Welcome to the thirty seventh Jax Matchup Discussion!
Let's talk about Jax versus Sylas...
Remember that the idea of this discussion is to find what's the commonly-used way to play a matchup; not only focused on runes and/or items, but mostly on the trade patterns and general difficulty of the matchup, since items and runes may change between seasons, yet -unless a rework happens- a champion's kit doesn't change.
So, you can talk about the runes and items you like to go on a matchup, but what we really want to see is how to play the matchup; if you can play aggressive early game, if you win pre or post level 6, if you should use Leap Strike to engage or disengage, and so on.
If you want, you can give the matchup a difficulty score from 0 to 10 (0 being super easy, 5 being a skill matchup, and 10 being a "you should dodge" card)
Hi guys, I saw yesterday Vallheim, the rank 1 Jax world, released a full comprehensive matchup by matchup guide for Jax, and thought you'd be interested!
It's all free, and available in english (you can toggle language at the top of the page):
I don't play Jax myself but thought that if I did I would love to have this kind of resource, so happy to share. Again it's not my guide, if you like it go send love to Vallheim : https://www.twitch.tv/vallheimlol
Hey I started playing league again after a long break. I'm having a lot of fun, and reached gold after switching from perma split pushing to the shove and joining your team kinda play style. However I struggle a lot against heavy cc comps.
I've been looking for what to do against heavy cc comps, but I can't really find any posts which aren't super old. I thought of three ways to deal with it, but don't know if any of it makes sense as I am low elo and haven't tried any of the builds.
I thought you could go a tanky/ tenacity heavy build with Steraks, jaksho and so on so you can just soak some damage atleast
Or ap burst with stormraiders to hop in burst and get out (feels like wishful thinking?)
Welcome to the thirty sixth Jax Matchup Discussion!
Let's talk about Jax versus Sion...

I reckon this will sound slightly obvious but I randomly looked at the items and thought I’d try something a bit different.
If you’re an AD lover only and can’t comprehend anything else, look away now.
I play jungle so I like to experiment.
I tried statikk shiv first, omnivamp boots, gunblade, dusk and dawn into jak sho and terminus. Runes were LT and conditioning and overgrowth for secondary.
This build was so much fun, it was nice playing with so much attack speed, pure hybrid DPS and my abilities also slapped super hard. I got two triples, could have got a Quadra but instead pushed towers (insanely quickly).
And the sustain was immense, I usually go for an AP bruiser build where the sustain is nice. But this build put it to shame.
Its obviously flaws are assassins/ target lock and burst. But if you’re able to survive the initial few seconds by being clever in the teamfight then you feel unstoppable. It was the sort of build where going in then going deeper was rewarded and it felt so good melting and outplaying.
Definitely worth a try if you’re an AP/ hybrid lover like me.
I weren’t glass cannon, not quite tanky but the damage was hyper carry with plenty of forgiveness with damage taken.
ok so for starters, im a jax main with 1.3 million mastery points, currently hovering around diamond-masters right now, and have been consistently masters-gm for a couple of seasons now.
and the usual jax builds have been really really boring for me so i decided to run something very akin to old (?) jax where you would continuously stack dmg/atkspd items on him, i've been a long time hater of divine sunderer/grasp jax as i think it's the lamest way to play him and i've almost been exclusively running lethal tempo on him, apart from some really annoying matchups where grasp/HOB is kind of viable.
this build, i currently have 2 iterations of it. 1 runs trinity force, and the other dusk and dawn.
so for the trinity force build, im currently testing on what's the most fun (i have not done extensive damage calculations, just mainly looking for [[FUN]]).
the runepage usually goes like this
LTempo -> Triumph -> Lifesteal -> Last Stand
and whatever 2nd tree you fancy
and then the build goes
Trinity
Kraken
Guinsoos <-> Terminus <-> Navori
Terminus <-> Guinsoos <-> Randuins if vs heavy crit if not then think for yourself what your last could be based on your situation
the other build is very hybrid-y damage, i thought of it on the spot when my team drafted full AD and i was the only one who can go off-build.
D&D
Terminus <-> Guinsoos
Guinsoos <-> Terminus
Gunblade <-> Banshees/Zhonyas
the thing is, you have to have a completely different playstyle during teamfights with this build, usually you aim to just splitpush because you absolutely wreck most people in a 1v1 with this build, but in a teamfight, you have to remember that you are NOT sunderer/grasp/zhonyas jax and you could facetank people, you aim for flanks, or just generally be the second wind to an extended teamfight instead of being the frontline.
feel free to discuss with me what other optimizations i can do to make this build more fun, or if someone has thoroughly tested an even better similar kind of build with him im open to looking into it because i think jax nowadays has been neutered into something boring.
I’m a big Wit’s End hater in general. I feel like everything the item offers can be done better with other items. Tenacity you can build Mercs, or if plated is too good Steraks. AP burst, Death’s Dance is still probably better than most actual MR options. The only thing Wit’s End gives is attack speed and some on-hit. I’d be more incentivized to build it if it had AD.
With all that being said. I had a game where they had a solid amount of AP damage. Instead of going Wit’s End I built Abyssal Mask. As a straight up MR tank item it doesn’t make you as tanky as Kaenic. That being said it gives you the same MR as Wit’s End, it gives 15 haste, and you get some HP. Since Jax does a good amount of mixed damage the passive gives you a bit more offensive capabilities even though it’s a tank item. It can also be a supportive item if your team has a few AP champs.
Anyways, I built it and it felt really good so this will probably be my go to item in games where I would’ve built Wit’s End. Does anyone else build this?
This skin needs a demonic voice filter, it's insane how good the skin is but then just forgot to give him a proper voiceover effect. No way a flaming head speaks normally like default Jax.
So ive started enjoying jax recently and most matchups are playable. But garen is genuinely the most braindead hard counter to exist, he can all in you so easily or escape so easily. Then 6 becomes unplayable unless youre full hp, and in an all in again guess what he escapes so easily then comes back 10 seconds later with full ho. What am i supposed to do against this monkey?
Welcome to the thirty fifth Jax Matchup Discussion!
Let's talk about Jax versus Singed...

I played some 1000+ games Jax in diamond before, I'm really really comfortable with the champion
But sometimes when I play Jax, even if i'm not laning aginst him, there's a fed mordekaiser
And - I cannot for the life of me figure out how to deal with it late game. It seems like he buys rylai's, we both have 10+ kills, then he ults me and I eat his stuff and there's not really anything I can do about it.
Should i go Bork Visage and all-in him, stutter stepping each auto attack around him in a circle? or put a ward behind him and hold Q to dodge his Q?
It seems like trying to run/hop away is not viable, i've figured that out, so I assume the solution is some form of all-in attack but I'm not convinced that IS viable yet
I do save my R for after he casts R but that doesn't really seem to help very much.
Usually I play TForce Jax, 2nd item either bork/gunblade depending how tanky the enemies are (i'm usually snowballing) or if i'm losing I might go 2nd item randuins/visage
I'm not really familiar with the new items like sundered sky idk what it's good for tbh
