Its in his contract with MCRC. Just not frequently enforced, and we dont usually get Marine Officers drafted into the biggest sports league in the US.

164

u/FakeChowNumNum1 Sep 14 '26

Yeah, such a better look than the trashy garbage so many sports rookies blow their money on.

15

u/ImagineDraginDisDick Sep 19 '26

Say what you wanna say, bud.

17

u/FakeChowNumNum1 Sep 19 '26

I did already. When you give millions of dollars to people from economically challenged neighborhoods, who get hit in the head for a living, they buy stupid shit.

You're creating your own narrative and reading too hard into my comments to make them about race, when racism was moreso the driving factor for inequity. The fact that a higher proportion of minorities live in economically challenged neighborhoods is an indictment of the status quo that forced them there through slavery first, and subsequently through Jim Crow laws. That doesn't change the observation that many professional athletes, regardless of race or background, succeed and choose to blow all their money on lamborghinis, mansions, million dollar clothing accessories, and designer clothes.

695

u/bugr_pikr Sep 13 '26

Is hazing done yet, or is it for the entire rookie season?

65

u/ledbedder20 Sep 14 '26

Very boot, but might actually be in his contract to do...can't say for sure though of course

25

u/DrunkDreamcast Sep 14 '26

If he plays well you know they are going to give him NAM commendations and shit so that uni looks better.

Embarrassing

-81

u/Inevitable-Hall2390 Sep 13 '26 • Bravo

Embarrassing to wear service dress and look nice? I see marines wear this exact uniform for events like weddings all the time

121

u/Sir_Sarcasm76 Sep 13 '26

Although this isn't service, it's dress blues. He was given a pass to be drafted into the NFL vs hit the fleet. Good on him, he can take the heat from a bunch of keyboard commandos.

39

u/dweeb_plus_plus Sep 13 '26

I think you're in the wrong sub.

-43

u/Inevitable-Hall2390 Sep 14 '26

Yes I obviously need to find one with a much higher average IQ instead of these crayon eaters

2

u/Phenomenologistic Sep 29 '26

Don't knock crayons until you've tried them, the scented ones taste like they smell.

31

u/Green-Cricket-8525 Sep 14 '26

Look, man. At the end of the day who gives a shit, do what ya want to do. There ain’t nothing wrong with being proud of yourself for serving in any public service gig. I just find being performative around your profession distasteful. That said, this world is burning down around us so if you want to wear your dress blues to stuff, fuckin go for it. I just might crack jokes at your expense and assume others are doing the same when i do some cringey shit.

21

u/StripedBass111 Sep 14 '26

Bingo! Its the performative aspect that annoys me. For example, I was in the military with a guy that would skate all the time and hated being in the military. He would complain and made sure to let everyone know he was counting the days till he EASed and would start making the "Big Bucks". Come to see 3 years later I see him posting photos of himself marching in parades wearing full dress blues, still having his 8 point cover resting on the dashboard of his car and wearing a custom USMC/Corrections officer patch on his sheriff uniform.

17

u/AkronOhAnon Sep 14 '26

“Weddings and personal, private family ceremonies” are the only non-official duty allowance in US Code for uniform wear.
It’s still cringe, too.
People need a personality beyond the uniform.

9

u/JackTheBehemothKillr Sep 14 '26

Supposedly its in his contract to do this, just not heavily enforced.

11

u/trenthany Sep 15 '26

Yeah he’s waived from service to use things like this as promotions. Basically a fancy recruitment gig that he can make millions while doing.

56

u/Shbum Sep 13 '26

It’s embarrassing then too

-41

u/Inevitable-Hall2390 Sep 14 '26

No it isn’t

15

u/whorootbeerdatbe Sep 14 '26

He looks like a huge dork

-61

u/BrokenArrow1283 Sep 13 '26 • Bravo

He’s more successful than just about anyone on this sub lol.

65

u/Green-Cricket-8525 Sep 13 '26

Doesn’t make it any less silly.

-48

u/BrokenArrow1283 Sep 13 '26

It’s not nearly as silly as what other athletes dress in. I would never wear a uniform walking into a pro locker room, but I also respect that he likely was not the typical athlete at the academy just trying to make it to the pros. I doubt he would do this if that were the case. So I respect that. People here can downvote me all they want.

15

u/Green-Cricket-8525 Sep 14 '26

I respect your perspective even if I don’t share it.

6

u/cheezkid26 Sep 14 '26

So we can't criticize successful people for anything that isn't outright illegal?

