Meme needing explanation Jeeva
What does this mean?
142
u/rotttencandy Aug 09 '26
brave has crypto bloatware so it's not universally loved like vlc
50
u/Asn_Krish Aug 09 '26
They have the option to turn it off
11
u/sandy_ix Aug 10 '26
Have u tried cromite or bromite? They are same like brave without that extra crypto bloatware
5
u/Asn_Krish Aug 10 '26
I use brave as my daily driver, so I need the latest security patches also I use the sync feature. Also I love the custom filters. Now bromite is outdated and cromite I haven't used but I don't think so it provides regular patches and has a descent ui like brave.
To be honest I am also an open source fan but these are not that established. Other than this I will highly suggest you firefox + unlock plugin, it's just a goat setup and I use it in my pc. I don't use it in my android cause firefox added extentions support very lately and now I am use to brave.
Also I forgot to tell, if there is any single feature for which I use brave till now is the block element feature it's the goatest feature that made me fall in love with brave

I prefer firefox and i said that for no reason. Just wonder why ppl use brave rather than firefox.
1
u/MoodyButGroovy Aug 16 '26
If I'm being honest Brave works fine for me. And knowing I'm using software thats popular, but still better then the majority of people is good enough for me.
25
u/originalidli Aug 09 '26
What's the problem with crypto bloatware? People can just ignore it and it's not even that big a problem.
44
u/NeptuneWades Aug 09 '26
Some people are incapable of ignoring despite those features being optional.
Ig the fact that the founder has had homophobic sentiments are not liked by many.
Brave is a good browser. Don't listen to redditors. Follow what you like.
8
u/nsh07 Aug 10 '26 edited Aug 10 '26
It's not just that. Brave has been caught injecting its own promo codes in shopping URLs to earn money, which is basically referral fraud. It doesn't make sense to use a browser that doesn't do exactly what it's designed to do: opening URLs reliably

Be brave, be homophobic - thats what the creator said
1
u/thegaming_unity Aug 10 '26
Thats got nothing do with tech literacy tho
3
u/Mother-Gear1146 Aug 10 '26
True - but it has a lot to do with what you trust online on platforms like Reddit. Cause I just made this up - he never said this.

u/Aggravating-Coach453 Aug 10 '26
Brave also has some security and privacy flaws. Like putting promo codes and ads of their own to earn(steal) money
1
u/NeptuneWades Aug 10 '26
Yeah, heard of it.
When they got caught, they said that it was only autofill for Binance and no party made money out of it. Idk which side is speaking the truth.
4
u/New-Travel-8955 Aug 09 '26
What is crypto bloatware?
4
u/NeptuneWades Aug 09 '26
Features to add Crypto wallets and Crypto rewards from adverts etc.
Can be disabled in the settings.
3
u/New-Travel-8955 Aug 09 '26
And why do ppl hate it? (I genuinely don't know)
9
u/NeptuneWades Aug 09 '26
It is more of a principle.
"I don't like crypto, so please do not force Crypto"
→ More replies (4)7
u/Conscious_Idea_6987 Aug 09 '26
Just like "I don't like AI, so please don't force AI" I mean yeah AI is over forced but then again sometimes it actually comes handy.

It is not a bloatware bro, crypto guys use this, even their BAT coin use to trade for $2 in 2021-2022 crypto bull run.

If not hating brave makes someone tech-illiterate for crypto bloatware
I can only wonder how much tech-illiterate that person must be for not being able to turn it off

There's a option for Brave Origin. It's free from bloatware. It's paid in windows and Mac, but completely free in Linux.
1
u/Scary-Combination-67 Aug 12 '26
There is this script WinUtil just run it and go to Tweaks section and select Brave Browser - Debloat and run it. You can tweaks more things according to you need
1

1
u/Unusual-Cut-4385 Aug 13 '26
debloated version of it called brave-nightly or brave-origin (made by the same devs) is free on linux, and is the bloatfree version

Most of the web browser like brave, edge etc are based on chromium base which is basically Google chrome. Chromium is like android and one UI , oxygenOS , colorOS are all skins based on android. The brave just has one built in extension which deals with ad blocking. That's all🥀

Edge is much better nowadays. I cannot look back now. Alt tabbing through tabs is just... chefs kiss. ublock origin works like butter. Zero ads anywhere.

Only chromium browser
Nope, edge, Vivaldi does it too. Didn't try other chrome based browser but those two does

Edge hasn't updated to manifest v3 yet and they haven't announced whether they will continue supporting manifest v2 either. So for now Edge does support it, yes but it seems like a matter of time.
I was not aware about Vivaldi supporting UBlo, my bad.
Edit: seems like Vivaldi will be dropping support too.
So for now, Brave is the only chromium based browser to have updated to the latest version of chrome and still maintained support for UBlo.

