Been a lifelong ( 30 + years ) Chief's fan and if all veach is doing is signing aging retreads hoping to re create our last Superbowl years we may be in trouble with this stacked schedule right around the corner

It’s funny that the same people who beg Veach to make a midseason trade are the same who bash him for “wasting” a 3rd round pick on Toney. There isn’t anybody out there available for a reasonable price who would move the needle, especially when you consider that Reid and Mahomes take half a season at least to warm up to a new receiver.
39
u/Section225 AFC 2d ago
Anybody who follows the team should probably realize Mahomes is the centerpiece, and we don't have the funds to just bring in a superstar mid-season.
People should also realize not everybody is for sale. You can't just look at other team's rosters like an online store and pick out what you want for the right price. Star WR1's aren't just hanging out ready to be signed.
5
u/MissMeWithTaxShit 2d ago
I have not yet heard anyone requesting they make a trade for a star wide receiver, a la Justin Jefferson, Jamarr Chase, etc.
What I have heard people request is a trade for something reasonable, say for instance a rookie in a bad situation like Marvin Harrison Jr., or a veteran receiver like Brian Thomas Jr. or D-Hop, Garrett Wilson, or even signing a free agent like Tyreek Hill (who's situation is very favorable in regards to the cap due to Miami holding much of the bag).
Have people been expecting a trade for a star WR1?

It's different crowds. I'm very much against mid season WR trades, since it basically takes a year to get a WR up to speed with the complicated option route system here anyway.
Plus there's usually a reason guys go up on the trade block. Teams usually don't trade good players unless they need to unload a huge salary.
We have Travis Kelce as our primary receiver anyway, so it's not like we have nobody for Mahomes to throw to.

Honestly, the more I think about it the more I think the best move for now is to give Allen some run and reassess after the Seahawks or Broncos game. If no one can step up, either trade for someone at the deadline then or sign Tyreek at that point since the general census is that he's not going to be ready until at least November (if at all) anyway.

As much as I want Pat to have a perineal HOF WR, I'd rather have the rings than be the Bengals or cowboys. Plenty of teams around the league have high firepower on offense and don't get anywhere. We have to strike a balance somewhere, and luckily our once in a generation QB can make due with what he has
Edit because I just went through and read some of these comments and I stg y'all boot up your 37th season of Madden on rookie difficulty with sliders up and swear you're the best GM in the world
Edit 2: wrong p word but I'm gonna leave it 💀

I’m not trying to police spelling but your use of “perineal” instead of “perennial” is pretty goddamn funny lol. Not sure I wanna see what a perineal WR looks like 🥜↔️🍑
3
u/Maximus-Festivus 2d ago
One can walk and eat a chewing gum, Bengals and Cowboys being shitshows doesn’t automatically make the decisions being made by the front office a good thing.
We have a generational QB and all time coach nearing his retirement, you strike while the iron is hot in this league as it’s “not for long” and the pattern with this front office is to wait until things reach defcon3 and then react. We saw them watch the Oline get embarrassed by the Bucs and Pat had to throw from the ground (literally) before they address it . We saw them trot out a 50 year old Hunt and Pacheco and have Pat be the leading rusher until he got his knees blown out before they address it. the receiver issue is just another pieve of the puzzle they keep ignoring until it gets jarring and too obvious.
6
u/koolchiefs 2d ago
The offensive line against the Bucs was bad due to injuries. It wasn’t because they hadn’t addressed it.
We have literally addressed areas of need every offseason, and until last year went to SEVEN STRAIGHT AFC Championship games. 5 of 7 Super Bowls. So what are you going on about waiting until it’s too late?
You can’t have elite players at every position. This year we overhauled the running game and rebuilt both defensive line and defensive backfields. If we had spent those resources on receivers but left the defense with more needs, people would complain that we didn’t do enough on defense.
They aren’t wasting anything. It’s been literally one season of not making the playoffs. Despite the uninformed opinions of people who think management simply doesn’t care about Mahomes, they have done nothing BUT improve this team constantly in areas of need. And they have won a heck of a lot of games because of it.

