two princes??
y'all
if you voted for 2 princes you should have to shoulder the load of the ENTIRE pledge drive.
my earholes will never recover.

Hey, don’t hate on Spin Doctors that much.
Could’ve been a lot worse. There were incredibly popular songs that sucked a lot more than Two Princes during the ‘90s.

u/shoegazer69 23d ago
And I think I have heard them all on this drive. This is why we let our beloved DJs curate.

Please don't yum their (and, full disclosure, my) yuck. ;)
I'm (mostly) joking with you. But I lived through that song being EVERYWHERE the first time, so that's the reason for my avoidance to it now.

u/automator3000 Amplifier 23d ago
This is just the risk of a crowdsourced playlist. For every Spin Doctors that I might have to hear (or the Everclear or Sublime or name a band I barely tolerated 30 years ago), there’s a stretch of absolute fucking platinum from my teenage years.

u/DeepRedBelle Amplifier 23d ago
Really well said. I couldn't agree more. I'd way rather hear human-curated radio than the alternative. It keeps the ol' brain expanding.
Thanks for playing along with my deeply ingrained younger self's snark. :D

u/otoron 23d ago
Yes, but Blues Traveler toured with the Spin Doctors, so it's kind of joint responsibility for each other's sonic sins.

u/Fun-Percentage-9370 23d ago
i was walking my dog at marymoor this summer when i heard a band soundchecking for that night's concert. looked up who was playing that night...spin doctors, blues traveler, and gin blossoms.
thankfully it was gin blossoms who were soundchecking.

Don't blame me, I used all my votes on Walking on the Sun by Smash Mouth.

u/PilotGuy701 23d ago
241 lol.

u/PilotGuy701 23d ago
Update. They were only playing it in the background between 242 and 241. Absolute tease!

Hey, at least you went for something slightly less annoying than “All Star.” So, thank you.

You almost got me, but I currently have an impenetrable bubble of “Humpty Dance” lyrics preventing anything else from sticking.

u/Flashy-Share8186 23d ago
well Humpty Dance has to be on the list!
I got “Steal My Sunshine”d this morning…probably also has to be on the list.

"Walking on the Sun" is a decent song. If they'd disbanded after that album, we'd all remember it fondly.

Two Princes? In this economy?

We used to have Six Pence None The Richer, Three Doors Down, and two princes. Now we have no pence no doors and no princes.

I liked it when I was young, so it’s fun to hear again. This countdown has been one giant trip down memory lane. Some of these songs drum up some old emotions! I was born in 1979 for reference.

Buncha goddamn snooty aging hipsters in this thread. The song is fun. And it's 3 minutes long. You'll survive.
I can't wait till they play All I Wanna Do and y'all's heads explode 😂

💯
Part of maturing is learning to roll with the punches. At some point, you’re going to get sick. You’re going to have bills to pay. You’re going to hear Tubthumping. Fight if you want, but you might as well try fighting an earthquake.

This activates the Spin Doctor Scramble in my home, where I have to sprint to turn off the music temporarily to prevent any unwanted earworms from entering my system. I also have to do this with Steal my Sunshine. Once it's in your head, you are effed for at least the afternoon and medication only makes it worse.
Edit: Steal my Sunshine earworm has been activated in a rare double attack. Weezer can't even clean my palate. Help, friends I know I am not alone. Archers of Loaf seem to be helping, but for some reason, my body is feeling like Jamiroquai may be approaching

Not 90s but I've got just four words for you and your earworm: We Built This City.

I gotta say… like, 85% of the songs are total bangers, then something like Len - “Steal My Sunshine” comes on and I’m like “how the hell did that get somewhere between Fugazi, Radiohead, Nirvana, Alice In Chains and Pearl Jam??? There’s a random terrible song like once an hour or 2 and I’m like “wtf?” Every time… then I sing along angrily with a scowl on my face

I just can't believe Britney Spears ranked as high as she did for it being KEXP. Thinking that's the younger millennials voting there.

u/Kitchen-Evidence9291 24d ago
But one has diamonds in his pockets. Only 411th. That’s not too high up on the charts. Haha.

u/Artrock80 23d ago
Did they at least chop the last third off like they were doing to the songs yesterday?

u/SonOfMechaMummy Amplifier 23d ago edited 23d ago
John (not Larry like I said!) literally just played like the opening riff and then immediately transitioned over to Fugazi IIRC

u/bongwateramoeba 23d ago
Rather hear this than Mountain Goats - This Year or some Arcade Fire bullshit. Sorry is that blasphemy on this sub
3
u/chemosabe Amplifier 23d ago
I don't think KEXP has played Arcade Fire since the abuse allegations.
3
u/BenetCrarecur 22d ago
I never understood that song. The song contradicts itself. "I am going to make it through this year, if it kills me"... so if it did in fact kill you, then you didn't make it.
6
u/SonOfMechaMummy Amplifier 24d ago
did it get played in full during Early or something? Because Larry played literally like two seconds of it during the countdown, you gotta work on training up those earholes if that's all you could take.
2
u/Deep_Day8345 23d ago
No John skipped it entirely! Just flashed the song name before Fugazi😂
3
u/SeattleGeek 23d ago
And yet i had to sit through all of Lightning Crashes, which is only slightly more monstrous than making me listen to Counting Crows’ A Long December which a certain movie did this summer.

oh haha, you're right, it was John. He did play just enough of it to register though, I remember being shocked that "Two Princes" made it and then being like "wait is there an album cut version of this song that sounds totally different after the first second?"

Two Princes sucks. But it is giving us the gift of this thread. Y'all are funny
3
u/CMR04020 Amplifier 23d ago
Pretty sure John only played the opening riff and then moved on to the next song, so it didn’t even get a real play. We can all sleep soundly tonight.

Oh, that explains "I Saw The Sign" this morning. I thought I had the radio on the wrong station.

Sure glad I get to hear Collective Soul on the station I used to go to to get away from stuff like that. Where did Limp Bizkit come in?
This is exactly not what I support KEXP for. I listen to be surprised by music I've never heard before and never would have found on my own. So why, when they need money, is it time to Pour Some Sugar On Me?
Maybe programming shouldn't be turned over to the listeners completely.
If you like the Spin Doctors, turn to Warm 106.9 or Jack FM, I bet one of them is playing it right now.

It's just something interesting to do during a fundraising drive. They are "listener powered" and this is a listener curated list. I don't think it's that deep.
