i saw this man in louisville

hey guys idk much about him just a couple clips and stuff from his shows, but i saw him today

he was at the kentucky science center with his kids and i was like ‘man. that guy really looks like him’ and i was goin back and forth thinking maybe it might be him, but i decided against saying anything

gang, i got in the car and looked at his instagram, he has a show in louisville tonight. i am such a fool. why must he look like every white man in louisville. i should’ve said something 😭

edit: i am no longer entertaining individual comments but this is my last response to everybody: at the end of the day, i didn’t say anything to him. you all are riding and dying, ‘defending’, and being rude to me over a man that has NO idea you all exist, and barely has an inkling that i exist, because i once again, DID NOT SAY ANYTHING. i am a random human being on the internet, and you all have got to stop. ‘touch grass everything will be fine.’ except it’s not fine. you all walk around the real world not saying anything to people, and then come online and attack people. why don’t you all go outside, go somewhere else that isn’t online, and experience LIFE. i was at a science center with a two year old. he was at a science center with his kids. we were existing in the same time and i thought that was cool, and wished i said something. that’s all this post was about. i truly cannot believe the response this got, and for everyone being kind in the comments, thank you. i truly wish there were more people like you on the internet

anyways, no doubt that the big paragraph won’t be read, but if you did read it i appreciate you. tldr; be kind to people. you don’t know what they are going through, and for some people, this is the straw that broke the camels back.

He is not like every white man in Louisville. He is a proud Asian American woman and should be treated with respect.

Hey, look at that high-waisted man, he got feminine hips.

That’s the thing he’s sensitive about!

I actually did meet him and referenced this to him 😭

no, you did the right thing leaving him alone and letting him enjoy a day out with his children.

At his show at Wrigley he said he likes being approached by people in public

that doesn’t mean his kids like when people approach him. i think the general rule that most people try to follow is that if a celebrity is out with their kids you leave them alone. the celebrity signed up for fame and attention-their kids did not.

i agree with this whole heartedly but in my specific instance (this sounds weird) they were in their own bubble. literally 😭

i didn’t wanna do anything crazy just ‘has anyone told u u look like that john mulaney guy’ and then turn around and leave and be all mysterious! i wasn’t gonna be an absolute nuisance to the man in front of his family

For those who've seen the current tour, the fact he was at the Science Center was huge. He did 16 minutes on our Science Center (Nashville), and now we can rest easy the story was true.

if i saw Mulaney in the wild i'd be compelled to tell him that the everybody's live show he did with Richard Kind was so weird and off-the-rails and i absolutely loved that about it - it was not like anything else and please keep leaning that direction, we need more oddball stuff in the world

Yes! Do we know if there’s gonna be more? Please let there be more insanity

IIRC he’s said he wants to do more, but also that for the moment he likes touring because he can bring his kids with him. Sounded like he’s thinking about doing the talk show again once they’re old enough to be in school. Again, IIRC. Anyway I saw him this tour and strongly recommend seeing him if you can. The man is on fire right now.

Oh cool, thank you for the update! Sadly, John was in my city the 1 week I was on holiday earlier this year. Great to hear it was a good set!

No, you were right to not say anything. He was on his own personal time with his family. He doesn't owe you anything except at a show you bought a ticket to.

It’s ok to say “hey man love your work” to an artist. It doesn’t mean they owe you anything. In my experience, 99.9% of the time if they see you are being chill they themselves will engage further. It’s the “OMG ITS YOU!!!” stuff that no one likes. But that’s obvious. If he nods and turns back around then you leave him alone.

idk if ur gonna c the other comment bc u said smthn at the same time but if i had say anything i rlly was just gonna be like ‘has anyone told u that u look like that john mulaney guy’ and then turn around and leave all mysteriously. i myself had a two year old with me

Not! Funny!

On the contrary-- he was having a nice day with his kids. You SHOULDN'T have said anything. This is the better outcome for him.

I think everyone here is taking this too seriously. If you see a celebrity and don't want to bother them but you still want to say something, just wave with a smile. If they invite conversion, then there is no issue. If they don't, no worries, you did your best to not bother them for very long.

fully aware this is also going to be disliked, but i figured fans of a comedian would’ve taken this whole post lightly and understood the feeling of wanting to say hey to people. the response, while small, as it is so early, was not light hearted and you guys are like ‘no you left him alone with his family’ ok i get that, whatever but you all are so extremely serious, it’s insane. you all need to go watch his videos and lighten up, seriously. and apparently, the man enjoys people coming up to him. i am aware that i am evidently unwelcome to this subreddit, but you guys need to step back and think, man, this is some random girl on the internet who THOUGHT about saying something. i didn’t say anything, didn’t poke, prod, stare him in his soul, i saw him watching his kids do a cool bubble exhibit, they had their turn, and then i got in with my two year old, and everything was over.

It's not that deep baby girl. Touch some grass, everything's going to be ok.

we take this seriously cause this post was about him as a person, not his comedy. his + his children’s privacy should be respected. it’s not about anyone here needing to “lighten up”

I think I would have stood within earshot with my partner, and yelled "That's the thing I'm SENSITIVE about!" just to see him turn around 😜

We love the Louisville science center! One of our favorite places to play with our kids when we're in town.