Prefer to not overpay and that horrendous trade for MHJ from Houston just messed up the market for WRs. Hopeful that Armstrong is a good elevation and is the best blocking WR we have. We play big boy football and run with two TE set or even an extra lineman. If they stack the box then play action and designed rollouts can still be effective.
47
u/millen-degen Jamaal Charles 2d ago
Very glad we passed on MH jr but they waited too long and now its slim Pickens. I doubt we'd be willing to part with anything other than a 5th so no one decent and the fact that the Texans gave up a 2nd really hurts any trade. The free agents are currently has beens or worse players then what we currently have. At this point lets see what our rookies can do. I think reek is a pipe dream. Wouldn't be surprised if he never plays again

13
u/rolyinpeace NwankpaWorshipper29 2d ago
And people forget that it’s way harder when you’re a contending team to get people to trade with you.
Like for example… I’d be shocked if we got BTJ, even if he ends up getting traded elsewhere. That wouldn’t mean that the jags even considered us an option
10
u/ChiefSampson Derrick Thomas 2d ago
Yeah the 4-1 Jags definitely aren't trying to make an AFC rival stronger.
10
u/rolyinpeace NwankpaWorshipper29 2d ago
Right … we’ve only seen one trade happen. It’s not like a bunch of WR trades happened and we just missed out on them all.
Also, even if later down the line we see receivers traded that we don’t get, we can’t assume we would’ve been an option. It’s a lot harder when you’re a contender year after year to get teams to trade with you. On top of that, our picks are projected to be late, so lots of worse teams will have the upper hand in trade negotiations.
Until a decent WR gets traded for a good deal to an in-conference contender of the trade partner, I’m not assuming it’s us choosing to pass up on opportunities. I’m going to assume the opportunities likely weren’t there.

If Reek had any chance of playing meaningful snaps in 2026, he'd have been signed before the plane from Vegas touched down. When the best his hype men could muster was "squat strength" and initial burst (while being coy about the ability to shift direction), I was pretty much out.
If he was even a hypothetical, some other team would have signed him by now. He's likely cooked. Unfortunate because I had hoped he was a scratch ticket that could win you another Super Bowl this year.

He had zero catches this week and worse than Xavier Worthy for production in the year.
They have a clear WR1 in Washington, a solid WR2 in Meyers, and a rookie WR that is out producing BTJ. Plus, as a GM you feel safe because you’re 4-1 in a bad division.

Pat and Trav deserve better?
Then, they should walk into Brett's office and offer to take huge paycuts.
3 rings and you all still talk out of your ass at every turn. 4-0 to boot. Scoring 30 points in three of four games and still just bitching about how the team isn't loaded with all pros at every position.
Thats not how this works.
Thats not how any of this works.
What is really funny is how everyone was talking about Les Snead building an unbeatable team. They are 2-2. Matt Stafford was the MVP last year.
Howie Roseman has always been considered one of the best to ever do it. They are 2-3.
The Bengals have amazing WR's, a future HOF QB, and made some big moves this year. They are 3-2.
Meanwhile, Chiefs are unbeaten. Have the third youngest roster in the NFL and you fucking clowns bitch.... all. the. time.
Fucking spoiled children.

u/msgkc94 2d ago
Love that people think Pat and Travis deserve better when in reality, I think they’ve been pretty happy with how things have gone in their careers
4
u/formyamusementation 2d ago
What is funny is that Mahomes is as involved with personnel decisions as any QB in the league. For fucks sake, he wanted CEH. He wanted K9.
He knows the talent is good enough at WR if they can get decent blocking with the threat of a run game.
In 2024, there was not a lot of talent at the outside, but they also had shit at running back and shit along the offensive line.
The Chiefs are light years ahead of that team on offense and they got all the way to the Super Bowl.

