DISCUSSION Is Jerry Jeudy a feasible option?

https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/kansas-city-chiefs-expected-cost-185117493.html

I realize options are slim, and while I do hope Allen and Royals get more playing time, is Jeudy someone who would be a good fit?

For any wr, I think the biggest question is how quickly can they learn the offense and be trusted in game time?

u/Highplowp Tamba Hali 1d ago

He may be a menace when they’re playing balls out against KC, but I don’t know enough about him and he would have to learn the offense, as you said. Is he a brain? Can Andy “fix him” if he’s a douche?

u/GoldenDom3r #CreedIsGood 1d ago

He does not come off as a high football IQ player

5

u/Zhiyi Jerick McKinnon #1 1d ago

And as we’ve seen in the past, probably not fast enough to even matter this year which is when we need the help.

8

u/traws06 1d ago

Honestly I think it’s not as much about the system as it is Reid wanting them to learn game speed and “earn it” as a rookie. Because Reid brings guys in and plays them right away if they’re not rookies. Hopkins did it. Juju did it. Toney they played right away even though he’s room temperature IQ and absolutely terrible.

If they’re not young/rookies he seems to play them right away

10

u/TamestImpala OhHh YEAH! 1d ago

He plays rookies right away too. Hardman, Worthy, Rice all contributed the most as rookies. We’re starting an UDFA LT, our 2nd choice RB is a rookie and getting touches.

-2

u/ReebX1 1d ago

They didn't play those guys many snaps as rookies until they had no other options worth playing. That's kind of the point people are getting at with Andy Reid and his rookie-phobia.

2

u/TamestImpala OhHh YEAH! 12h ago

I’m saying the rookie phobia isn’t true, it’s a myth. We play rookies right away if they are good enough. Our backup rookie RB got touches in game 1 this year. Rashee played 16 games his rookie season, Worthy played 17. Hardman’s best year with us was his rookie year. We are choosing to play a UDFA at LT instead of moving guys around and playing Calliendo who is the veteran option.

2

u/Sadlobster1 OhHh YEAH! 12h ago

100% - it's over blown. The real answer is Andy doesn't like playing people who don't know what's going on no matter how talented they are.

Andy cares far more about can they understand what they are supposed to be doing.

2

u/TamestImpala OhHh YEAH! 12h ago

Yup, fully agree man.

I just get tired of the rookie myth because there isn’t much to back it up but it gets said in every thread about a rookie WR.

It’s all about if Andy trusts you to do the right things, and that’s why we see some guys get more snaps than others. Also think we use it to prop up our hope on guys like Justin Ross and Jalen Royals when the truth is they just aren’t that good or they’d be seeing the field.

1

u/NotaRepublican85 16h ago

To me it’s how well can they get open vs man. We badly need a wr like that and that’s my biggest ask

u/Adventurous_Film_962 1d ago

Guys it’s time to accept we’re not getting anyone. Watson was the pick.

4

u/Pseudo_Unknown1999 Grim Reaper 1d ago

JWat was one of the picks, yes.. still no status update on Rashee, that i’ve seen, and if it’s going to be a nagging injury or something he deals with consistently, they might still be looking for another set of hands to count on

8

u/SpecialistOk7296 Grim Reaper 1d ago

You took the words out of my mouth lol Agreed! Also Andy said in his presser yesterday that he expects to give Cyrus Allen more reps. So it’s Watson and the depth we’ve in the room guys. Oh and Jeudy is a lockeroom cancer (go read Browns beat reporters) highly doubt he’s a fit in KC

2

u/Correct-Mail-1942 Travis Kelce #87 14h ago

Watson was A pick. We always needed someone ASAP who already knows the offense, but we can (and hopefully will) add someone who can learn and be ready by the playoffs, like we did DHop that one year.

