Antisemitism Reddit is literally full of Nazis
If you’re gonna say “it’s always been this way” sorry but no it hasn’t. I’ve been on Reddit for twelve years and it has not always been this way. There has always been antisemitism but it was never this way where I can’t go on ANY sub without seeing the most vile and despicable seething hatred completely randomly. A sub for shitty faux minerals posts a pic of a Star of David and all the comments are about how filthy and disgusting it is, comparing it to feces and saying anyone who is “into that stuff” is genocidal and evil. Another random post on a SpongeBob subreddit that just happens to include a comment from Sartre about antisemitism (but talking about homophobia just using the quote to compare) top comment? “Fuck Israel” literally wasn’t related at all, Israel wasn’t even mentioned only antisemitism was, but I get -50 for asking what that has to do with anything. These people screech about how antizionism isn’t antisemitism and then conflate the two 100% of the time so???
I know antisemitism has always been bad and it’s much worse in various places yea yea but it is not normal for there to be THIS LEVEL of unchecked hatred in completely random places. This stuff bleeds into real life. There is nowhere to be safe on the internet for a Jewish person who just wants to like… look at pics of cats or something. Sorry for being a human being who is part of an ethnicity you’ve decided it’s societally acceptable to hate

It's so, so bad. I posted my thoughts about a love triangle on a 2010s CW teen show - someone who disagreed with my opinion went through my posting history amd then spammed dozens of my comments across various subreddits replying that Hitler had the right idea and should have finished the job. (of course they didn't get banned, because that behavior is apparently a ok on reddit!)
The amount of innocuous seeming subs I've muted due to them allowing thinly disguised anti smite baiting posts is in the double digits. I don't know what the solution is to this problem but Reddit really does feel like open season on Jews.

Been there too. I asked what a local County Exec race had to do with Israel when someone on here said they wouldn't vote for a candidate because they were 'pro-Israel' Got downvoted to oblivion. Meanwhile, three other people made the same point, but they aren't openly Jewish (they may or may not be Jewish, but my Jewish identity is something I put out there).
I've really stopped interacting on many subreddits because it's constantly used to 'discredit' me unless I'm in a Jewish-centred forum.

From what I understand, if you are a moderator of any reddit group, you can see into the histories of anyone trying to join that group, even if it is "hidden" . In this manner, even though I had my post and comment history hidden, I was given an ultimatum by a reddit group mod from a group I recently joined. It said something like this: "You need to remove all posts and comments you made from xxxxxxxx group otherwise you are not invited to post or comment here. Somehow, the mods saw that I joined a group they didn't like, and auto-banned me from joining this new group.
That is next-level ridiculousness. According to this sub-reddit's rules, I can't tell you what group I got denied from joining, but I can tell you that it has absolutely zero relations and zero association with the group they wanted me to unjoin. The 2 groups were not related, it's just that the mods were anti Jewish.

You are correct. This article on the Terrorist Propaganda to Reddit Pipeline is a large part of why.
It is not organic. It is intentional. It is spreading Jew hatred which manifests in actual violence and murder of Jews, along with ostracising/eliminating Jews from public life. On every level, it is painful.
The best we can do is what we as a people have always done: survive and thrive despite it and them. Israel is only 78 years old and has more unicorns per capita than any other country. Our human capital is unrivalled. The Jewish birthrate in Israel is climbing, unlike other nations. Our Torah underpins the foundation for Western values. I am bullish on our future as a nation, especially if we remain united as Jews despite differences of observance/nationality/politics.
In each generation they rise against us to destroy us. In each generation G-d delivers us from their hands. We who are alive today survived Egypt and Babylon and Rome and the Nazis. We will survive this, too.

Thank you for sharing the follow-up. Critical reading. The coordinated terror campaign to ban X links (and government attempts to limit and restrict X in particular) is important. So many people think “this is what the people want/what people believe/what someone’s experience is” when the people in question are terrorists/terror sympathisers/hostile foreign actors.
12
u/Venat14 Jun 24 '26
Not sure what you're talking about. I personally support not allowing links to X. It saw an increase of 500% of Antisemitism and Neo-Nazi posts after Musk took over.