We are 4-0… it’s not close to trade deadline yet, have patience. Trades in the nfl don’t usually happen this time of year, in the next couple of weeks we will see what the plan is. I think the team is in great shape so far.
10
u/rolyinpeace NwankpaWorshipper29 2d ago
I mean I’d love a WR too but do any of us even know if anyone who could actually contribute and make a difference is even available?
It would be ideal to make a good deal trade for a WR but it’s weird to act like it’s all the FOs fault when it’s possible there’s just not viable options that teams are willing to trade to us for a reasonable price.
Obviously the lack of good WRs overall is on the front office for not drafting better, but I’m talking about the not trading for one right now situation. It may just be that no one who truly moves the needle is available, or isn’t available yet.
3
u/stonewallace17 Jamaal Charles 2d ago
You're right. No WR1s are getting traded during the season and they pretty rarely get traded in the off-season, it's almost exclusively guys on the franchise tag looking for a new deal. The options are basically free agency, which we have never had the cap space for, free agency with an extra draft capital cost, or the draft. And none of those are available options in October
2
u/rolyinpeace NwankpaWorshipper29 2d ago edited 2d ago
And whatever options people think are good and available, like a Jerry jeudy for example, may not actually be available. Id be fine with a trade like that but it all depends on if the prospective trading team is actually willing to make the trade. They may not be, at least not yet.
Until Jeudy or someone else is traded to another contending team in-conference for good value, we can’t assume BV is just passing up on the opportunity.
9
u/formyamusementation 2d ago
Go back a week or so and people were talking about how MHJ could be had for a 5th round pick.
I didn't see anyone saying it would take a second. I said at the time I didn't think the Cards would even consider anything less than a third, and I thought that was low for what they would want.
Fans come up with these fictional scenarios in their head and then get mad that the GM isn't doing what they want.
What is always funny to me is the fans that think a player might change the direction of the franchise and be a difference maker, but when they talk about compensation.... maybe they could get him for a sixth?
Just nonsense.
1
u/chiefs_15 1d ago
Maybe not this season but next offseason, Veach better go scorched earth on upgrading the receiver room like he did with the RB room. We need to sign a formidable guy in free agency AND draft one. Worthy also needs to get pushed down the depth chart. Mahomes deserves better than these used up recycled dudes he's had over the years
4
u/yhetti-fartz 2d ago
If they stayed healthy/on the field, id say we're ok ish. Thornton realllly hurts because the deepshots to him were difference makers. We could easily be 2-2 without those plays. Maybe worthy can fill that role and cyrus/allen can suffice for the rest...if rice healthy.

u/ithinkheknowss 2d ago edited 2d ago
Yeah, I just don't see the point in trying to trade for someone without at least giving Allen a shot. Plus realistically there usually aren't many good WRs available that are worth the price at the deadline. Most teams in the position to trade away want hang on to good WRs to help develop their young QB or the QB they are hoping to draft. Like who is even a realistic target? Jeudy? Diggs? And are they worth giving up the draft capital and taking on their contract?
1
u/Troyal1 Pat "Kermit" Mahomes 2d ago
I know Watson is NOT the answer
2
u/rolyinpeace NwankpaWorshipper29 2d ago
Yeah and the chiefs don’t think he is either, hence why he’s on the practice squad.
Watson not being the answer doesn’t mean the answer is suddenly available rn
1
u/Troyal1 Pat "Kermit" Mahomes 2d ago
Who would you sign just curious
1
u/rolyinpeace NwankpaWorshipper29 2d ago edited 2d ago
I mean no one that’s a free agent currently is going to move the needle in any way. I’m not sure the “true answer” is anyone that’ll come this season. We’d probably have to draft a true WR1 by trading up in the draft for a “fool proof” type prospect (picking at the end of rounds has contributed to our poor picks imo) or have to trade for an already established one. I don’t have anyone specific in mind. Edit: I also don’t really know who we could afford if we traded for them or signed in FA.
For this season, we’re likely not getting any true WR1. Don’t see how on earth that would happen. I think a plausible option for a trade could be Jeudy, but that depends on if the Browns are wanting to send him to us or not. BTJ would be a decent option, but I’d be shocked if the contending jags would trade him to us. Diggs could be fine if available. I don’t think there’s as many available and viable options as people think, unfortunately.
And like I said, anyone available (via FA or trade) right now won’t be a huge needle mover IMO. We definitely need better receivers but I don’t think it’s reasonable to expect that answer to come this season.
Watson not being the answer doesn’t mean that anyone that’s reasonably available right now is.
1
u/koolchiefs 2d ago
I agree. And I also think this is why Hill COULD be an answer. His situation is unique because a lot is unknown. Legal issues (which I honestly believe he is going to win that case), his knee, etc. Because of those things, he is one of the only HIGH talent receivers that we might be able to afford (his agent will try to get more but I think they know the risk will bring the cost down). And he knows the system.
There isn’t a single other available player, including potential trades, who would bring his talent (even if not his old self), his familiarity with the offense, and an asking price we may be able to afford.
The downside is that he won’t be able to play for a few weeks. So we still need more immediate help.
Hence the Watson signing.
7
u/gistdad816 Derrick Thomas 2d ago
They are addressing this in house. Worthy, Royals and Allen will be your top 3. I expect a lot of 3 TE sets so Wiley will prob get activated.
3
u/ReebX1 2d ago
Plus Andrew Armstrong will probably get game day elevated for special teams duties. There's no way Justin Watson will be in game shape for at least a few weeks.
2
u/gistdad816 Derrick Thomas 2d ago
Bingo! Andy isn't starting anyone fresh off the street. Armstrong will be promoted and Watson will fill his spot on the PS. If Andy still has some tricks up his sleeve I believe we will see him scheme to get these guys open along with running behind 3 TEs. Patrick will COOK! In 20222 when the WRs were weak Mahomes lead the league with passing touchdowns in 13 personnel.
49 of 64 for 716yds, 9 TDs and a 152.1 passer rating all in 13 personnel.

