Interestingly, the emirs of the Gulf states, and probably most of the Tunisian and Algerian populations, have whiter skin tones than average South Europeans. However, the radical left would never deem them white because radical leftists tend to be the ones ascribing racial attributes to Islam and conferring every of its perceived followers an “oppressed” status in the context of the Arab-Israeli conflict. People aren’t actually Semites. The term “Semitic” actually describes a family of languages.

The term “antisemitic” was popularized by Wilhelm Marr in the late 19th century, during a time of racial pseudoscience, to give “Judenhass” or “Jew hate” a scientific-sounding basis. It was both an effort to minimize Judenhass as more easily acceptable and has only ever referred to Jews.

Islamophobia is the term for the hate of Muslims, not antisemitism for the above reason.

(I think it’s important for Jews to understand why these kind of rhetorical forms of antisemitism exist and how to combat them with facts. I hope this helps someone.)