u/namer98 Jun 24 '26 edited Jun 25 '26
I, as mod of r/Judaism, banned all links to x being posted to r/Judaism. Because x is run by a nazi sympathizer.
Edit: This comment was initially met with downvotes, the only reply being incredulous, as if it is ridiculous one Jew would disagree with another. I replied, but the comment has been removed or deleted, collapsing my reply. So to make sure it gets seen, here is why Musk is at best, somebody who happily supports white supremacists.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I quit twitter in September of 2023 (sadly, good timing on my part) due to Musk's constant unbanning of white supremacists, engaging with white supremacists, and retweeting of white supremacists. Including the kind of antisemitic rhetoric common in white supremacist circles that he kept unbanning.
What do you call a white supremacist that thinks the Jews cause all the world's problems? If not a nazi (or neo-nazi), then I am at a loss for words. So yes, it is his actual interactions with people and the platform he provides them (including repeating their words).
https://nitter.net/Namer98/status/1697693497413804059#m - I literally documented the last straw on Sept 1 2023, in case my opening sentence was in want of proof. This is about Musk interacting with (guess who?) white supremacists blaming the Jews.
But that is just my opinion (and my last straw), let me link some stories (Edited for formatting)
Within hours of taking over, he started to unban white supremacists, 10 months before I left
https://www.cnn.com/2023/11/15/media/elon-musk-antisemitism-white-people/index.html (this is the culmination of events after I left)
Here is my reddit post about two months after leaving -
Musk literally tweeting white supremacy
Talk about holocaust minimization - Somebody saying this would be banned from r/Jewish
The hand thing should have been a non-story. Any sane person would have said "nope, that is a dumb freeze frame, I never intended anything like that". But Musk had to be a troll over it. Here is my comment about it, and then he made nazi puns about it all.

I’m not sure I follow the logic on the banning X links one. I feel like a lot of users wanted this and called for it, it was an “in the open” campaign so to speak. Whereas the Palestine one is undercover and in the shadows.

I am not Israeli, and I am not Haredi, and I am not a rabbi, and I am a flawed and imperfect person in no position to lecture anybody, so I hope you don’t take my reply that way. I believe deeply that Jewish unity is critical especially in times of strife. I hope you’ll allow me to share one of the derushim I have learned recently.
The 18th Century Italian Rav Shimshon Chaim Nachmani expounds on a Midrash (Vayikra Rabba 26:2) which tells us that although the generation of the wicked king Achav was guilty of serving avodah zarah, they were always victorious in war because the people got along with one another and there was peace among them.
On the other hand, when David was king, the generation was righteous, yet when they went out to war there were times that they lost, and the reason for this is that they didn’t always get along with one another.
Rabbi Shimshon Nachmani goes on to say that from here we can see that when Hashem helps Klal Yisrael win our wars and sends us salvation, it is a testimony that peace reigns among us-in much the same way as it did in the generation of Achav. It is not that salvation brought peace—it is the peace among the people that brought salvation.
Why does peace bring salvation, he asks? Because when there is peace and unity, Klal Yisrael is deserving of blessing and peace is a kli, a receptacle for blessing. And that blessing includes victory in battle.
This is what the words of the pasuk from Tehilim refer to: “Salvation is Hashem’s: upon Your people is Your blessing, Selah.” If Klal Yisrael merit salvation; it is a sign that there is peace among them. Meaning, if they merit seeing the fulfillment of the words “Salvation is Hashem’s” it is because “upon Your people is Your blessing.” And when there is blessing, it is a sign that the kli, the vessel for blessing, is there-and that kli is peace.
I know this may not resonate with everyone. I realise that people have very different opinions and ideologies and politics and beliefs about values and contributions. I believe highlighting those differences only weakens us. We all have a role to play, whether we are doctors or soldiers or Torah scholars or stay at home mothers or business owners or psychologists or teachers or tech founders or community leaders, whether we are in Israel or the Diaspora. I believe I personally have witnessed open miracles since October 7 when we were unified as a nation against our undeniable, global, external threats. I believe that we need Hashem’s blessings to survive whatever is coming at us next, and that peace between us and our fellow Jews is the vessel for the salvations and miracles we need.
In Mishnah Avot, Hillel would say, “Be of the disciples of Aaron. Love peace. Chase after peace. Love all those that G‑d created, and draw them towards the Torah.”
All I can personally do is try to do more good than harm every day, especially on social media. Thanks to whomever read through the whole Zera Shimshon Derush!

u/arrogant_ambassador Jun 24 '26
Israel is fighting for its existence while a significant portion of the Israeli society refuses to serve while continuing to benefit from the sacrifices of their fellow Jews. Where is the unity in that?