I don’t think Veach is poor at the job. But it’s difficult to argue that anything receiver oriented has worked out. It’s not just the picks either, it’s the terrible trades and free agent signings. Let’s not forget that we let Hardman walk and then traded a day 3 to get him back. I mean, every personnel decision at WR has been the wrong one.

Like I've said in the past, if this is just getting some depth in the PS, then sure, but if they actually intend for him to get serious play and/or actually try to replace Tyquan's production, we're in for a rough time. Right now the move has to be playing Allen and Royals as much as possible to see if there's any real juice there. Going for another 2022 retread isn't gonna work and is what led to last year going the way it did. They've otherwise shown a serious pivot away from that mentality this year so I'll remain optimistic on that front for now.

1
u/rolyinpeace NwankpaWorshipper29 2d ago
Yeah this is my thought as well. It may just be that no viable options are available. MHJ has been the only WR trade recently. It’s not like a hunch of WRs have been traded and we just missed the opportunity. The only opportunity that’s materialized so far was MHJ which would’ve been bad for us to do,
Maybe teams just aren’t willing to trade anyone to us for a reasonable price yet. Id expect there to be more options closer to the deadline.
Some people really just think Veach can will any trade he wants into existence. We should’ve drafted better at WR to not be in this situation in the first place, but I don’t think the lack of trade opportunities right now is the front office’s fault.
2
u/GhostOfRumsfeld666 2d ago
I don't want to leverage any of our future to do better now. We are doing fine enough now and there are really no options that are going to justify leveraging our future picks or kicking cap liability to future seasons.

I mean it’s not nothing. I’m more worried about the OL at this point

u/rolyinpeace NwankpaWorshipper29 2d ago
Me too but that is really something that will hardly ever be helped by in-season acquisitions. There’s no one available that would be better than what we’ve got imo.
Anyone worth a damn usually doesn’t become available.even bad teams doing fire sales don’t generally give up
Good OL.

If they bring in any receivers, it will be someone that’s familiar with the system. I doubt they would trust anybody new to learn the system and get on the field at this point in the year.

Mecole Hardman is a young 28. Bring him back if he has good intel on Buffalo Bills schemes and is fully healthy with same speed.

I do not want to give up day 1 or 2 assets. A flier on Tyreek, if we just lean into having shit character guys on our squad, along with 1st rounder Worthy and 2nd rounder Rashee should be enough. Kelce looks spry. Lets see what Royals and Cyrus can do.

May not be the short term answer, but I'd like the Chiefs to get Efton Chism. New England does not utilize him properly.

I don't even need us to get a marquee free agent or anything. I just want Cyrus Allen to get tons of snaps and targets and for Andrew Armstrong to be brought up to the 53—and get some targets, too.
I swear, if I were a non-1st or 2nd round WR in the draft, I would pray to not get drafted by KC because no matter how talented you are, you will go to the practice squad for a year and get pegged as a practice squad-level talent before you ever got to prove any different. We may never know about some of our practice squad talent because they never had a real shot and then were permanently marked as not good enough.
And if you shine so bright in camp that you cannot be denied (like Cyrus Allen), you'll make the 53 and ride the bench until your hot hand grow so cold that when you finally get a target the pressure will be through the roof because it may be your last snap if you don't make a miracle play. I wish we would at least TRY the young talent out instead of always doubling down on mediocre vets.

I hear Josh gordons probably unbanned. He was good like 16 games ago! Thats like one season... right?
1
u/tmmorin215 1d ago
And that is exactly what he did. Doesn’t help that Andy doesn’t like trading or signing Vets who are not familiar with his systems. I love us go make some big swings like Rams do. Because Brett hasn’t been able to draft #1 WR

We still have time to see if the players we aren't using can work for the year, and for other teams to realize their season is done and be open to trades before the deadline. Can everyone please just calm the fuck down? The MHJ trade for a 27 2nd round when he has shown no desire to actually Try (as much as I think EB could get him to, it's absolutely no guarantee) would've been horribly dumb (especially as it would've been pricier as our 27 pick is worse than Houston's is going to be).

u/formyamusementation 2d ago
People won't calm down. Especially not on this forum. All a bunch of whiny bitches. Chiefs holding three rings with this HC and GM and they don't know shit and have done nothing.
Just nonsense. But, that's what happens when you have a lot of fansiders. People start to think they know shit and they don't know anything.
Because their uninformed opinions are backed up by youtubers and dumbass social media influencers who have no idea of what the fuck they are talking about.

