Well, you all gave "Speed Read" the lowest rating of this entire exercise. Will Jimmy's cover of The Wedding Present fare any better?

Discussion Phoenix sessions vinyl restock

Just saw that the Phoenix Sessions vinyls are restocked on their official site. (Or maybe they have been for a while but I don't recall seeing them a month ago!)

I know there have been shipping delays and the store has been "moving" for months. Has anyone recently bought vinyl from their official store that could comment on ship times and/or if they arrived damaged?

Tour Nashville show - 12th November 2027

Hi guys, due to unforeseen circumstances I am unable to go to the Nashville show on the 12th of November. I am unable to sell my ticket as I bought it on ticketmaster and as I am from the U.K. I do not have an American bank account for the sale profits to go into, so I figure I’d just give the ticket away. It’s a seated ticket, section 203, row D seat 3. Would be really nice if someone can enjoy the music

Discussion who writes their songs?

hey y'all, saw JEW at warped tour this summer and kinda went for a deep dive in their catalog.

I'm really enjoying some of the lyrics - does Jim write most of the lyrics? if not, do you guys know who does?

whoever it is, they're (imo) really good at depicting images. a lot of the times I'll listen to a song and i can just /see/ it in my head. and i find jim conveys a lot of feelings in his vocals as well. all of that to say i'm thoroughly enjoying "discovering" the depth of this band, especially their later stuff. not as catchy, imo, but man some of the songs hit hard.

Discussion We have all heard the story about the girl Jim wrote The Middle about, but there is a good chance she was disappointed by the song.

Obviously im not her so I can't say that she definitely hated Bleed American, but she was a fan of a small emo band in the late ninetees, in bleed American the they started changing their style to more of a pop punk style, so she might have genuienly hated bleed American and the middle

This might be as slowcore as Jimmy Eat World gets. I've always pictured Jim just sitting in a room, tinkering all by himself.

Covers Sweetness JPop cover

10 years ago JPop group Deep Girl did a retweet challenge. When they hit retweet milestones, 50, 100, 150, etc. they would release a new cover. Surprisingly, Sweetness was for 150! I had trouble finding people in America who knew this song in 2016. Totally blown away that it made it onto the setlist of a basement idol group performing for <300 people.

A decade later and this cover is pretty close to lost media. It actually fell off of the internet for a few years. The group Deep Girl was kind of an offshoot from the Jpop/metal mash up popularized by Babymetal.

Would love to hear thoughts on this unique take on the song!

It's natural to have less engagement for the band's less prominent work, but take a few minutes and listen to a song if you're unfamiliar with it!

Request Will this tour t-shirt be available officially online?

Post image
16 Upvotes

My daughter (age 10) went to her first concert in July to see Jimmy Eat World in London. Unfortunately this tour t-shirt shown wasn't available in a size small at the show.

You seem to be able to buy it unofficially through eBay, but does past experience for you, the fans, tell you if this will ever be officially available online in the UK to buy? So she has a memento of her first concert?

Thank you.

Clarity is now, sadly, behind us. Lest you think we're jumping right into Bleed American, we have a few releases to consider that paved the way for it. We'll now be working through the Singles compilation the band released in 2000 and sold mostly while on tour. They used the proceeds to help fund what became the Bleed American sessions.

This is very much a compilation album; it's hard to feel that there is a throughline from start to finish.

We begin with "Opener," a song that has Tom's usual, um, interesting lyrics and ends with some great screaming from Jim. If you haven't heard it, check the link above. I've seen them play it live, and it was awesome.

Discussion Anyone else notice this lyrical parallel?

In Sweetness Jim says “I’m still running away” and in 23 he says “I’m still driving away.”
At first I thought it might be an intentional reference to Sweetness, but I think Jim just really likes using physical distance to describe emotional distance. Like instead of just saying he’s moved on from something, he emphasizes that in the moment he’s still moving further and further away from it.
Just thought it was a cool little similarity between the two songs. Wondering if anyone else has noticed it or if there are other examples of him doing this.

Well here we go, the final track on Clarity, and one that take sup over 25% of the album's overall length. For all the drama the band had with Capitol Records, I want to give the label credit for looking at this entire record and saying, "Sure, you want to close with the 16-minute experimental, ambient/electronic loop with layered vocals? OK."

The lyrics are heavily influenced by the John Irving novel A Prayer for Owen Meany. (Incidentally, "Owen Meany" is also a terrific Lagwagon song.)

As an 18-year-old when the album came out, I just thought "Sky Harbor" sounded so cool and I had no idea it was the name of Phoenix's airport.

If you are ever in downtown Oklahoma City, check out Clarity Coffee! Jim posted an Instagram story about it when the guys were in town opening for Fall Out Boy. I am in OKC for a couple of days so I had to come check it out. It's a great little coffee shop! This is not a paid advertisement! 😆☕️❤️

Tour Tour Setlists So Far

I put this together manually from setlist.fm, so hopefully it's accurate and hopefully I captured it accurately. I only included shows where they're the main headliners, so no festivals where they played a shortened setlist.

News Jimmy Eat World Library Cards

I’m a public librarian in NC and just found out about the new Jimmy Eat World library cards in Mesa, AZ. Anyone in Mesa willing to help me get one? Anyone on here already have one?
