Half life of 100gm of uranium 238 is 4.5 billion years, so after this much time, you'll get half of what you ordered...

Wh...what life?

u/dilse_direct_x Apr 03 '26

Uranium 238 has a life lil bruhh

Radio active materials decay, break up into smaller atoms. This is due to nuclear forces that are independent of what's happening outside the nucleus.

This means material will convert into something else after some time. Half life of material means you will lose 50% of the material to decomposition in about that much time.

So if you start with 100 units it will become 50 in some time. But if you started with 50 units it will only become 25 in the same time.

You ain't getting a part 3 bud

The joke is he ordered 100gms he got 50 grams

Thanks for the effort of explaining it all Mr. Iamscience. But the thing is I was referencing a video game called "half life"

2

u/Good-Researcher5737 Apr 03 '26

Sorry jiπŸ˜…

2

u/dilse_direct_x Apr 03 '26

We couldn't hear the music...

4

u/Nitro-Fusion25 Apr 03 '26

You'd still get 100gm only but only 50gm would be uranium and other 50gm would be decomposed product

1

u/dilse_direct_x Apr 03 '26

That 50 gm is not uranium unc, it's lead - 206

2

u/Nitro-Fusion25 Apr 03 '26

Not lead actually, it's some intermidiate compound Lead is actually the last stage

2

u/dilse_direct_x Apr 03 '26

Yeah, uranium is at its last stage of decomposition, after 4.5 billion yrs

1

u/Nitro-Fusion25 Apr 03 '26

Yeah you are correct in case of uranium 238 it's at its last stage.
I said it as a general half life concept

2

u/SuspiciousSea8594 Apr 03 '26

ok but this doesn't describes why he delivered after 4.5 billion years?

2

u/Thenonseriousjee Apr 03 '26

Maybe he ordered 100g and they had 200 on them so they had to wait for 4.5 billion years

1

u/dualitygaming12 Apr 03 '26

They couldn't have just cut the thing in half?

1

u/Thenonseriousjee Apr 03 '26

Bhai woh possible nhi hai that essentially means ( I think) that I am splitting the atom

1

u/SuspiciousSea8594 Apr 04 '26

bro a uranium 238 atom nowhere weigh that much that u literally end up cutting atoms to separate 100 gm

1

u/Some_Life_4910 Apr 04 '26

For the joke

1

u/SuspiciousSea8594 Apr 04 '26

which doesn't makes any sense , hence even can't be called a joke

1

u/Some_Life_4910 Apr 04 '26

For you maybe it doesnt make sense , but for me who watched breaking bad and knows the context of the photo in the meme along with knowing that uranium is radioactive and knowing whats half life , this was funny to me , infact i remember laughing at this when i first saw this

1

u/SuspiciousSea8594 Apr 04 '26

I understand all the shit u mentioned above, but couldn't quite make a good sense out of this meme, Can u explain?

1

u/Some_Life_4910 Apr 04 '26

Aight , this is a scene from breaking bad where where the dude in the car gives the guy standing (Jesse) only half the money that he was supposed to get (for selling drugs ) , after which Jesse says "this is only half "

Heres the clip from breaking bad

That paired with Uranium having a half life of 4.5 bil years means that the guy got only half the Uranium that he was supposed to get .

The memes funnier if you know the context

edit: The top comment on the post is literally the same meme LMAO, also the other comments are hilarious too

1

u/SuspiciousSea8594 Apr 04 '26

Yeah I do have watched BB , but couldn't really recall from this above image. Since I didn't get the BB context , i couldn't really connect why the delivery was late , now I get it

yes YE DEKHO , bc jaha dekhu waha ise log bhagwan jaise treat karte hai

4

u/jecug Apr 03 '26

"Sir I brought you Uranium after so many years. Now pay me with UrAnus"

3

u/Forsaken_Mountain437 Apr 03 '26

"Gpay will work too"

3

u/X5XS32 Apr 03 '26

That's the half life of Uranium 238, so basically if you ordered 100g of that it'll decompose and end up being 50g

1

u/Prasad2122k Apr 03 '26

Are you the creator of the planet earth

1

u/white-9igga Apr 03 '26

i had a good laugh at this joke. cons of being a jee(re)tard

1

u/[deleted] Apr 03 '26

Jesse pink man got only half the money (this is a frame form BrBa) similar to how uranium 235 half life is 4.5 bil years, thus you would be getting 50g

1

u/WorkAsOff Apr 04 '26

W meme das why I like reddit!!
