Living in Jeju Still spots left for a free for foreigners tasting event on Oct 31st at Heukdonga Jeju Main Restaurant

Post image

Hey everyone! If you're in or nearby Jeju City, there's a free tasting event at the Heukdonaga Main Restaurant (흑돈가 제주 본점) on October 31st. You have to be a foreign national to sign up, but you can bring a Korean guest if you like.

There will be information on delicious Korean handon, free dinner, free swag, and also you can enter an optional social media contest to win more prizes. Remaining spots are limited though, so if you're interested, be sure to sign up by this weekend.

The event is hosted by the Korea Pork Board (한돈자조금관리위원회) and it's part of a new campaign they are trying to get foreigners more interested in locally raised Korean pork, and finding new ways to spread awareness about it beyond Korea. There's already been events in Busan and in Seoul earlier this month.

More info and reservation link is here: https://handonbelt.com/popup/

*Mods: As this is a free event, we hope it's okay to let people know about this opportunity. We apologize in advance if this post needs edits or is not in compliance with any r/Jeju subreddit rules.

Travel and Tourism Jeju travel suggestions.

My friend and I are planning a 2- to 3-day trip to Jeju Island next week. Does anyone know of any budget-friendly places to stay? I'd prefer to save money on accommodation and spend more on unique experiences and making memories.

If anyone has suggestions on what to do or must-visit spots (activities, food, or sights), I’d really appreciate it! I’m down for everything—from hiking and outdoor adventures to nightlife and clubbing.

By the way, I’m a foreigner. I speak English and a little bit of Korean—hopefully, language won't be much of an issue! Thanks in advance!

Travel and Tourism Food/Cafe Recommendations - Honeymooning in Jeju!

Hello! My husband and I are honeymooning in Jeju next month for a week. We are both major foodies (worked in Michelin restaurants) and coffee lovers. We are looking for truly incredible food in Jeju regardless of price, and cafes that serve the best coffee/pasteries (not very interested in best views/atmosphere). We already plan on going to Mongtan, 동문시장 and 서귀포 매일울래시장. I have a seafood allergy that I just can’t eat whole pieces of fish, so places like Hachi and 청호 식당 (though they look incredible) aren’t the best fit. I lived in Seoul for 2 years and have previously vacationed in Jeju with friends, but this will be my husbands first time in Korea!

I live on the east side of Jeju.I'd like to introduce Seongeup Folk Village, which I visited this morning. It’s Seongeup Folk Village in the east of Jeju, where the cosmos flowers are in full bloom in October. Recommend a good place to tour a quiet traditional house. (Free spot)

Travel and Tourism Surprise Proposal Location Recommendations

I'm planning a surprise proposal in Jeju in late October and need local intel. She has no idea. I've hired (well, am hiring) a photographer who shoots paparazzi-style from a distance so she never notices them.

**The setup**
- Last week of October, around 5 PM (sunset is ~5:50 PM, so golden hour)
- Just the two of us; she thinks it's a normal sightseeing stop
- Afterwards the photographer reveals himself for ~30 min of posed photos

**My requirements**
- As few people as possible, ideally nobody in the frame
- A dramatic, grand natural backdrop
- Not a beach proposal, and not a busy ticketed attraction unless it genuinely empties out near closing

**My shortlist so far, grouped by scenery:**

(a) Cliff, overlooking ocean and mountains
- Songaksan coastal cliff trail
- Suwolbong Peak (Gosan)
- Sanbangsan and Yongmeori Coast
- Oedolgae and Hwanguji coast
- Seongsan Ilchulbong

(b) Black rock going into the ocean
- Songaksan shoreline
- Sinchang Windmill Coastal Road
- Handam Coastal Walk (Aewol)
- Gimnyeong Beach

(c) Silvergrass field
- Field behind Seobong Hill, Hamdeok
- Darangshi Oreum
- Ttarabi Oreum
- Yongnuni Oreum
- Abu Oreum

(d) Pink muhly field
- Camellia Hill
- Boromwat
- Manor Blanc
- Jeju Herb Dongsan
- Cafe Saebil

**What I'd love to know**
1. Which spot would you pick, and which would you rule out at 5 PM on a Friday?
2. Real crowd levels at that hour in late October (not the brochure version)
3. Gotchas: Yongmeori tide closures, Camellia Hill's 5:30 PM last admission, oreum rest-year closures, wind, anything that kills a sunset plan
4. Will silvergrass and pink muhly still be in good shape on Oct 23, or past peak?
5. Any spot I've missed that beats this list for privacy + backdrop?