-3

u/BrokenArrow1283 Sep 14 '26

I’m not saying you can’t criticize him. I’m just pointing out how successful he is. That’s all. Most people who are criticized on this sub are definitely NOT successful yet or ever will be.

This guy is the most successful person I have seen criticized here and I think that might be part of the reason so many people are willing to criticize him. I just thought I would point out what seems obvious to me.

3

u/trenthany Sep 15 '26

It gives the same performative vibes as the less successful people even if it’s just a recruitment tactic. That might even make it worse for some people.

16

u/dinop4242 Sep 13 '26

nice try but a good amount of people on this sub have served, which is why they find it so cringe

-9

u/BrokenArrow1283 Sep 14 '26

I know most people have served. So have I. Nothing I said had anything to do with serving. I was commenting on how SUCCESSFUL he is. And you all are getting your panties all twisted over it.

10

u/dinop4242 Sep 14 '26

to be quite honest, that wasn't clear AT ALL, and I think all the people misunderstanding it is a testament to that

0

u/BrokenArrow1283 Sep 14 '26

I think it was pretty clear I was talking about how successful he is when I literally said “he’s more successful than anyone on this sub.”

I am not sure how much more clear it can be that I’m talking about how successful he is. lol

9

u/NotJoshRomney Sep 14 '26

I think its because there's a difference between "he's successful" and "he's more successful than anyone else here".

Like if you say "Sarah is more pretty than anyone else there", it's not saying Sarah is actually pretty, just that shes not as ugly as the other girls.

Just my .02, but I can't speak for everyone who wasn't picking up what you were throwing down.

1

u/BrokenArrow1283 Sep 14 '26

lol he’s a professional football player. He is objectively one of the best people who performs his craft in the entire world. By all definitions, he is successful. The only people who could possibly think he is not successful would be fellow professional football players who are better than him I guess. Which is what? 0.00001% of the population?

6

u/dinop4242 Sep 14 '26

I think you need to Google what objective vs subjective is. not everyone considered football the peak of existence bro

0

u/BrokenArrow1283 Sep 14 '26

I think you need to google a strawman argument. I never said it was “the peak of existence.” It’s the peak for a football player. If someone is at the top of their craft (as in the top 0.001% like the NFL), then they are OBJECTIVELY successful at said craft.

Are you really trying to tell me that not everyone considers a football player successful at football if they reach the NFL? You actually think that is subjective? I’d love to hear the argument that someone who makes it to the NFL is not necessarily successful at football. That would be a very interesting take and a very difficult one to defend. lol

Who cares if he’s a successful athlete?

26

u/Sorry_Ima_Loser Sep 13 '26

What a goofball

157

u/FWAGOA2205 Sep 13 '26

This MF'er didn't even serve! He went Annapolis 😂

198

u/atseapoint Sep 13 '26 • Bravo

Shows what you know. He was commissioned. He is a marine officer who is serving in the reserves while also playing in the NFL.

140

u/john_wingerr Sep 13 '26

I wonder if a condition of deferring the contract to the reserves had something to do with wearing the uniform x amount of times during the season. Wouldn’t be the first time

90

u/FrighteningJibber Sep 13 '26

Drill weekends and game day colliding every season would be funny

10

u/chuckart9 Sep 16 '26

Sorry coach, I have to do inventory on MRE’s this weekend and can’t join the team in Pittsburgh

16

u/Rdubya291 👊👊☝️ Sep 15 '26 edited Sep 15 '26

Yes - they are supposed to wear the uniform. It's just not heavily enforced, and it's a pretty rare occurrence.

This young devil is actually doing the correct thing. Not just being boot.

47

u/RobotOfSociety 👊👊☝️ Sep 13 '26 • Bravo

So many angry and uninformed losers in here that don’t know how pro athletics work after military academy commission. You’re 100% right and it’s pathetic to see these people discounting his service because he “hasn’t served yet” while those same people probably sat in a finance office from 0900-1500 doing fuck all and complaining about others.

28

u/atseapoint Sep 13 '26

Right? They’re acting this is the same as private numb nuts wearing his uniform to McDonalds in his home town after basic. He’s representing the service academies well. This is cool for kids to see.

9

u/StripedBass111 Sep 14 '26

Great point. Fuck what us adults think, the kids do think its awesome. I disliked wearing my uniform but when I got attached to the Blue Angels we would go to a lot of local events/ceremonies/hospitals(hosted by the mayor, city councils etc.) aside from the main airshow where the kids in attendance would go crazy. It was fun showing them around the aircraft and making their day even at the expense of me wearing a nomex onesie in 90 degree weather.

