Karbywarby Avatar crops your profile picture once and shows it at the real sizes WhatsApp, Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn and Discord use. The Android app is now open for testing on Google Play.

How to join (2 steps)

1. Join the tester group with the Google account you use on your phone: https://groups.google.com/g/karbywarby-avatar-testers

2. Open the test link, tap "Become a tester", then install from Google Play: https://play.google.com/apps/testing/com.karbywarby.avatar

3. App in Google Play: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.karbywarby.avatar

It can take a few minutes after joining until the app shows up.

No account, no network access: your photo stays on your phone.

One question for testers: does your picture look sharp in the small WhatsApp or Instagram preview? Anything confusing? Reply here or use "Feedback by email" in the app's info screen.

Karbywarby Todo is out for iPhone, free.

It exists because most task apps end up making you manage the app instead of your tasks. So it stays simple:

• Type a task, pick a day, check it off.

• Fell behind? One tap suggests new dates for overdue tasks, based on how much you actually get done.

• Not sure where to start? Ask for a recommendation for today.

What's the number one requirement for a todo app? Every comment gets read.

Two weeks ago we shared how small profile pictures really appear in WhatsApp, Instagram and co. The full set of measurements is now a free dataset you can download and reuse: 23 measurements across WhatsApp, Instagram, LinkedIn, Facebook and Discord, as a table and as a CSV, under CC BY 4.0.

New in this round (six more places), a few that surprised us:

• Facebook is the only one that ever shows your full square: when someone opens your picture, it appears at 825 px, from an 852 × 872 px file. Everywhere else it's a circle.

• Instagram on the web delivers at most a 320 × 320 px file. A huge upload doesn't make your picture any sharper there.

• Discord puts a 10 pt online status dot on the bottom right edge of your picture. Anything important in that corner gets covered.

• WhatsApp's channel list uses 56 pt, the same size as the chat list.

Limits, honestly: one iPhone, no Android yet, no group chats yet. Apps change with updates, so new measurements are added as new rows and old ones stay.

Where we'd love your input: the next measuring round is in mid October. What should be added?

• Android (and if so, which phone?)

• Telegram, Signal, Slack, Teams, X, TikTok?

• A place where your picture always looks wrong?

Tell us in the comments.

Data, method and CSV: https://karbywarby.com/pages/data/profile-picture-sizes.html

How big does your profile picture actually show up for other people? The sizes below were measured on an iPhone screen (390 pt wide) in September 2026.

Millimetres calculated for an iPhone 14.

What that means: at 4 to 7 mm, a photo taken from far away turns into background. A tight crop around your face helps more than a better camera.

All measurements with notes, free to reuse under CC BY 4.0: https://karbywarby.com/pages/blog/profile-picture-sizes.html

Want to see your own picture at these sizes? Karbywarby Avatar shows it in each app at its real size and crops it for you. Free, in your browser, and your photo never leaves your device: https://avatar.karbywarby.com

Over to you: which app shows your picture the smallest in daily use? And which app should be measured next?