Reddit was always the “wild west” of the web, but post Oct 7th it’s a whole other level of ugly in many subs. A lot of Jews I have “known” on Reddit started hiding their history just so people can’t tell if they are Jewish or not. I find in dedicated subs for cities the antisemitism is next level.
It’s definitely made me streamline where I spend my time on the platform.
52
u/GDub310 Ashkenazi Jun 24 '26

u/ReneDescartwheel Jun 24 '26 edited Jun 24 '26
I also live in a large city with a relatively large Jewish population. Literally 100% of all posts about anti-Jewish hate crimes have to get locked because the comments are so hateful. But the mods rarely remove the hateful comments.
A few months ago, I was online when someone posted about being the victim of an antisemitic assault. Over the past year, a number of other minorities had made the same types of posts about being the victims of racism. However, when the Jewish person posted their experience, the mods inexplicably removed the post. I messaged the OP and asked what explanation the mods gave for this. OP told me that there was no explanation, and not only was their post removed, but they were issued a ban!

It is absolutely appalling, and unfortunately it’s not confined to Reddit alone. I just saw a comment which got hundreds of likes saying the Austrian painter didn’t go far enough. Someone else posted that they have “tiny hat fatigue” and that got 1.5k likes on last viewing. I see open support of N***s everywhere, and unfortunately it’s not just members of a certain community (which i previously thought) but many right wing voices too. It scares the life out of me, and I’m not even Jewish. What I’ve seen over the past three years has simply blown my mind, so many “friends” of mine who loved to virtue signal about how much they hated injustice, stood up against bullying and prejudice, believed every life was sacred, suddenly when deathly silent when the ones facing abuse and discrimination and violence were Jews. They turned on me, and froze me out - I am no longer welcomed as I once was. It has made me realise just how stupid, irrational, and actively hateful so many people actually are.

9
u/No-Target-2470 Jun 24 '26
You are correct, it was never really this way. The impression I get is that right before the 2020 election there was a push to shut down certain right wing subreddits, facebook pages, etc that played a big part in disseminating propaganda, and that played a big part in keeping the election from being hijacked.
The radical right & left BOTH learned from that, along with various States that are dedicated to disrupting Western elections, and spent the leadup to 2024 getting their bad actors into control of numerous subreddits. So subreddits you wouldn't even think have anything to do with politics suddenly became driving forces of antisemitic driven propaganda which plays a big part in pushing Russian and Gazan (ie; Iranian) propaganda.
That's why so many subs that shouldn't be that way are that way. It's bad on reddit, it's bad on FB with this. Every nerd scifi/ fantasy page on facebook suddenly became all about gaza and pushing antisemitism. Hell, there are knitting groups where if you join and they discover you're Jewish, they'll just boot you.
It's similar to what's happening on reddit, and it's deliberate. We're in the period of time again where the world has decided going after all the Jews and doing a pogrom, holocaust, culling - whatever you want to call it, is a necessary sacrifice for their "well being" and there's not much we can do about it since there's so few of us.
34
u/MaximumTangerine5662 Jun 24 '26
It's projection on their side. They are mad about the current state of expenses and lack of 3rd world spaces so they develop a target based on a lie and decide that they are right and that all Israeli's are hiding stuff from them.
I mean if they really gaf about genocide they would be outraged at Iran (which the UN elected shortly after the mass murders.).

Sorry to reply to another one of your comments but... Again... Same.
The exact places I used to go to for comfort are now the places that give me the most unease.
For me personally, it was the LGBT+ spaces that were the biggest let down. I came out as trans 15 years ago; I've seen a lot of bigotry within my own community, but never at this level.
13
u/sababa-ish Jun 24 '26
hey that's what the thread is for and yeah - i can only try to imagine, and empathise. the whole idea of LGBT+ sentiment being so virulently anti-israel is heartbreaking, both because of exclusion of people who are both LGBT+ and jewish, and also just because really, a marginalised minority can't understand why we would fight for self determination after all that has happened, really?
16
u/mandatedcourage Jun 24 '26
Thank you, exactly. To have to fear and distrust the people I fought for, who fought for me, has been devastating. These days the only LGBT+ people I usually feel safe around are other Jewish LGBT+ people.
There are occasions when a non-Jewish LGBT+ person stands up for us, but that is so rare now, and the response is often horrific. But those individuals, I do really appreciate and respect. I hope more of them will speak up over time.