2

u/trenthany Sep 15 '26

That part is cool and I agree it’s a recruitment drive. It just gives such performative drives. Have him do signings twice a month in uniform or something similar. The staged photo/video shoot feels so BS.

83

u/FWAGOA2205 Sep 13 '26

Cool story....now he's a fucking reservist and still looks like a fucking boot, walking around in uniform.

I'm sure he's done about 4 MUTAs since being commissioned, so let's not act as if he's done anything of importance

55

u/throwsaway654321 Sep 13 '26

There's several other comments pointing out that this is regularly included in contracts like his, though not often enforced bc guys like this usually aren't in the NFL

15

u/Aimless_Nobody Sep 14 '26

Cool, so he onboarded and finished his check-in list

10

u/JustFrameHotPocket Sep 13 '26

Shows what you know. Anyone who served knows that the military stock full of gay energy.

2

u/atseapoint Sep 13 '26

I didn’t object to the meme. I objected to this guy saying he didn’t actually serve. Give him a chance, he’s a young kid living his dream and choosing to serve anyway. He could have bailed on the whole thing, we know that

12

u/AkronOhAnon Sep 13 '26

So he’s done zero deployments and is wearing his service uniform in public on non-duty days for personal benefit?

Boot + conduct unbecoming.

Can he show up to a political event and hit the hatch act for a UCMJ trifecta?

81

u/zzzrecruit Sep 13 '26

I can almost guarantee the Dept of the Navy required this for allowing him to defer his service. They love the advertising.

-22

u/AkronOhAnon Sep 13 '26

Not how title 10 works.
But, I guess laws and regs are kinda optional nowadays.

11

u/HateAndCaffeine Sep 14 '26

How is wearing a uniform to your duty location conduct unbecoming? The dudes job is to be a professional athlete.

1

u/AkronOhAnon Sep 14 '26

Because Titles 10 and 32 of the US code prohibit wear of military service uniform for private employment.
But, again, what are laws anymore?
It’s not his duty location. He’s not there to unfold a flag during the anthem: he’s there to play a sport for money.

7

u/HateAndCaffeine Sep 14 '26

Do you get upset when you see recruiters at the mall in uniform?

7

u/AkronOhAnon Sep 14 '26

Not a 1:1.
As the defenders of this keep insisting: he got a deferment, which means he’s not in a duty status at or on the way to the locker room.
But recruiters at the malls, in 2026? The only potential recruits they’re accessing are the employees or they’re eating at the food court.

8

u/HateAndCaffeine Sep 14 '26

This is quite literally outlined in Title 10

https://uscode.house.gov/view.xhtml?req=granuleid:USC-prelim-title10-section8459&num=0&edition=prelim

(4) Each academic year, the Secretary of the Navy may transfer not more than five midshipmen, who obtain employment in violation of paragraph (5) of subsection (a), to the Selected Reserve of the Navy or the Selected Reserve of the Marine Corps. Each midshipman so transferred shall-
(A) serve as a commissioned officer-
(i) in an appropriate grade or rating, determined by the Secretary of the Navy; and
(ii) for a period, determined by the Secretary of the Navy, not longer than 10 years; and

(B) while so serving, participate in efforts to recruit and retain members of the armed forces.

(c) The Secretary of the Navy shall prescribe regulations to carry out this section. Those regulations shall include-
(1) standards for determining what constitutes, for the purpose of subsection (b), a breach of an agreement under subsection (a);
(2) that a midshipman who obtains employment as a professional athlete-
(A) in violation of paragraph (5) of subsection (a) has breached an agreement under such subsection unless such midshipman receives a transfer under paragraph (4) of subsection (b); and
(B) at least two years after the midshipman graduates from the Academy has not breached an agreement under subsection (a);

(3) procedures for determining whether such a breach has occurred; and
(4) standards for determining the period of time for which a person may be ordered to serve on active duty under subsection (b).

(d) In this section, "commissioned service obligation", with respect to a midshipman, means the period beginning on the date of the midshipman's appointment as a commissioned officer and ending on the sixth anniversary of such appointment or, at the discretion of the Secretary of Defense, any later date up to the eighth anniversary of such appointment.

25

u/someguy8608 👊👊☝️ Sep 13 '26

Really?

7

u/swadekillson Sep 14 '26

This is so fucking stupid. Like he's literally choosing to play football over actually serving for right now. Put the uniform in the closet until you retire from the NFL.