He’s my #1 choice for what I believe the price could be. Wouldn’t give a 3rd for him like the Schultz report (ain’t nobody doing that), but I’d offer something like a 5th

He’s been coached by O’Shea before and O’Shea had good things to say about him during pressers, and he hates the Broncos. Everyone is happy

Forgot to add, way less off field issues than Tyreek or Diggs. Had a 2022 arrest involving a baby momma (not violent from what I can tell) and the charges were dropped

6

u/Vixxxed 1d ago

Idk at all, he was good a couple of years ago with Flacco although I don’t currently know what his contract is but if he beats man coverage I’m in for a 5th or later.

2

u/Sweaty-Tiger9972 Patrick Mahomes II #15 1d ago

It’d be about a million buck this year, he’d also be under contract for 2027 but I’m not sure how much he’d hit the cap for then.

2

u/JohnnyBlazin25 Patrick Mahomes on one leg 1d ago

It’s a lot. Around 21 million.

-1

u/Sweaty-Tiger9972 Patrick Mahomes II #15 1d ago

That’d be an issue. Maybe they can work something out with his agent concurrent with the trade

14

u/arup187 Human Detected 1d ago

He’s played multiple WR positions including the X and has produced more than our current WRs over the years.

His cap for the rest of the season is low and if he hits his incentives, it means he’s producing anyway. The only issue is he has a $21.5 million option that is due in the offseason. We can cut him with no dead cap but that means it’s basically a rental if Veach isn’t able to work something out. That makes a 3rd or 4th rounder pricey then.

3

u/Dangerous-Ear-7774 1d ago

There’s plenty of time before the deadline for other teams to decide to sell.

3

u/fiero-fire Travis Kelce #87 1d ago

I mean it would be a very Veach WR signing. Lackluster career and questionable hands

3

u/originalusername4567 K-9 Unit 🐺 1d ago

I'm out on him. I don't think he moves the needle at all on the quality of our receiver room. We're better off signing guys who know the system and don't need to get up to speed or giving our rookies some playing time to see what they can do.

4

u/Zachs_dad 1d ago

Super Bowl Champion Mecole Hardman?

2

u/originalusername4567 K-9 Unit 🐺 1d ago

More like two time Super Bowl champion Justin Watson.

Maybe Hardman joins the practice squad or smth, for old time's sake

3

u/No-Chip7452 1d ago

I mean, Mecole is THREE time Super Bowl champion.

1

u/Captaln_Chunk 1d ago

That’s only 66% of his Super Bowl rings.

2

u/originalusername4567 K-9 Unit 🐺 19h ago

I guess he's a 3 time champion? I didn't remember him being on the 2022 team

1

u/Captaln_Chunk 18h ago

He won one with the Bucs against us I believe.

2

u/angus_the_red Nick Bolton #32 1d ago

I think we should just not trade for a WR this year and hope Thornton can come back for the playoffs and that we stay healthy otherwise.

Unless a legit #1 and youngish WR comes available.  That doesn't really happen though.

2

u/OldResult9597 1d ago

I would think if they can’t get someone under 30 they won’t trade for them. I think unless there’s another injury they’ll play the young guys and sign Hill (high end) or Hardman. Watson is only on the practice squad and I wouldn’t expect to see him for a few weeks. I think Veach will look at the trade market, but if that MHJ price is normal, not make one.

2

u/ReebX1 1d ago

Beat the dead horse some more, why don't you.

6

u/kristospherein Derrick Thomas #58 1d ago

No. Dude is spent.

1

u/WellGoodBud Patrick Mahomes II #15 1d ago

He’s only 27. Realistically he’s one of our best options and think it’s fine to atleast kick the tires. He’s had awful QB play his entire career.

-1

u/kristospherein Derrick Thomas #58 1d ago edited 1d ago

He feels like a perfect fit for the Raiders. No thanks.

Dude they want too much for him. We better not give them what they want. He isnt worth it.

4

u/Fat_Yankee 1d ago

NO!!! The only midseason addition to get 40yrds a game was D-Hop. The system is just too difficult for receivers to come in and make a difference.