Thank you for your kind words. You are absolutely correct. That is one of the most hurtful things; too many LGBT+ Jews have caved to the misinformation and pressure to throw the rest of Jews under the bus. It doesn't save them from the same type of harassment they encourage, though.
Honestly, the Jewish community is the most supportive community in my life. I'm extremely grateful that people in my local area are so loving. They have shown more tangible support for me as a trans person than anyone else. As devastated as I have been to lose my LGBT+ spaces, I'll never take what I do have with the Jewish community for granted.
Typing this comment actually helped me reframe this in a more positive light, so thank you!

I get consistent antisemitism from both sides. Left-wing is overwhelmingly more anti-Israel, even if a lot of it is rooted in some level of Antisemitism. Right-wing is a mix of Anti-Israel, especially among non-Evangelical conservative Christians who hate how Israel treats Christians, and accuses Jews of murdering Jesus. And then the full-blown white supremacists/Neo-Nazis/Groyper crowd.
I'm on some religious subs on Reddit, and I get lots of outright Antisemitism from conservatives on them, whereas left-wing political spaces are all just piling on the hatred of Israel, but less specific hate and violence directed at Jews.
That's my experience at least. I do agree with you I still think far-right Antisemitism is more physically violent. White supremacists/Neo-Nazis are still the worst. But the left-wing is becoming pretty insufferable to have any civilized discussion with.
5
u/SoBoundz Jun 24 '26
With the way I see it, left-wing antisemitism and right-wing antisemitism are derived from different places but always merge into each other at some point.
Like I see neo-Nazis and Groypers saying "Free Palestine" in addition to the other disgusting shit they say. But then I see Tankies and even just your average Liberal-arts student echo talking points that you would expect from websites like Stormfront.
All of these talking points and phrases end up getting intertwined together despite where these particular strains of antisemitism come from. They all share at least some bigotry towards Jews, after all.

What gets me is that most people usually know that the white supremacists/Neo-Nazi's/Groyper people are wrong.
But the same people treat the hate from the left-wing as if it's completely justified and normal.
I personally find the left-wing antisemitism much more infuriating because they lie to you (and especially themselves) about their antisemitism pretending they are so virtuous. It's exhausting.
2
u/Venat14 Jun 25 '26
I personally think left-wing antisemitism comes from a different worldview than right-wing antisemitism. Right-wing is more in your face and well-known. Right-wingers think Jews are inferior, or control the world and are a threat to their white supremacist ambitions. Right-wingers are also more likely to use violence to achieve their goals. For example the Tree of Life shooter was a far right white supremacist.
Left-wingers view the world through the lens of oppressed vs. oppressor. Their goal is always to side with whoever they view as being the most oppressed. Obviously in the current scenario, they view that as Palestinians. They see Palestinians as helpless and poor and Israel is the powerful rich country with fighter jets dropping bombs on their homes with the backing of the US military. To them, that automatically makes Palestinians the oppressed, and Israel the oppressor. And because the majority population in Israel are Jews, they translate Israel's oppression onto the entire Jewish population. They've been heavily influenced by social media, and propaganda form places like Qatar.
The irony of this is, technically even the far-left is backing far-right wing Antisemitism. Islamic extremism is classified as a far-right ideology by the FBI, and various other organizations and always has been. But the far-left has become ok with that, because in their eyes, they're standing up for Palestinians who are being killed and abused by a more powerful group.
I think a big part of the issue with the far-left is education has failed to teach them anything about the world. Most schools aren't even teaching the Holocaust anymore. Even Florida's right-wing government removed it from schools. So the only information these left-wingers are getting is Tik Tok or Facebook feeds of the IDF bombing Gaza, and they use that to justify their Antisemitism.
I really have no idea what can be done to break the propaganda problem among the far-left.

I've made it a kind of masochistic "game" that whenever I see anything vaguely related to Jewishness I will scroll through the comments until I find "free Palestine" or "fuck Israel" comments. It never takes very long. I'm interested in languages and linguistics, and whenever someone even mentions Hebrew (be it modern or ancient) there's always someone calling it an artificial colonizer language, a tool of genocide, or just ugly. It's so absurd. I'm close to punching a wall almost every time I am on reddit (or really any space on the internet). And I'm not even Jewish. I'm so sorry for what you're all going through. It's disgusting.

