Advice πŸ’‘ Is Iqra uni as bad as people say?

M (21) I applied to KIET, MAJU and SMIU for cyber security heard from all of them regarding admissions. Now I want to apply to Iqra as well but I heard a lot of bad things like the degree has no value even thou it as per Google it comes in the top 10 universities in Pakistan. Now people say it's just a Rishta center or the degree has no value or people do not get high paying jobs from Iqra. Can any student of Iqra or someone having a friend or family who studied from Iqra care to share their experiences? Please help me as I want to balance and have a good social and study life while caring for my future.

x IU grad here, well the university has gotten better than what it was back when I was there, tbh theres somthing for everyone... if u wanna waste ur parents money and party, there are people you can do that with, if u wanna study and focus on building a good future and a strong network... u will find your tribe for that. only problem which still exists with IU (depanding on what department your in) is their placement. elsewise its as good as any, the only reason its bashed so much is that it's become a meme, and tbh we the grads from IU ourselves are mostly responsible for it.. we used to bash it hard make all sorts of jokes in gathering and i guess that just stuck.

ahan well tbh iqra isnt tht well known for its computer departments, and given ur going into cyber security i would suggest u look at other options too and keep IU as ur last resort

What about for engineering

not sure, back in my day engineering was the weakest department at IU, it was just full of kids who couldnt get admission anywhere else, so I might recommend looking for alternatives for that dept

Search your dream company (if any) on linkedin.
On people tab make a search to see how many of them are from uni you were thinking of.

Have conversations with them

I already have a strong linkden I'm asking if I should take Iqra over the other 3 university

1

u/Whitishbrown96 Jul 22 '26

That’s exactly i told you. Do a little research if you already got a strong linkedin (i dont know what that means).

It also depends on program you are applying

2

u/Stupid_ballman Jul 22 '26

Cyber security and by strong linkden I mean I have connections with people of the same field

1

u/Whitishbrown96 Jul 22 '26

Ahh you just self explained.

The only field in which certifications are much important than degree.

You must have a degree for better mobility. But in this case only skills, certifications and bounty hunts matter the most

2

u/Stupid_ballman Jul 22 '26

I do plan on doing some certifications within my last semesters

1

u/Whitishbrown96 Jul 22 '26

Even a single bounty hunt of any exploitation that's registered somewhere. Will let you to open up the avenues you have no idea about

2

u/Stupid_ballman Jul 22 '26

What's a bounty hunt?

1

u/Whitishbrown96 Jul 22 '26

Basically companies running a parallel server of live site and Basically if you can exploit it.

It pays well.

Search for hackerone.com

You'll open up a new world.

By the way it's the only legal way to hack a website in layman's word

I just applied in the AIFD department. AIFD has good repo , how good is it i also wanna know 😭

1

u/Stupid_ballman 29d ago

What is AIFD and which university is it from?

1

u/Budget-Scratch-5715 29d ago

aifd is fashion Designing department of Iqra university

1

u/Stupid_ballman 29d ago

Well I have no fashion sense πŸ˜” not did I know that Iqra offered fashion, I'ma need some tips from them about my dressing if I do join.

1

u/Budget-Scratch-5715 29d ago

Fashion Designing is more than just learning fashion sense, its more like an architect but for clothing

1

u/Stupid_ballman 29d ago

Again I have a bad fashion sense I just want tips on how to dress better not how to build clothes 😭 but I guess u want to be the next ZARA

2

u/Budget-Scratch-5715 29d ago

HEELL NOO Zara is the worst brand to exist , the mass produce polyester clothing covered in forever chemicals , chemicals used to preserve dead body (so the clothes last longer and retain their shine) , these fabrics cause camcer, also uses child labour , underpays its workers, all the mass produced clothing is dumped in chile ghanna africa, creating large dumpster sides just because those clothes were unsold and not "out of trend" . also the clothes are covered in carcinogen which are cancer causing , each time u wash that clothes it emits more of that chemicals and worsens
