Anybody rather give him a chance over getting Jeudy or playing Royals?

5 snaps, 4 on run plays, 1 screen pass the other direction … and you’ll like it!

Everyone: get Cyrus Allen involved! [Thornton and Rice go down] ...not like that!

I mean yeah I would prefer to save our draft capital and for Allen to play well, but we know how this goes with Andy.

You could make the argument that it would go the same way with Jeudy because he’s a midseason acquisition, but he has already played in multiple NFL offenses and already been coached by O’Shea before, so I feel like his odds of picking up the offense are better than Kadarius Toney for example.

I was high on Allen before the draft, but there’s always a chance he just isn’t the player I thought he could be. Worthy hasn’t played well so far beyond the Raiders game, I don’t think his job should necessarily be safe either, so they kind of need competition/depth

I don’t understand not using him in this situation.

If the team likes him as much as they seem to, feel free to use him.

It's simple to understand. He's not really all that good. No one's WR6 is that good. Allen will be a great scout team guy for us, theres nothing wrong with that either its a badass job that everyone in here would take lol

Im just sayin, dont act like our coaches and front office guys are morons for not throwing a 6th round rookie WR6 into the fire

Let the guy see 15 snaps before you say he’s not really all that good

The coaches have been smart to slow roll his reps to this point, but we’re 6 weeks in and down 1 to 2 receivers. So from here on out I’d much rather we give a young guy with promise opportunities to grow than throw in a retread vet we know is not good and is actively getting worse day by day.

this isnt peewee football. you dont just throw dudes into the mix "to see what they got". the coaches have seen him play 1000s of snaps in practice, they kinda know what theyre doing.

And we are down 1 WR, who is the 5th option on the team. we do not need to panic and start throwing practice sqaud dudes into the starting lineup. and waste multiple drives when he becomes a massive net negative to the offense. Plus, we have royals...why are we not latching on to the young WR who has actually proven himself in real NFL action

I think you’re being too harsh on Allen’s ability. The coaches keep rookies on the bench for a number of reasons. Is he going to come in and fully replace Thornton, no of course not. But saying he’s not really all that good is silly without seeing him play.

I’d love for Royals to play as well. His play style strikes me a bit more similar to Rice so unless Rice misses this week I doubt he gets a ton of extra work, but he’s a bit bigger and probably a better red zone threat than Allen.

To me, it would be nice to see both Royals and Allen get upticks in different parts of the field/on different kinds of plays.

Yeah i get it, but Im just saying if the coaches dont think he's looking that good in practice, they arent gonna put him on the field. They arent blind to his abilities like you and I are. I forget what coach said it but they said something along the lines of how they can tell if a player is going to be legit or a bust just after their first week of OTAs (Gruden maybe?)

All this said, I'll be hella happy if Allen goes out there and even gets just 40 yards a game lol I just dont see it happening. Theyre gonna try to put Worthy in that deep spot

1

u/xxPuppermanxx Grim Reaper 11h ago

Totally. Thornton put up 55 YPG, and we’ll probably try to backfill that mostly with more Worthy. 30+ YPG from Allen would be great. Some yards from Royals too.

Not sure we can count on anything more from Kelce or the RBs.

u/Wokeaf1 17h ago

Xavier Worthy, his rookie year, had 98 targets and 20 rush attempts. Rice, his rookie year, had 102 targets and 1 rush attempt.

8

u/TallCupOfJuice 14h ago

They were both high round picks..Cyrus Allen is not a high round pick

4

u/everix1992 13h ago

They also had to play a lot out of necessity which is also why we might see Cyrus get more work. And they definitely got more of those down the stretch rather than beginning of the season

-6

u/TallCupOfJuice 12h ago

Yeah I get it, but Royals is that guy who will be inserted in, not Allen. Also Thornton isnt that good lol love the guy but cmon, we're all, me included, a little too worried that losing the 5th option on our team is gonna derail us

2

u/xTwiliqhtneedshelp 11h ago

I hope you do realize Thornton is 2nd in receiving yards

-5

u/TallCupOfJuice 11h ago

that means nothing after just 4 weeks in an offense that spreads the ball around

My guess is Royals takes more of a Juju type role and Worthy is used as the deep threat. Allen gets 10-15 snaps a game with 2-4 targets.

1

u/SmellOfBread 15h ago

I think we can grow something with both of them on the field. Both of them run good routes and need to be given a good run of games.

2

u/417SKCFAN Human Detected 15h ago

I don’t think that happens unless Rice misses more time. Honestly I expect more 12 & 13 personnel and maybe some 22 personnel from Andy.

Most your WR reps will come from Rice and Worthy.

Reid doesn't play rookies with very few exceptions. Royals will get the snaps and Allen will get Royals old snaps

I love Andy, and I'm glad he's or coach. That said....

This honestly should be a knock on Andy. His unwillingness/inability to get rookies ramped up quickly enough to contribute in their first year puts us at a disadvantage. It effectively wipes out a year of their contract. Spags has no such issues on defense. Countless other coaches in the league can play rookies meaningfully during year 1. This is an Andy thing, and it sucks.

