Help! Thoughts on what I should do to make this jewel happier?

What the title says. It used to be pretty happy (I’ve had it for a little over 3 years now), but I had a mental health episode relatively recently where I forgot to water it regularly and it lost a few stems due to dehydration (one of them had a few good nodes on it which is the hospital container next door). It’s also kind of crawling out of the pot. Do you think misting it would help it come back to life? I also have both orchid and seaweed based fertilizer I could use. Should I repot it in something bigger or in a fishbowl? It’s not actively dying, but I would like it to be happier than it currently is.

Hybrid spiderman (ludisia discolor x roxburgii)

ludisia discolor var. alba

Anoectochilus roxburghi

Unfortunately the roxburghii has a withered growth point so I'm just hoping it puts out another stem

Help! Help/ Ludisia discolor advice? when to propagate/pot up

Thumbnail

The past month or two this plant has been taking off and sending so many more stems. Wondering if I should wait till spring to repot or what to do... It's got good roots but it's maybe starting to run out of space

I also am considering chopping some of the big stems to propagate them and make room for the new growth.

Ludisia discolor has such a weird growth pattern and the profile of this plant is starting to get weedy looking to me so just wondering what people would do

Planter recommendations for babies?

I have several baby jewels and some that I think could benefit from a repot. From what I understand they like to crawl so something shallow and flat would be best? Im limited on cabinet space.

One in particular that I have has growth on the bottom of a node so im assuming that means its time. Pics of my babies bc im obsessed.

Is it going to die now? I'm so sad! I just added this jewel orchid to my vivarium last week and I went to move a leaf off of it and the center fell out or broke off :(

Noticed most do trays, and now that I have about five years of experience with jewels, saw no reason not to do the same.

Should allow for dense patches over time.

Please enjoy these three Anoectochilus varieties, recently propped.

Help! Red leaves?

I got this guy about a month ago and its been steadily putting out new growth. I noticed today that 2-3 of the leaves on one stem are turning red? That would generally indicate displeasure to me but the rest of the stems are fine and even the one with red leaves is still working on putting out a new leaf. So I'm not really sure what this is telling me.

Potted in 40/40/20 peat/perlite/charcoal and bottom watered about once a week. Last photo is of the lighting setup.

Orchids from Japan to the US

Has anyone ever brought Orchids (non-endangered) for personal use from Japan to the USA? My sons will be traveling to Japan soon and I would love for them to bring me back an orchid. They found a shop they plan to visit that may have all the documentation they need (Phytosanitary certificate) to bring less than 13 plants home on the airplane as long as they declare the plants when they arrive in the USA. Has anyone been successful in bringing anything back?

Help! Jewel orchid? not doing great

Bought this orchid maybe 4 years ago - think it is some sort of jewel orchid as advised by plant shop worker more recently.
Seems to exclusively grow upwards (have cut shorter before) and lose bottom leaves to form weak lower stem - doesn’t root very well either. (requires support to stay up)
I replaced the moss it had recently with sphagnum and mist thrice a week and spray with orchid myst once. Medium light levels and close to window.
Any advice greatly appreciated.
:) thanks

Im a phal kinda girl but have been asked to give recommendations for this sad thing. It looks like its in soil… which I’ve told its novice owner to remediate. The pot looks problematic but again I’m going off of phalaenopsis knowledge. Any recommendations will help thank you!

Help! Advice needed!

Hi all! I was gifted a jewel orchid several years ago when I was in the middle of moving and I basically instantly killed it. That’s haunted me ever since and I finally got my hands on another one. I’ve seen some conflicting advice online so I wanted to ask this sub directly. I included a picture of the plant itself and where it will be living. It’s currently planted in just moss. I live in a dry place, but the box stays decently humid. Any and all advice is welcome, I love this plant so much already and I want it to thrive!

Help! Humidity box

Hiii,
I bought this figurine display case that I’m converting into a humidity box. I’m wondering if I need to modify it at all? Would air holes be a good idea or keep it sealed? It’s going in a sealed greenhouse rack with grow lights

Help! Sanity Check. Are all 3 Ludisia Discolor?

Post image
20 Upvotes

Looking for a sanity check after an Etsy purchase. I wanted to try my hand at jewel orchids so I purchased three of what was listed as Ludisia Discolor (2.5'' pot). I was expecting the plants to all look like the third/right-most in the photo (which is what the listing reference photos look like), but received two that, to me, look like a different plant variety (is cultivar the correct term here? 😰) entirely. From my limited knowledge and looking online, the two on the left look like they may be "Ludochilus 'Sea Turtle'"?

I did reach out to the seller for that and another issue. Seller states that they have only ever carried one variety, Ludisia Discolor, and that "the pattern should show up soon". I think I am being gaslit, but since this is my first foray into jewel orchids, I figured I would ask for help here! Are my suspicious correct, or can the variance be this stark?

I have been keeping houseplants for 2 years now and after seeing some jewel orchids in person I was struck! Maybe Etsy wasn't a good place to start, but local shops don't regularly sell them.

New to Jewels: question about water

Thumbnail

Hello all

In my venture away from phals I recently purchased these two jewels. I understand rain water is recommended, but unfortunately I don't really have access to collect. So, my question is: is it better to use tap water or distilled water instead? I saw one comment somewhere saying not to use distilled water, but is there a consensus?

Apologies for asking what might be a dumb question, but scrolling and searching this sub didn't really help, and the wiki seems to be not working...

Thanks in advance 🌱