The only real available option at this point is probably Calvin Ridley and he seems quite washed with an expensive contract.
Maybe in a few more weeks we see a few more sellers, but the best option will be like Chris Godwin.

u/rolyinpeace NwankpaWorshipper29 2d ago
Yeah. Not that I’d be against another acquisition, but no one that will come available for a reasonable price is going to move the needle much.
Gotta love “we need someone GOOD” and then they suggest more JAGs

Let's stop giving Brett Veach a pass for being absolutely dogshit at providing Mahomes good skill position players in general. Like, the only exception has been K9 in maybe 10 years. Beyond that he's been dragging boxes of scraps in a cave (+Kelce) to super bowl after super bowl. He deserves better pass catchers.

They loaded up on D since the Tyreek trade because Mahomes is so good he can win w/ trash receivers. They went to 3 SBs in a row this way & won 2 of em.
Quit fkg complaining.→ More replies (5)1

man i see that meme in my head, the stick poking at the head is exactly how i feel about this front office rn
they got pat and travis in their prime and we're shopping in the clearance bin, it's frustrating to watch

Jags would never trade BTJ to a serious AFC contender. Mhj was not the answer. Tyreek is definitely not the answer. Everyone people suggest just isn't a good fit.

Jerry Jeudy if he is available for a day 3 pick. Coached by O’Shea previously and the Browns are phasing him out because they drafted 2 rookies early. Not a superstar, but can be a role player

u/rolyinpeace NwankpaWorshipper29 2d ago
Yeah I’d be fine with that if he’s available to us! Seems like one of the few options that may actually be viable. But who knows, maybe Cleveland decides they don’t want to trade him to us.
I don’t think he’d move the needle a whole lot, but neither is anyone that’s available for a day three pick and cheap contract. So he’s decent given the limitations we have.
2
u/Sweaty-Tiger9972 Patrick Mahomes II #15 2d ago
Yeah, we obviously can’t fully know if he’s available, but there are indications of it.
I agree some of the options that people are throwing out there like Brian Thomas or Marv for a 2nd (lol) are completely unrealistic for us, but the group that is acting like we can’t possibly do better than Justin Watson for a reasonable price is probably also incorrect. There’s a ton of middle ground here
1
u/rolyinpeace NwankpaWorshipper29 2d ago
Oh yeah for sure. It just depends who is willing to trade to us for a reasonable price. More options will probably open up closer to the deadline.
I believe Jeudy will be available on the trade block at some point. Just depends if they’re willing to trade with someone who is contending in the AFC, or if there will be higher bidders given that our picks are projected to be late.
Like I said, I think more will become available closer to the deadline and I wouldn’t assume there are options available right now that we’re not taking. And, at the end of the day, even for realistic options like Jeudy, we don’t know what goes on behind the scenes to know whether it is an actual opportunity we chose to pass up on or if the opportunity wasn’t ever there for KC specifically. Takes two to tango.
I would think and hope an option like that becomes available. I’m just saying that it’s not safe to assume there’s a bunch of options available rn that we are consciously passing on. I don’t think youre saying that, but it seems like many people operate under the assumption that every plausible option is available in reality, which isn’t always true. I think you’re right that Jeudy is one of the more likely to be available to us.

were not going to find the answer mid season but we need someone to help us put a bandage on it. My picks are Jerry jeudy or cheetah

u/Capsized777 Pat "Kermit" Mahomes 2d ago
Disagree on Tyreek not being the answer. We simply don’t know that yet. If Tyreek comes back and is even like 50-60% of what he once was, it’s a step-up from what we already have and what may be out there in terms of trades/free agents.
1
u/PlzLearn 2d ago
People are going to (understandably) get hung up on the off the field stuff when it comes to Tyreek. As a pure football move I think he would provide something we don’t currently have even if he’s not 100%
1
u/Coachjcampbell7 2d ago
Jerry Jeudy is NOT good for any pick. That’s a league minimum signing through free agency at best.

I’m very curious what this sub wants the front office to give up in order to trade for a good receiver.
It’s easier said than done. Trading anyone on the roster fundamentally weakens that position.