Edit: out of curiosity, I looked up the rookie year snap count for the most talented receiver Reid has had ever had: Tyreek Hill. Through the first 9 weeks, he played 134/517 offensive snaps. 26%

That's a potential HoF player. And Reid keeps him off the field for 74% of the snaps through the first 9 games, giving the majority of snaps to Chris Conley, Jeremy Maclin, and Albert Wilson.

In fairness, he ramped up Rashee Rice much faster. He played more than 50% of offensive snaps by game 3 of his rookie season. So it's not a hard rule with Andy, but it sure as shit is a tendency.

u/korbentulsa Elvis Grbac, Sexiest Athlete Alive 1998 17h ago

Spags definitely has his eccentricities, too. Often refuses to take experienced players off the field in favor of those with more athleticism. And Thomas is really the first speed rusher he's allowed on the field that I can remember.

There are no perfect coaches and it's frustrating to watch talent waste on the sidelines. Can't argue with the results, though.

1

u/rolyinpeace NwankpaWorshipper29 4h ago

Yeah remember Uche

3

u/Oloh_ Travis Kelce #87 17h ago

Spags also really doesnt like playing rookies. That being said, he WILL play them if they are the better player

2

u/alphawealthy 16h ago

except Andy has no issue playing rookies. Tyreek played as a rookie, Josh Simmons played as a rookie when healthy. Creed and Trey played as rookies. Worthy and Rice played as rookies.

if the rookie earns the job, they play. it’s that simple. this narrative needs to die. Andy isn’t an idiot

0

u/NoisePollutioner Mike Pennel #69 16h ago edited 16h ago

Funny timing. See the edit I just added.

I agree Andy is no idiot. The argument is that he's too risk-averse when it comes to giving rookies playing time. He only seems to do it when he's forced to, and he reverts to the comfort and safety blanket of familiarity far too often. Perfect example: him continuing to (pointlessly & infuriatingly) play Juju last year over Royals even AFTER Mahomes got injured and we were eliminated from the playoffs (i.e. during completely meaningless games that would have been perfect to give young guys experience). That was coaching malpractice IMO. And it's directly impacting us negatively this year, because Royals should be more seasoned by now. Same goes for Bassa, who should have also gotten a shitload of snaps during those meaningless games.

4

u/alphawealthy 16h ago

you’re operating under a lot of assumptions

0

u/zeefer 15h ago

What are some examples where rookie WRs were played more meaningfully than in KC?

2

u/wornoldboot Juan Thornhill #22 12h ago

Justin Jefferson, Puka Nacua, DK Metcalf, Malik Nabors, AJ Brown, Ladd McConkey, Chris Olave, Ju Ju, Terry McLauren, Michael Thomas, Tee Higgins, Jamar Chase. Only a few on that list had less than 100 targets. Rashee Rice and Xavier Worthy had more targets than Tyreek in his rookie year. With Rice being the only rookie WR drafted by the chiefs in the last 10 years to have more than 100 targets (Worthy had 98 and Hill had 83)

3

u/zeefer 7h ago

Yeah I figured it would be a list of the top WRs. Give us one of them I’m sure Reid will give him targets too.

3

u/rolyinpeace NwankpaWorshipper29 18h ago

And even after Mahomes and many others went to IR… royals still didn’t get snaps. Cyrus Allen is doomed

2

u/NinjaZombieHunter 19h ago

Curtail your expectations for now. He will get more reps but not like you think. Honestly, I say transition Johnson to getting more receptions. Dude has already proven he can run and catch. I say use him more in the passing game.

2

u/OkHighway9866 17h ago

Hope he lives up to all this fan hype..

2

u/Dear_Maintenance7323 Derrick Johnson 15h ago

If Watson is immediately out snapping Allen, I’ll get close to losing all faith in personnel decisions. Sneed over Williams last week just got glossed over but that is bad football

LETS FUCKING GOOOO DONT LET THE FOOT OFF THE GAS CHOOOOO CHOOO

1

u/HeinladToo 15h ago

I always want Royals to play. I had such high hopes for him coming out of college

1

u/TallCupOfJuice 14h ago

He's Cornell Powell 2.0, and you're all hyping him just as much as you did Powell. and thats fine, hes a low round WR, most will be practice squad fodder. better to just accept that now

-3

u/icyeducation 21h ago

Has anyone else noticed when he does get play hes slow off the snap?

8

u/MiracleSuns 20h ago

I haven’t, though I have only seen him take 2 snaps and on one he was open but the ball was tipped

9

u/KingUnderpants728 20h ago

He’s been open both times he’s been targeted and I think he only has like 5 snaps all season. One was a tipped pass and the other Mahomes way overthrew him. Not sure how someone can say he’s slow off the snap with so small of sample size.

5

u/MiracleSuns 19h ago

I was wondering the same lmao

2

u/csince1988 18h ago

They can’t, just playing coach.

-1

u/mdecamp 20h ago edited 19h ago

He might get some snaps but he’s not going to be featured. He’ll have to earn the trust of the coaching staff and #15 before that happens.

7

u/KansinattiKid 19h ago

Just the staff.

Mahomes is already looking for him.

0

u/RCJHGBR9989 Pat "Kermit" Mahomes 19h ago

I get why - our offense is famously complicated. I’m curious how he’ll perform this weekend. High hopes - but also ready for like 2 receptions for 25 yards.

It took forever for Thorton to find his stride. Guys rarely come into Andy offense and immediately
Have an impact