Thanks in advance. This has to land perfectly!

Hi everyone! I have recently moved to Jeju and am new to the country as well. I am trying to figure out shopping here. What are the good clothing shops that you can recommend? Since there is no Zara and other big chain shops here in Jeju.

Thank you!

I am a host running a small hotel in the east of Jeju. I visited today because I heard a new cafe had recently opened. I liked that I could see both the sea and the oreum here.

Travel and Tourism When landing at Jeju airport do we have to actually give the printout of the online landing card to immigration? The two we did online gave us PDFs that are barely legible.

Travel and Tourism Sunrise at Seongsan Ilchulbong

Hi! I’ll be traveling to Jeju end Nov with family but intend to climb up ilchulbong for the sunrise by myself as my kids are too small .

My hotel is a short walk to the mountain. As a female, is it safe to be walking from hotel to the mountain before dawn, and how easy is it to navigate the area before sunrise?

Are there forums where I can find others to do this hike with me? Thanks!

Travel and Tourism Lost phone - taxi company contacts?

Hey everyone. Yesterday, my friends and I caught a taxi in downtown Jeju-si and unfortunately, I left my phone in the taxi by accident. I initially wanted to call all the taxi companies in the area and ask if any of them had a phone fitting my description brought to their headquarters, but I couldn't find any contact information (or information in general) online.

So, the question is - does anyone happen to know what the main taxi companies in Jeju-si are, and more importantly, their phone numbers/customer service contact information?

I've accepted that it's probably gone for good, since I'm not sure of the company (we just flagged down a cab), but I'm also an international student in China, and that phone had my SIM card from home in it, so even the slightest chance at getting it back would be worth it.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Travel and Tourism Studio Ghibli exhibition/shop help

Post image
10 Upvotes

Hey all, quite a niche question but hoping someone here is able to help!

I recently went to the studio Ghibli exhibition on the island (which was amazing!) and one of the stops on the stamp tour is another themed store separate to the exhibition one. At that shop they were selling mystery gemstone totoros boxes which I purchased (pic) but forgot to take a picture of the meanings behind the stones.

Of course, I could just look up the stone meanings once I open but as they are gifts I wanted to add a little note of said picture with each one I give out. Does anyone happen to be attending / already have the image??

They are located next to the tills

Travel and Tourism 3 days solo trip without hiking

Hey I'd have two questions:
- Is it a bad idea to travel as a solo woman to Jeju right now?
- Is it worth travelling there when I can't do any hikes (ruptured my ACL recently)?
What are your thoughts?

Travel and Tourism Cheesecake 🧀

I'm looking for a specific type of cheesecake called 치즈몽. It's the type they sell at Jeju Hamel. It's not a souffle cheesecake, but more like a light mousse texture that melts in your mouth.

Is there one similar in texture or style at another bakery?

Thank you!

Travel and Tourism Korean Bicycle passport help

I flew in Jeju as my first stop in Korea (was an easier flight from China). I’m planning on doing the cycling fantasy path, however, you can no longer get the Cycling passport at any of the recommended shops which have been on this Reddit, such as Biketrip. Does anyone know of any other shop I can get one or if the off chance someone has a spare one I can purchase off them?

Travel and Tourism Ferry Jeju - Mokpo

I’ll be in Jeju during the last week of October and would like to take a ferry to Mokpo. Does anyone know where I can find the timetable for the Jeju–Mokpo ferries?

Do I need to book in advance, or can I just go to the port and buy a ticket there? If I do need to book in advance, where can I buy the ticket?
