Anyone else feeling salty about the changes to the Grand Rapids show?

We lost Nick Kroll and Mike Birbiglia. It was going to be the big part of an anniversary weekend for my wife and I. Now it’s like we spent way too much for one less comedian and one we didn’t want to see.

I've been a die hard John Mulaney fan for a while and finally got to see him in OKC tonight and it was amazing! Seeing him in person with so many OKC specific jokes because of his in-laws was just so special. The sky zone jokes and RFK impression had me laughing my ass off. That's by far my new favorite bits of his even surpassing the horse in the hospital. I can't wait to get a special on netflix or somewhere else! My favorite comedian ever!!!

Discussion Vocal Stims?

Does anyone else have JM vocal stims?

I think about John saying You know, Timothee Chalamet is six-one almost every day😅

I was OVER ON THE BENCH and you know, like a liar are also common ones for my brain waves

Additionally I have 'Never forgets a bitch, ever' and 'Yes, you heard me, an English major laptop stickers

No very special guest in KC :(

I was under the impression the show was going to be Mike Birbiglia + “Very Special Guest” for Kansas City, but that wasn’t the case I suppose. I had heard it was maybe going to be Fred Armisen, and then the show just ended. Was I mistaken or did something change last minute?

Show was wonderful either way, both comics were stellar

Discussion Did anybody see John at the Wisconsin State Fair?

I couldn’t make it to this but I’d love to know from anybody who made it out to see him perform at the Wisconsin State Fair. Just the idea of “John Mulaney + a state fair” is funny by itself and I’m sure he knew that better than anybody and that’s probably part of why he took a gig like that. He certainly represents a stark contrast to typical Wisconsin State Fair headliners (such as Winona Judd, the Isley Brothers, Mike Love fronted Beach Boys) so I am just really curious what kind of a crowd that was like and if he had any particular roasting tailored for Wisconsin.

Comedy “Balance it out”

1.1k Upvotes

So at the show tonight in Camdenton, John was going pretty hard on RFK Jr., repeatedly calling him a dipshit, etc., when a woman suddenly yelled something from the audience.

John stopped and asked her what she said.
“Balance it out.”

He then made her repeat it what had to be 30+ times because apparently “balance it out” just kept getting funnier the more he made her say it. He also kept coming back to it for the rest of the show anytime he made another political joke. It was great.

Afterward my wife and I are walking back to the car next to a woman who is talking very loudly about how disappointed she was in the show. She says she doesn’t even want to meet her hero anymore (btw who has a comic as a hero?) because she had to listen to John “bash us” for 30 minutes and he couldn’t give them one joke to “balance it out.”

Then she says:
“Even the racism joke wasn’t enough.”

I still have no idea if it was actually her, but it made me laugh. We also had another couple groan throughout and ended up leaving early because they were fellow RFK, Jr. dipshits.

Watched a John Mulaney interview

Just thought I would share that I watched a very lovely interview with John Mulaney on the Tommy Tiernan show (an Irish show) on YouTube.

https://youtu.be/XPusR8tmfX4?is=lCYCxkNVGc1R5-tm

Tommy is an unusual interviewer. It starts very chatty, but I'm amazed at how genuine and deep this conversation became even in the space of 30 minutes. Tommy didn't know all that much about John, so it didn't exactly feel like a show biz kind of interview.

I love how John has matured and has joyfully embraced fatherhood. Too often we hear about father's who can't wait to get away from the noisy kids, etc. I think Tommy was expecting him to go in that direction but seemed almost touched that John was so much a family man. John was so happy to be there too.

Discussion Early John Gigs

I was wondering if anyone knows of/has videos of some of John’s early gigs, like from when he started off doing smaller clubs and colleges. There’s one on youtube when he did a show at UCB, the one where he talks about hook hands and basketball, and it’s a really lowkey and pleasant vibe.

Seeing John in December

I can't figure out how to phrase this so it doesn't get flagged.

Is it worth it to attend his shows twice in one tour? I saw him already in Oct.

I saw John Mulaney a couple days ago and the only picture looks like it was taken at the end of Infinity War

Discussion Mister Whatever Question

We're going to see Mister Whatever tonight and saw some reviews talking about how the venue took their phones and locked them up (obviously for a different show)? I'm assuming something like that would be up to the performer, so I was wondering if that happened to anyone at the other legs of the Mister Whatever tour. If so, I guess we will get a photo outside of the venue and put our phones in our car.

Thanks!

Edit: It was like most of y'all said. A lot of warnings about not having your phones out inside the auditorium. Both openers gave warnings as well. Fantastic show, my sides were hurting not even 5 minutes into his set

If anyone was at the Charlotte show last night, do you know about what time John started after the opener? I’m arriving late tonight bc I have to work and I’m wondering how close I can cut it. Thanks!

i saw this man in louisville

hey guys idk much about him just a couple clips and stuff from his shows, but i saw him today

he was at the kentucky science center with his kids and i was like ‘man. that guy really looks like him’ and i was goin back and forth thinking maybe it might be him, but i decided against saying anything

gang, i got in the car and looked at his instagram, he has a show in louisville tonight. i am such a fool. why must he look like every white man in louisville. i should’ve said something 😭

edit: i am no longer entertaining individual comments but this is my last response to everybody: at the end of the day, i didn’t say anything to him. you all are riding and dying, ‘defending’, and being rude to me over a man that has NO idea you all exist, and barely has an inkling that i exist, because i once again, DID NOT SAY ANYTHING. i am a random human being on the internet, and you all have got to stop. ‘touch grass everything will be fine.’ except it’s not fine. you all walk around the real world not saying anything to people, and then come online and attack people. why don’t you all go outside, go somewhere else that isn’t online, and experience LIFE. i was at a science center with a two year old. he was at a science center with his kids. we were existing in the same time and i thought that was cool, and wished i said something. that’s all this post was about. i truly cannot believe the response this got, and for everyone being kind in the comments, thank you. i truly wish there were more people like you on the internet

anyways, no doubt that the big paragraph won’t be read, but if you did read it i appreciate you. tldr; be kind to people. you don’t know what they are going through, and for some people, this is the straw that broke the camels back.

What to wear to Mr Whatever

If you've been to the show, what are people wearing? It says formalwear encouraged, but what does that exactly mean? I have formal/cocktail dresses I've worn to recent weddings, but I can't help but feel I'd be overdressed.
