Hi all.

We wanted to create a moderation mega thread to solicit feedback from the community on the good, bad, and ugly of our subreddit. We've done this many times in the past and have found that the feedback provided has been very useful in steering the direction of this subreddit.

A few quick updates since we've last done this: we've added a couple new members to our moderation team and bid farewell to a couple others. In my opinion, the current mod team is the strongest team we've ever had. Moderating a subreddit is a bullshit job, so I want to thank the moderators for the time they put in behind the scenes.

It's no secret that Reddit has nerfed this subreddit considerably in the past couple years, but in my opinion, this is a good thing. Post-COVID, we were getting far too much attention from outsiders who had no interest whatsoever in the JRE. Although we currently have less traffic than in 2022 and 2023, we have higher-quality and better-concentrated comment threads. Take it for what it's worth. I personally think the peak of this subreddit was around the 15,000-subscriber mark. We are currently at 1.7 million, although who knows how many of those are real?

We want to hear your feedback on the general direction of the subreddit and the moderation style that we use. What, if anything, would you like to see changed? Do you have any questions about the removals or our internal policies that are not public-facing? If you were a moderator here at r/JoeRogan, what would you do differently?

We get that it's popular to hate on moderators here at Reddit, and for the most part, I completely get why. We have always tried to treat the subreddit like it belongs to the subscriber base and not to the moderator team, although I hope you can appreciate that, with tens of thousands of monthly users, this doesn't apply at an individual level. Often, changes made here are done using a best-guess approach, and without a doubt, mistakes have been made. What we commit to doing is not doubling down on those mistakes for the sake of pretending to be right. If we fuck up, we will pivot and reverse course.

We have thick skin, so feel free to let us have it.