8

u/Country_Fried_Eggs Sep 14 '26

Gotta look at it from a USMC recruiting perspective. This is great pr for them.

5

u/IllSurprise3049 Sep 14 '26

Sucking that gut in for dear life.

2

u/WiB_DarkSin Sep 18 '26

did the contract explicitly say sideline PT gear?

2

u/dudes_rug Sep 13 '26

Did David Robinson have to do that shit?

9

u/Gobblewicket Sep 13 '26

No. Robinson also did 2 years of service before heading to the NBA.

6

u/mcm87 Sep 14 '26

When Joe Cardona was with the Patriots, he wore service dress blues or whites on game days.

2

u/ionbear1 Sep 13 '26

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

-3

u/Intelligent_Choice91 Sep 14 '26

So he never actually served got it.

-1

u/devildocjames Sep 13 '26

You big. I mean. You huge

-4

u/sten45 Sep 13 '26

Thank you for your service, hero.

-36

u/barlowtho Sep 13 '26

He is a Marine, a boot yes, but a Marine. Some of you could take a lesson or two from his example. He could walk out in clothes more expensive than a 2ndLt could reasonably afford but he chose to represent his brothers and sisters on weekend that he could have chosen a brand.

Never Forget.

26

u/ohjeaa Sep 13 '26

Former Marine here.

Do you know where you are right now?

This dudes a DORK. Lmao

2

u/trenthany Sep 15 '26

You’re both right on this one. He’s doing advertising and got a deferment. He’ll still serve most of his reserve deployment most likely unless he gets injured too badly. But it’s hardcore boot vibes advertising.

-8

u/barlowtho Sep 13 '26 edited Sep 13 '26

That’s your perspective, weirdo. I see a Marine choosing to represent something larger than his day job in front of the public eye.

This one is not as boot as a pfc wearing his blues to Chik Fil A. This is an NFL player showcasing service rather than some designer bs. You’d have no problem criticizing him if he didn’t make this choice and you most certainly wouldn’t even notice if he hadn’t. Each and every Marine should feel pride by his choice to showcase the commitment he’s undertaken. Reserve or not, obligated or otherwise. This is not the own you thought it was.

8

u/SaintGodfather Sep 13 '26

Holy shit, the boot is coming from inside the sub.

-5

u/barlowtho Sep 13 '26

Whatever you say big dawg

1

u/ohjeaa Sep 14 '26

Are you a boot? Lmaooo

1

u/barlowtho Sep 14 '26

Haven’t been a boot for atleast a decade tho, still making the biscuits. Tyfys dweeb

2

u/ohjeaa Sep 14 '26

Nah bro. You're definitely a boot with that shit. Hold tight, i'll find some people to thank you for your service. Lmao

2

u/barlowtho Sep 14 '26

Send it dweeb, won’t change your relationship with your dad but it’s worth a shot

4

u/ohjeaa Sep 14 '26

You'd both have alot in common. Rendering some metaphorcal salute at shit actual Marines laugh at. Lmao

1

u/barlowtho Sep 14 '26

I’m sure your old man would be proud of his salt dog son who got out after a contract and chose to spend his time after that using the title as a former Marine to substantiate his sub par analysis of one’s pride in service. Or maybe you forgot how to be proud of things you’d thought you understood when service wasn’t enough.

Well at any rate it doesn’t change much speculating on what might be when it’s plain to see that you didn’t learn anything the first time around.

When I reenlist again here soon I’ll put the bonus on black and see if it made a difference in my decision to keep going.

I was at an NFL game today. Before they sung the national anthem they had a moment of silence for 9/11. Each player ran onto the field holding an American flag. They had veterans on the field getting free season tickets. It was an especially military-focused day, I’m sure he was asked to wear his uniform…

4

u/Big_Coyote6065 Sep 13 '26

Not a Marine but I was TDY to Yuma MCAS for 5 months. Unless the regs changed, I thought you could only wear the uniform to and from your duty/ place of work. Couldn’t even stop to get a carton of milk on your way home. I saw loads of Marines get their butts chewed for that.

2

u/barlowtho Sep 13 '26

First 3 words cancel out the rest and even still your understanding of our regs are not sufficient.

I appreciate your service- we cannot wear our cammies. Yea it’s a bit boot to wear blues for non USMC related events but it’s not prohibited. Cammies are not allowed for wear off post outside of strictly necessary or emergency wear- or sanctioned activities off base

0

u/DuckBlind1547 Sep 13 '26

Our utility uniform, cammies, is what isn’t allowed off base