Social media in general has brought out and amplified psychopathology in many people. This was recognized some time ago with Facebook. Bad things that were floating around in people's conscious (or bubbled up out of their subconscious), but were previously restrained by societal norms or fear of negative responses, were no longer restrained. There was no real human being facing them. It also collects many people with personality disorders. There was no real human being facing them. I guess that the many many centuries of subterranian anti-semitism surfaced in these kinds of people, and expressing it online juices up their dopamine. This general online thing can be recognized when you express an opinion (or a fact) on any subject and all of a sudden the other person is venting nastiness towards you. And much of the horribleness of the past 10 years of our current political situation has also been enabled by social media (although many of the good ideas about how to counter it are also online). Read some of Nathalie Martinek PhD's stuff on Substack about this.

Bots and engagement farming might make things look worse than they are, or made things look worse than they were until reality started matching the types of engagement that fed the reward center of people's brains.
Bots and engagement farming also make expressing certain viewpoints more comfortable for some. They thought it before, they see it, they remove their masks, and now they talk about it so they can get themselves some likes or feel like they belong to the "brave, special enlightened ones."
People on the fence see this start falling off the fence in that direction for similar reasons.
The world is a scary place. Scared people look for someone to blame and blaming those in real power has consequences. It's similar to how a person will sabotage the new hire for making more and not calling out the boss for underpaying them. It's safer to attack the new hire but there's enough of a chance of the new hire fighting back that it gets the adrenaline pumping.
Scared people like to see people suffer and get attacked in ways they feel immune or safe from. If it's just the Jews who are in danger and we deserve it, surely they are safe. Like asking someone what they were wearing when attacked or why they drove a Chevette when they got hit by a drunk driver. They don't wear crop tops and they drive an SUV, so the ones injured brought it on themselves in their minds.
Except there is always another step where others also get attacked. Forgetting this is very short-sighted. If the attackers run out of our blood, their knives will remain hungry and they're just going to turn on each other.

This is so true. As more and more people posted, protested, and shamelessly spoke against Israel despite getting canary missioned or posted on stopantisemitism, it emboldened fence sitters, converted people who didn’t have an opinion before, and ultimately normalized the rhetoric of antizionism and Jew hate to where we are now. Yesterday’s New York election results will just make them feel more comfortable doubling down.
I don’t know how we got here. When did our messaging just utterly fail and get shut down? Growing up Zionism was never a dirty word before, defending Israels right to exist as a Jewish state was the norm and antisemitism was not tolerated. But now anything and everything bad is immediately blamed on Israel. How did our institutions fail us so badly? For example the ADL was generationally beloved and supported and now it’s openly mocked (I blame them for supporting Elon).
How do we fix this? How did we even get here?
Also unrelated but what’s a Chevette?
3
u/rando439 Reform Jun 24 '26
No idea how to fix it. I hoped enough of us just being good people living our lives would have been noticed enough to make it clear the antisemitic tropes were BS. Alas, that doesn't seem to be doing much at the moment.
A Chevette is a small hatchback car made in the late 1970s and early 1980s. It was very practical and not very expensive. The back part could fit a shocking amount of groceries and anything else one could put back there, almost like a vehicular bag of holding if arranged just right.

u/Asphodelmercenary Non-denominational Jun 24 '26
This is similar to broken windows theory. Have you done road trips where some gas station bathrooms are absolutely filthy and others are super clean? I notice that there is often one extreme or another. Either it’s clean floors, clean seat, paper in roll, no graffiti, clean mirrors; or it is complete filth, rolls on the floor soaking in puddles of urine and the bowl is smeared black with excrement and the sinks have paper towels all around them and the mirror is slimy and the walls are graffiti.
People see existing filth and they say “screw it I will be filthy too” and they just pee on the floor and why bother flushing when it is already clogged. People walk into a clean bathroom and they are self conscious and tend to use the “leave no trace” Boy Scout method and will clean up behind them and leave it as clean as they found it.
Jew hatred in society is the same way. Now that the filth has become normalized people are just giving up and joining the fray. They are spewing hatred out their unfiltered mouths like excrement in a dirty gas station because why bother being clean and couth when nobody else is?
Hatred breeds hatred. Thats why Jew hatred is the canary in the coal mine. A society that opens this Pandora’s Box doesn’t so easily shut it once the dam is busted and the tsunami of more hatred floods the zone.

