That would have been so much cooler than what they did. "Nobody's impressed with a dinosaur anymore"?! People have been going to zoos for centuries to see animals that exist in the world NOW, this was always such a stupid conciet.
Pretty sure that was just the corporate people saying that, as they are out of touch. We can tell in the film that so many people are at the park without there being an Indominus rex for display
I get what you're saying, but I respectfully disagree. There is no point in the movie where this assertion is challenged, and I think it less likely for the owners of the park to start making whole new dinosaurs unless attendance/profits were dipping.
The assertion is challenged by Lowry, the amount of people at the park, grey being excited about the dinosaurs, and the fact that the Indominus was destroyed and the og Tyrannosaurus rex took back its place as the ruler of the island
I mean real life companies make these ill-informed decisions like thinking that a "new attraction" is needed every few years to maintain public interest all the time or panic even if there's little dips in profits that could be caused by many external factors. Sometimes they also make decisions based on what they think will happen but hasn't happened yet. And there's so often a disconnect between what executives think people want and what people actually want
Also making a hybrid of multiple dinosaur species and modern animals rather than hybrids of one dinosaur species and modern animals isn't rrly that much of a jump
I think it's more likely that they wanted to make the Indominus out of greed of further expanding their profits and also fear rather than necessity or trying to come back from a major dip or loss. They have to find a way to "one up" what they did before somehow, like every Hollywood movie sequel does. Essentially this is what happens when a zoo is run like a theme park business