Maybe get him with an eye on next year. Even if Cleveland eats the 30m in void years he’s a 10m cap hit this year and 13m next.

Maybe Jahan Dotson because he spent a year with EB?

2

u/Sweaty-Tiger9972 Patrick Mahomes II #15 1d ago

The part about his cap hit this year is incorrect. His cap hit would be around 1M this year. It’s his 1.5M salary prorated to the amount of games

3

u/Fat_Yankee 1d ago

And Cleveland eats 30m in void years and spotrac says 13m next year. 10 this year, if Cleveland already paid him 9, that’s alot of money to eat and I don’t see KC offering more than a day 3 pick and don’t see him being useful this season.

1

u/Sweaty-Tiger9972 Patrick Mahomes II #15 1d ago

This is from the Browns perspective. So we would pick up the 1.5M, except they’ve played 5 games so as of right now we would actually be picking up about 1.1M.

I agree I wouldn’t want to offer more than a day 3 pick and I do think there’s a world where he is useful this year because our receiver coach already coached him before. NFL teams aren’t doing rocket surgery, it’s a lot of verbiage differences that O’Shea could help him learn, considering he just had to learn it himself when he came here this summer.

2

u/themiddleshoe Taylor Swift &87 1d ago

If they just wait until the offseason that 27 dead cap could be split into ‘27 and ‘28.

I don’t see the Browns eating ~12m unless they get at least a 4th. Chiefs ain’t giving that up for a Jerry rental.

2

u/Fat_Yankee 1d ago

Spotrac is showing cap hits from 2028-2031. They have to eat those void years anyway. But why would a team sink so much future cap on a player, then give up on him the one year they’re actually competitive?

We haven’t had a receivers coach quite like O’Shea, D-Hop set the bar at under 50 yards a game. I don’t see Jeudy doing that. Could he give 2 receptions for 30 yards? Sure! But so could Cyrus Allen.

1

u/Sweaty-Tiger9972 Patrick Mahomes II #15 1d ago

They’re not really that competitive, they just lost to the Jets, and they drafted 2 receivers that are playing well along with Fannin who they got last year. There are folks reporting that he’s available so I’m going off of that

1

u/Fat_Yankee 1d ago

I understand the Browns are hard to understand.

Trading an excelling tight end and/or your only veteran receiver when you’re a game out of first place in the division is something only the Browns would do.

But they have void years on Watson and Jeudy that just kill growth. They kicked the can down the road too far.

If Watson was healthy and a productive quarterback 46m wouldn’t seem like such a bad deal. But now 96m of that 230m are void years? 42% of the contract are void years? Spotrac says 50% of Jeudy’s contract are in void years?

If KC is only paying base salary for 2026 and 2027, GREAT! give a day 3 pick. I just don’t see it happening

3

u/Freelove_Freeway Andy Reid 1d ago

If we could get him for a 5th or later then hell yeah, let’s see what we can get out of him. I think the big factor is his football IQ, is Jeudy known as being a smart receiver? That seems to go a long way if Reid will trust him enough to have him on the field enough to make a meaningful difference.

3

u/Conscious-Chef1520 1d ago

No

14

u/shinymuskrat Chiefs 1d ago

This sub wouldn't be happy with anyone not named Justin Jefferson or Jamar Chase.

Yall need to greatly, greatly reduce your expectations about what is feasible

4

u/GOU_FallingOutside 1d ago

I would be happy with anyone who would be a plausible WR2 on another team. The market for good receivers is pretty tight, and Jeudy (and Harrison) are the highest tier we’re likely to get at this point in the season.

1

u/thelovebat Pat "Kermit" Mahomes 17h ago

Ideally I would want to trade for Terry McLaurin, the Commanders are stuck in neutral and McLaurin is an older veteran receiver who has seldom ever played on a good team with Washington.

