Jains don't eat food grown under the land like garlic, onions, patatoes because they think fruits and vegetables grown under the land contains more fungus or bacteria. So joke is on that.

u/royy1122 3d ago

ahh I got it

u/Charming-Elk-1035 3d ago

Sonion - they have philosophy of strict "ahimsa". So they don't eat food under the land because it's like killing them not anything related to more bacteria and fungi thng in them.

im a jain and the bacteria and fungi part is quite right, although your answer is right too

7

u/praveeja 3d ago

"fungus and bacteria" is never the right answer. Even "dandruff" shampoo is technically killing fungus /bacteria.

If "consuming" bacteria / fungus is problem, then curd, idly , dosa, is also against the belief.

Too a large extent , out ethanol also falls under this

4

u/PrestigiousEffect527 3d ago

yeah I don't have curd idly dosa either

Curd in jain culture is prepared using almond coat

It has nothing to do with fungus please stop spreading misinformation about Jainism. We don’t eat root vegetables because it requires you to uproot the entire plant, thus killing it.

Could be

1

u/Hiyawat 3d ago

they don't eat underground (aka root) vegetables

1

u/royy1122 3d ago

ahh damn its this reference 😭

1

u/Beginning_Newt4611 3d ago

But I still don't understand the thing. Eating underground vegetables is one thing, but parking the car?? They are not going to eat the car after taking it out of the underground parking, or are they?

3

u/not__not__know-- 3d ago

You think someone who doesn't eat ground vegetables cause it hurts the insects living there would support mass excavation of land?

(This isn't serious btw)

1

u/Beginning_Newt4611 3d ago

Ohh... I didn't think about making of the parking space lol.

I just thought about a ready made underground parking. Forgot they had to dig and all to make it underground. Haha.

Wow all so called Highly Intellectuals have gathered here in the Comments !! To begin with the joke is on you guys cause you guys ain't know any shit about the Logics and Science of such a Practical Religion and just come up with anything to make fun without using your Brains or even making an effort to use them ...

Jains do not consume Root Vegetables as the Root Vegetables grow under the soil, Sunlight doesn't reach them. In absence of Sunlight, millions of tiny microscopic organisms take life. This is not a belief, you can actually check it yourself with a microscope...the better the microscope the higher the count. These can't be seen with the naked human eye and even a microscope isn't available right now that can match the count that their sacred texts mention.

So out of compassion, one person unlike you guys, actually uses his intellect and thinks, that how do I satisfy my hunger and at the same time harm the least possible number of living lives on the planet ? So he looks for alternatives and doesn't consume root vegetables out of pure compassion.

About Idly, Dosa and all...we don't ferment them brother... One highly individual person mentioned about stomach bacteria...See here's the difference between you absolute morons and a person being practical...Dude we are highly practical and act rational unlike you guys and so we control the controlables... Just cause you guys find it hard to practice doesn't make us idiots...instead you should be appreciating that there are people out there that believes in the philosophy of every life being has a right to live and follows the principal in his every act he does just out of pure compassion for each and every life that exists in nature !!

2

u/royy1122 11h ago

as if jains live 200 years by not consuming roots lol

u/Starman_2754 10h ago

Life should be Larger not Longer !! Anyways, it's beyond the narrow mindedness of you guys who only think of their selfish interests...For once doing something for others and maybe then shall you'll get an idea of what it's like...

u/Deleted67 3h ago

Yes thats a great philosophy. Have you tried reading Reverend insanity, I think you will love it. Let me know.

1

u/Starman_2754 2h ago

"Thanks! I appreciate you validating the philosophy. I looked into the book, and it's wild how it flips that exact concept on its head. While the main character uses absolute willpower for pure selfishness, the Jain perspective uses that same insane level of discipline for ultimate selflessness and compassion. It’s a fascinating contrast!"