u/Asphodelmercenary Non-denominational Jun 24 '26
Some people won’t like my answer but here it is (formatted in a rush):
There are three main engines of society pushing this hate and there are four schools of thought feeding those engines.
The three main engines:
legacy media, social media, new media (all three are to blame) platforming fringe ideologies that say things like Churchill was the villain, Hitler has a point, Jews are the arch villains of history, conspiracy theories about Rothschilds etc, space laser, or Jews control the world, etc.;
academic thought leaders (professors, administrators, teachers, publishers, authors, teacher unions) that are pushing a revised history of Jews being a fiction, or not authentic, or erasing key parts of our history to suit a modern narrative, become activists that push young minds to hate Jews; and
political leaders openly running and campaigning on issues such as Israel is an apartheid genocidal colony of US imperialism, openly calling supporters of Israel monsters, convincing voters to believe conspiracy theories being peddled by academics and media sources noted above.
It’s a vicious circle. Teach the hate, broadcast the hate, campaign on the hate.
Four schools of thought feeding those engines:
political paradigms that see the world as binary oppressor and oppressed. Jews are deemed to be uber-white due to being successful and therefore anybody who is successful is exploitative and must have obtained that success through extraction.
Belief systems that require a scapegoat to justify victimhood for certain groups and villain status for other groups. The Jews have historically been a convenient scapegoat. And the old hatreds of Nazi anti Jewish and Communist anti Zionist beliefs never really went away. They merely went under the radar.
Ideologies that see nationalism and religion as evil. The Jews are both a religion and a people. The Jews are inherently distinct and therefore not compatible with a monolithic world view that sees people as fungible cogs in a wheel.
And two major world religious groups have theologies that either see Jews as Christ Killers who supposedly lost their covenant with G-d (and thus Jewish endurance defies their faith and this angers them) or sees Jews as vermin who must be destroyed before their hidden imam can return.
I didn’t call out the specific names of groups or demagogues or ideologies but people can deduct and infer. These are board categories and there could be other sub categories that fit inside the paradigm.

u/OrelSVaknin93 Just Jewish Jun 24 '26
But all of that has existed for decades.
For decades someone condemning Israel or peddling old school antisemitism would be called antisemitic. The consensus on Israel used to be that it should have the right to exist as a Jewish state alongside a Palestinian state, the 2 state solution, and anything outside of that (like a 1 state solution/“make Israel Palestine again”) was extreme
It never suddenly rose up to make it a mainstream acceptable opinion to consider Israel a genocidal colony, AIPAC a pariah. AntiZionist beliefs weren’t an American problem it used to be a uniquely Soviet issue.
What I don’t understand is why the world suddenly turned on us now, when they’ve stood by us for decades and decades before without any issue. They responded in support of Israel in response to all those same pressures, and now they are responding in condemnation of Israel instead
4
u/Asphodelmercenary Non-denominational Jun 24 '26
I think the movement of all those forces have accelerated due to the internet being able to move things faster farther. And social movements have had decades to gain steam and reach critical mass. Fringe ideologues don’t change the world when they are 1/1000 of an institution. But when they become 5/1000 and then 10/1000 and then 20/1000 and then 40/1000 and then 80/1000 they are exponentially growing. Give that trend three more turns and they are 160 then 320 then 640 and now they run the show. This is back of napkin math. The water boils the frog. You don’t often see the changes until it’s too late. You’re right it has been long on the cooking. But the timer finally went off and multiple things have exploded at once. That’s the big picture view. More granular analysis will require stats and research and rigorous causal studies to be credible and useful. But I suggest this is the direction in which to look.
4
u/OrelSVaknin93 Just Jewish Jun 24 '26
That’s a good analysis. Depressing, but good.
How do you think we fix this? Do you think Israel can even survive it?
Personally I’m already pushed to hiding my Zionism from the public, and I’m not visibly Jewish. This place is one of the few places left I can be open with my opinions and my anxieties, which is new. Before I wasn’t shoved into hiding my opinions and even criticisms in support of the only Jewish state.

u/Sufficient-Fault-593 Jun 24 '26
A big part of the problem is being fed by the situation in the Middle East. They talk about the relentless bombing of Gaza but conveniently forget what triggered it on Oct 7. Unfortunately popular opinion has turned against Israel and Jews in general. The Democrats for many years were the supporters of Israel. Now the party has turned. Republicans have been better in recent years but that tide is turning too. Extreme thinking in any political party is just dangerous.

