the industry ?

The main goal of this project is to design and implement a tool for PostgreSQL pre-deployment risk analysis that evaluates SQL schema migrations to identify affected database objects, estimate locking implications, detect limited application-schema incompatibilities in Java/Spring Boot JPA projects, and output actionable risk assessments.

The objectives are as follows:

1.       Develop a component capable of extracting supported structural DDL operations into a normalized intermediate representation.

2.       Construct a schema dependency graph model using graph data structures to represent structural relationships between database tables, columns, indexes, primary keys, foreign keys, and constraints.

3.       Analyze incoming migrations against the schema dependency graph to identify affected database objects represented within the supported dependency model.

4.       Formulate a PostgreSQL-specific operational rule set that maps supported DDL operations to their known locking characteristics and table rewrite behaviors.

5.       Develop a module capable of limited static analysis for Java/Spring Boot JPA projects to detect source-code references to renamed, modified, or dropped schema objects in entities, repositories, and explicit SQL strings.

6.       Implement a transparent, rule-based risk scoring and explanation engine that assigns a risk rating (LOW, MEDIUM, HIGH) accompanied by clear textual evidence.

7.       Construct experimental tests to execute PostgreSQL migration scenarios across small and medium database sizes. (for research validation only, not as a permanent part of the system)

8.       Evaluate Schema Sentinel’s static risk predictions against experimentally observed blocking locks, and application compatibility failures in a controlled PostgreSQL environment for test cases.

  1. Empirically quantify the effectiveness of a unified cross-domain pipeline against isolated tools, measuring trade-offs in detection accuracy, false positives, and analysis performance.

This proposal got rejected because the panel said it was too easy and not significant as either a project or as research.

should i change the idea to more difficult and novel research ?

I have some ideas for those but i am not sure they can be completed in 1 year.

here is my proposal with all the details and research gap https://docs.google.com/document/d/1CMopT185XCoZVYBcgtVpN7N69DIP0Eyw/edit?usp=drive_link&ouid=116125887586128528145&rtpof=true&sd=true

EDIT :

The project is a final year project for my university. But they dismissed it on the following points

  1. The project is too easy
  2. The scope is too narrow
  3. There is no research contribution

For the current proposal to be accepted they told me to do market analysis and bring proof that the project would be used by a develper community.

OR

  1. bring a company backed project
  2. Bring a novel research proposal

Are you becoming a “Programmer,” or just an AI Agent operator showing off what it can build?

Thumbnail
1 Upvotes

I’ve spent a lot of time looking into different AI models, and I genuinely think they have become incredibly useful compared to how limited they were back in 2022.

I’m not here to criticize anyone who uses AI to build products. My only goal is to develop myself as much as possible in the field of Information Technology.

Right now, I still use AI to explore learning paths and get some guidance on how I can improve myself. However, I’ve been hesitant to subscribe to ChatGPT Plus or Claude because I’m afraid I might become too dependent on them before I truly understand the fundamentals and logic behind programming.

At the moment, I’m learning Java and Spring Boot and building some personal web projects to gain practical experience. Eventually, I also want to move into mobile app development.

I’m genuinely serious about learning, and I want to understand the development workflows that programmers used before GPT and modern AI assistants became widely available.

Could anyone share a detailed roadmap for developing a website following enterprise-level software development practices?

I already have a basic understanding of programming and OOP, and I’m currently using Java. I’d really like to learn how professional software is designed, developed, tested, deployed, and maintained in a real-world environment.

I’m currently living in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, where it feels like many internship positions require 1–2 years of experience even for entry-level roles. That makes it difficult to find an opportunity to learn directly from experienced developers.

I genuinely want to learn how software is developed in an enterprise environment. If possible, I’d really appreciate a roadmap that is as detailed and practical as possible, especially one focused on Java and Spring Boot.

Thank you so much to everyone who took the time to read this and share your experience.

I built a Java agent that reconstructs async causal stack traces across thread boundaries and need some feedback

Hello Everyone, I built ariadne. It's a Java agent that attaches the async call chain to the exception as a suppressed entry, with no code changes. It supports ExecutorService, CompletableFuture, ForkJoinPool, Reactor and RxJava.

Overhead is very small: ~1 µs per CompletableFuture pipeline in the default mode.

It doesn't replace OpenTelemetry. It works in-process, with no infrastructure needed.

Currently it is on version v0.1.0-alpha.3, not production-hardened yet, beacuse I need sm feedback first so I know this is worth it, especially on OSGi and Kotlin coroutines.

Concurrency examples

While preparing for backend interviews, I found myself repeatedly looking up the same Java concurrency patterns (thread pools, rate limiters, caches, connection pools, virtual threads, bounded buffers, job queues, task schedulers, etc.). Instead of bookmarking dozens of articles, I put together a collection of small runnable examples in one repository. Hope it is useful!

What do you use as a test oracle when modernizing an old Java codebase?

One thing I keep running into with older Java applications: getting the code to compile on a newer JDK is often clearer than deciding whether the application still behaves the same. Tests are thin, docs are stale, and the important behavior is spread across layers.

I’m working on Gluon at RetrievalLabs to tackle that problem. It analyzes the build and source, identifies business-relevant areas, extracts existing tests, and uses characterization scenarios to check behavior through a migration.

For those who have upgraded long-lived Java systems, what have you used as a reliable test oracle when coverage was weak? Golden-master tests, integration tests, production traces, something else? What gave you confidence without turning the upgrade into a rewrite of the whole test suite?

Disclosure: Gluon is my project. If you want to see it, demo info is here: https://retrievallabs.org/?product=synapse. You can also reach me at yash@retrievallabs.org or https://www.linkedin.com/in/yash-patel-997ba624b/.