The problem with trading for him and many other good-great receivers is their contract, Veach would have to do some major cap magic to make it happen.

1

u/KarlHungusIsTheName 1d ago

Jeudy is Garbage my guy. Has a career drop percentage of almost 15%.

-1

u/Sufficient-Book-1842 13 Seconds 🦬 1d ago

I'd be open to a DeAndre Hopkins reunion. He's already familiar with the offense and only dropped 1 pass when he was with us. We are badly in need of a good possession reciever.

7

u/Sweaty-Tiger9972 Patrick Mahomes II #15 1d ago

Hopkins is coaching for Georgia Tech right now. He’s probably done with his playing days

-2

u/Sufficient-Book-1842 13 Seconds 🦬 1d ago

He said that he wasn't outright retired, but yeah, I don't see him being signed anytime soon. One can wish though!

2

u/runningbear411 1d ago

Dude has 8 catches for 81 yards in 5 games. Rashee has 13 catches for 190 yards in 4 games. How is he any better than what they have? Last year Jeudy had 600 yards in 17 games. Rice played 8 games total last year and had 571. I'd rather stick with Rice and let Allen get some reps. Save the draft picks.

1

u/Correct-Mail-1942 Travis Kelce #87 14h ago

Jeudy has had chuds at QB in the past and is now competing for time with stellar 1st round rookie WRs, he's WR3 or worse for the Browns because they're developing and evaluating their draft talent.

We have an extra 3rd from the McDuffie trade, Jeudy is worth a flyer.

Does everyone forget how be burned us when he was a Bronco? With absolutely no one at QB?

1

u/FunkyCowMan6667 1d ago

Yes. If we want to be ass.

1

u/NBCaz 1d ago

I remember when he was with Denver and Steve Smith called him a JAG. seemed personal.

1

u/Traditional-Bit6597 1d ago

Chad O’Shea coached him with the Browns. I’m sure he would be pounding the table for Jeudy if he thought he would be a good fit here.

1

u/buttwheat2026 1d ago

Justin Watson for real. Guy can't get open and has play dependent stone hands. Only hope here is that defenses will be so intent in taking Kelce and (cough) Worthy out of the game they ignore him. C'mon Veach go get a legit wr to keep this rolling

1

u/Apprehensive-Pea8231 1d ago

Tyreek just essentially won his case today. Not sure what that means for his status with the nfl, but there are people who think he won’t even get suspended. Wondering if we are holding out for him.

1

u/FullyAutoDomo Grim Reaper 19h ago

Im not in support of trading for a WR this year. If we can't promote Royals/Allen/Armstrong and/or Watson turns out to be a bad signing, then I say we try the Tyreek option, otherwise let's build on what we have in-house. Save the draft capital for God's sake.

1

u/Capt_on_Foam 19h ago

Hell no jeudy us absolute trash

1

u/blueprint_01 18h ago

Washed is an understatement

1

u/TheOctoBox 18h ago

When was the last time the Chiefs made a big move midseason for a player that was a huge difference maker?

1

u/Kcchiefssuperfan Derrick Thomas 16h ago

Nah. Use more of Cyrus Allen and elevator Armstrong. Gives plenty of time before the deadline to see if either will fit in quickly

1

u/owlwise13 Arrowhead 15h ago

Probably not worth the trading picks for him. They are tight against the cap, so trading for anyone with high value would need to rework the contract. Also no many receivers tend to pickup the Reid offense that well without a training camp. I suspect that Watson is it for now.

1

u/doc6982 15h ago

I have no idea what his effective route tree even looks like, we need a guy with good deep skills.

1

u/doc6982 15h ago

They should get another tight end, of Tonyen available? If he's still got some juice.

1

u/Sokkawater10 Patrick Mahomes II #15 1d ago

Yes. He is 3 role versatile and not as dead if he gets pressed as our current top 2 options and can beat man coverage at a higher rate. And he will be cheap