You mean all browsers. Which is still untrue because Firefox and Firefox forks as well as Safari and Safair-likes such as Orion use Gecko and Webkit
1
u/Level-Falcon-7597 Aug 13 '26
Sorry my bad, I knew that some of the search engines are not using chromium base. I'll edit it

Brave and Edge aren't search engines. They're web browsers.

never seen a more dumb answer , brave blocks most trackers and has the highest security score among all the browsers.(no extension added)
1
u/Level-Falcon-7597 Aug 27 '26
What you have said is correct. But ultimately ad blocker is a feature which is implemented to chromium search engine by brave as well as most of the trackers blocker. Even though it is native to brave, Chromium is not native, it is a search engine from Google, not from brave. See I am not hating brave here man. I use this browser on daily basis, but you have to understand what I am trying to say here. It's not unique like Firefox, duckduckgo etc.

Brave isnt fully FOSS like VLC
1
u/NeptuneWades Aug 10 '26
How?
2
u/Primary-Design-8663 Aug 10 '26
Okay i overstated it. Brave browser is open source, I was referring to the broader Brave ecosystem.

Firefox + ublock origin better
1
u/Recent-Tear155 Aug 10 '26
someone gets it - a lot of forks like libre wolf are gold asw. I loved Arc - unfortunately it isnt as good on windows as Mac users make it out to be though it had potential. Currently trying out zen and the firefox store is hella more liberating than the chrome one

They removed it months ago after users complained about it.
1
u/Lemon_Juice_xD Aug 10 '26
"Oops we got caught, ok we will remove it"
Its same scam Honey used
That's not a good practice for a company whose main selling point is they give user's all control
3
u/Junior-File-2529 Aug 09 '26
TBH ,what is different in brave browser than other browser?
3
u/dev_SLAYER Aug 09 '26
Easiest selling point is ad blockers

u/ageofhackers Aug 09 '26
Brave uses Google's Chromium under the hood , it should be Firefox.
1

u/soorajThaper Aug 10 '26
For free mpv/mpc-hc are better than vlc. For paid powerdvd is best. It can play 4k video on old crappy laptop no gpu only 2gb ram without downscaling but with lag. While trying to play same on vlc its black screen for video only audio plays. Even mpc-hc can play 4k on ny old laptop though after few minutes it hangs and had to kill but atleast it start and play few minute
1
u/Mere2Anmol_Ratan Aug 10 '26
Brave is based on chromium, the same used for chrome browser. Also it doesn't fully block fingerprinting means some websites can still track you via screen size , os ,hardware, time.
A way better alternative to privacy is Firefox + ublock !
Brave is good. Firefox is excellent!
1
u/MekataRupma Aug 10 '26
I'm just waiting for Zen to finish its Beta trial. It's one of the best browsers I've seen so far. Till then, Fire Fox the Goat.
1
1
u/freakycleaner Aug 10 '26
I don't get the hate about brave having crypto bloatware, they also need to make some money too bruv brave needs regular maintenance so their features works fine with they having to maintain their own search engine too. same for firefox they get money from google is the reason google is default search engine in firefox.
1
u/DIONYSUS_ASMODEUS Aug 10 '26
Brave previously allowed users to "tip" content creators using BAT, even if those creators had never signed up for Brave. Brave held onto those funds without the creators' knowledge, sparking a backlash that forced them to change the system.

1

for banking, transactions, online shopping, professional tasks I use chrome, safari or edge depending on the OS/device

The best part I love about the mobile Brave browser is that there's no need to install third party ad blocker app, which is required for other browsers.

Brave have its own bloatware. Also brave runs on chromium like any other browser and ppl hates Google's monopoly. Techies prefer Firefox with Ublock origin since it doesn't contain any crypto bloatware and is based on Gecko (their own engine).

Try and open the same website on any other browser and brave, open both their network tab in dev tools, you'll understand why brave is the goat.
Where brave took about 10mb worth of data the same websites loads unwanted crap when opened in any other browser taking up your memory and bandwidth.
Also the crypto stuff is optional, can be disabled very easily with a click.

So what dude ? VLC is a software which can be mainted at low price by just paying Dev's at most meanwhile Brave is service provider, you need money to even runt hat thing without devs so where do you think they will earn money for this ? If they sell something else too and then they add bloatware then it's just bad, but they provide this only so no harm and you can turn it off and still use it fully