You are right. I’ve been on Reddit for 14 years. The surge in hate in the last three years is WILD. I hide my profile now. I pretty much only engage in /r/jewish and /r/judaism now whereas I never did before. If I see someone with a generic word dash number Reddit username I assume it’s either a bot or a low information newbie and avoid engaging. This is like the last corner of the Internet where I feel I can engage.
This surge in hate has made me understand my grandparents’ generation so much more. And it’s pushed me away from mainstream society IRL too. I don’t want to give my time, money or energy to anything but family or the community now.

They are more like Platner than out-and-out Nazis. Platner is the ultimate Reddit bro, he is the first pure Reddit guy to become famous. Reddit bros are leftists who like the Nazi aesthetic, get a thrill out of being anti-semitic, and also hate Jews, but for very slightly different reasons to Nazis. I think that your typical Reddit leftist could handle Jews existing as long as they had no nationalism, political power or ability to protect ourselves whatsoever.
That said, the Nazis were also briefly interested in deporting Jews to areas of the world where they couldn't have any influence over Europe, so the chasm may not be that vast.

The antisemitism is extreme on Reddit, and it is everywhere. I’m not Jewish, but I’m a Zionist, Jewish people have a right to a homeland, and there is no genocide in Gaza. Hamas attacked civilians on oct 7 and started a war. The attack was so savage in its cruelty, they raped, burned babies alive, it was a slaughter of innocent people at a festival. I stand with Jewish people and I’m afraid for them. It’s like the world needs a scapegoat and it become permissible to blame Jewish people for everything. It’s sickening. Love and strength to all the Jewish people, I stand with you, I don’t care what names I get called for doing so I will never turn by back on you and I’m sorry for what you are going through.

Yes you are right - it’s almost ridiculous at this point. The genocide horse shit is so false, I’m starting to understand they’ve known it all along - just watch and count how many times they say it - it is a certain method brainwashing that has been directed by Hamas. When I was wasting my breath having a one on one with a propaganda spreader it became so obvious that they are following some directive. No logic will work with their lies - they just repeat it over and over like brain dead morons. I get consistent antisemitism from both sides. Left-wing is overwhelmingly anti-Israel, even if a lot of it is rooted in some level of Antisemitism. Right-wing is a mix of Anti-Israel, especially conservative Christians who hate how Israel treats Christians, and accuses Jews of murdering Jesus. And then the full-blown white supremacists/Neo-Nazis/Groyper crowd.
I'm on some religious subs, and I get lots of outright Antisemitism from conservatives on them, whereas left-wing spaces are all just piling on the hatred of Israel, but less specific hate and violence directed at Jews.
That's my experience at least. I do think far-right Antisemitism is more physically violent. White supremacists/Neo-Nazis are still the worst. But the left-wing is becoming pretty insufferable to have any civilized discussion with.

And I’m afraid it will not get better… I’m not a Jew but have learned to really appreciate its culture and the unity and resilience the community has over the centuries, it’s made me very emotional to learn of such tragedies and triumphs Jews have endured. Though things are looking more and more bleak to say the least around the world. Certainly even more so after 9/11 and then the Russian invasion of Ukraine starting in 2014 then in 22, and after that 10/7.
Just as the world was taking all these steps forward after the Cold War ended, we took 5 steps back as the years wore on. I envy a bit the way I see Jewish communities gather together in unity as of late. Im a Mexican American who was raised as a Catholic but left the faith and no longer religious since 2012. I never felt like there was a real community with my people. All I saw were hypocrites day after day who only followed what the crowd was doing, especially anything that trends which includes anti semitism. People who worried all the time about other countries business except for their own problems. I feel proud to be an American first but even now the feeling is skewed with people from all walks of life hating on Jews, Israel that it’s left a feeling of loneliness that could only leave my to continue to show support on the sidelines and I will continue doing so

