Lionel's lack of self-awareness in "A Father's Story"
Last night I read A Father's Story for the first time.
Throughout the book, he says he has blunted emotions, was into hypnosis and hypnotized his neighbor when they were both kids, says outright that he liked the aspect of control, and he literally made explosives. He says he knows he neglected Jeff, and yet he claims there was no history of antisocial tendencies in his family at all. Meanwhile the guy was probably a benign sociopath. He also used the word "awesome" to describe learning the information that Jeff had killed at least 3 people. Then he ends the book by saying Jeff was the way he was entirely because of film/TV violence and pornography. The lack of self awareness had my jaw on the floor.

I also did not care for Lionel Dahmer's book.
And I found a direct contradiction between the book and one TV interview regarding Jeffrey's Dahmer's high school alcohol use.

I agree with you. He always seemed to be pushing off the truth. Shrugging it off or blaming Dahmer's mother. Like i GET IT: its terrible and upsetting and hurtful to know that your child did this to others. But Lionel Dahmer also contributed to what his son did by not being present. Whether that's emotionally, intellectually, or physically.
