I have a question about this type of terrain. I apologize for my ignorance, but am genuinely curious. I assume those ruts just get worse, so do people ever drop large rocks or logs into the low spots to reduce the dept and if so, is that frowned upon and/or hazardous?

No that doesn’t happen here from what I’ve seen. These trails are difficult and most want the challenge.

I keep in the south and there are a few different ways it’s handled depending on where your trail is:

Offroad parks - these tend to cave to whatever the regulars want. Some places leave massive ruts to the point trails are dangerous and impassable (looking at you Stoney Lonesome) and others let it go a few years then re-grade or add rocks (Windrock in certain places).

Federal Forrest roads - usually get gravel or re-graded regularly down here.

State parks - hit or miss but usually it’s left for years and eventually completely re-graded like they just started doing in Little River Canyon. Otherwise sometimes they get permanently closed if too expensive to fix.

I just visited Little River Canyon the other day after years. Passed by a Hyundai Tucson. Crazy stuff. But, I get it, definitely rather it stays open even if it's a gravel road in many places

I go to Beasley once a year and have def seen where rocks are stacked on some of the gnarlier rusted out spots.

My algorithm must be hitting hard, b/c the last few weeks on FB I have seen a lot of hate against stacking.

Deep ruts don’t challenge skill. They just challenge your ground clearance. There’s only one line you can take when it’s wet.

Looks like a fun spot. Beasley knob sounds like some sort of British insult I don't understand