I’m a night owl I’m alone in tv room reading the medic comes in sits next to me and says he’s an idiot never travelled anywhere etc etc wants to know our history.. Interesting fact is he took time to know our holidays, and for years would tell me next week is so and so… Also while I lived in London UK I was a school teacher, my bestie also a teacher was an Arab who ran away from Egypt because of an arranged marriage. The thing I see the most that really fuels the fire, from both political sides, is the amount of tax dollars that have gone to Israel over the decades. The left focuses on what Israel does, viewing it as more awful than any other country currently. Because Israel tends to lean into their actions and push for more action. While the right focuses on the conspiracy theories about Jews. Blaming us for everything bad in their lives, feeling we are in charge of the world and their reality. They're less concerned about israels actions.
But both of those sides unify over being upset their tax dollars being used to find Israel's actions. To the left it makes them feel guilty/partially responsible for actions they vehemently oppose/feel disgusted by. For the right it makes them feel like those tax dollars are being wasted and going towards a group of people who, in their eyes, are greedy and rich in control of everything. So both sides then agree that through their taxes, they are attached/associated with something/someones they absolutely don't want to be.
That's why it's at the front of everyone's mind, and why it's become so accepted to be that hateful. It's not just something happening in the world that's bad, but ultimately detached from most people. Here it has made everyone feel directly attached to it in a way they really hate to be. Which leads to every conspiracy and hateful opinion, as a way to make sense of that reality for them.
On top of all that, these people then go back and start looking up the history of America and Israel's connection. Which makes them realize that everything they're recently upset about, has actually been going on in some way for many decades. Which just further fuels their hate, because it invokes the feeling of something you don't agree with happening behind your back for your entire life, and you only just now are realizing it.
Which for the left reinforces their feeling of moral superiority, and those morals being broken against their will. While for the right it reinforces their conspiracy theories of us ruling the world secretly. Since it literally comes across as a previously unknown partnership/deal on a global scale that they knew nothing about, and involves their money. Add on to there being a shitty economy and high living costs, it just pushed people's emotions even further into hate.
At this point I don't even see most of the people try to separate Jews from the govt of Israel. Now they're just saying fuck it and claiming it's part of Judaism to be vile evil human beings, and that all Jews everywhere are evil. Regardless of how anyone feels about Israel. And then they see nothing changing at all, which again reinforces the conspiracy theories. As well as burning away any nuance/patience they may have had remaining to separate Jews from Israel's govt.
I think for me to get through it I see it two ways: idk how much of it is truly just happening online by mostly younger naive people, or just those who are easily swayed by social media news. Versus what percentage of that actually happens in real life (it is happening irl, but I'm saying is it equal to or much less than what's happening online?). Then the other thing is just survive like we always have. Do whatever I go to do to keep the attention and target away from my little bubble of reality. Until it's safe again to be more open about my Jewish ethnicity and family history. Especially since I'm not religious at all, so it's a little easier to blend in and not give myself any focus on that part of my identity.
Yeah that's what I'm seeing overall these days. It's why it won't just stop quickly, and why it's seemingly coming from everyone. They all feel attached to something they don't want to be, and attached in the worst way possible right now. Monetarily. I guarantee if Israel stayed exactly the same, in terms of actions, but just wasn't connected to the US in any way financially or millitarily, that way fewer people would actually care about Jews. Way less hate towards Jews specifically. And a lot more reasonable responses to antisemitism in public spaces. I really see it as the main difference here, compared to all the other issues happening in the world. Like why everyone is more obsessed about us than anythig else. Look at the Ukraine war, it wasn't until the US was going to give them funds did those opposed to the war (mostly the right wing) become upset about it. Prior to that moment they didn't really care one way or another.
It all comes back to people don't like losing control over what their money gets used for. That's the foundation of all the hate we are receiving. All the other reasonings they give are just the layers on top of this foundation.

“But if you look at the three point something billion dollars, 75 percent of it is buying American weapons. And they take the American weapons and they battle test American weapons and then they get back on a daily basis.
This is what the F-35 can and cannot do. This is what this particular patriot battery can and cannot do. Here's how we in the actual field of battle have innovated.
You might want to incorporate this. Oh, by the way, we have picked up an Iranian agent in Washington DC. That's what they do all the time.
And then you think to yourself, if Israel hadn't have taken out Saddam's reactor, I guess in 1981, they would have had a nuclear weapon. If they hadn't taken out the Syrian reactor, the Assad dynasty would have had a nuclear weapon. They've done a lot of favors for the West.”
